This is driving me mad. Be gentle, I'm still learning! :) Took my driver's side door-handle off, originally to fit one of dav16v's new strikers, but found it already had one! While it was off I found the central locking wires to be severely chafed at the point they entered the handle, which would explain why it would randomly lock itself while driving. So, firstly, how can I expose the wires where they attach to the switch? I can't get at the small crosshead screw holding on the black plastic trim around the lock because the tab that moves the striker is in the way. [edit: same prob as this chap but he had no responses...] Secondly, how is the spring on the back of the lock cylinder reassembled? Mine went ping and I can't figure it out...:bonk: Thank you! Stone

Stonejag replied to daves16v's topic in Suppliers Forum
Aha, that's probably it. Cheers for the tip :) It's going back in next week to put my new coilies on and sort out a wheel bearing so I'll get it all sorted at the same time... -
Door handle repair kit..........THEY ARE NOW AVAILABLE

I'll have one for each side, driver's handle has failed again after being on the car less than 5 days! New record? :bonk: Also the window doesn't roll all the way down since it broke - can I assume there's a lump of the old striker in the way? Stone -
Yeah, he had it in the showroom at £4500! It did have a fair few bits that weren't mentioned on the eBay auction though, so I don't think it worked out too badly all in. + straight, and decent paint - few bits have been resprayed but overall good standard of work and with decent colour match + decat exhaust + original cat thrown in + Crystal rear clusters (now returned to stock) + Alpine head unit, external sub+amp in boot + big pile of random spares From my garage trip today, you can add to the niggles in the first post: - exhaust blowing (previously fixed with Peugeot parts?!) - leaky oil cooler - camber and tracking way out - Duff ABS sensor + light ripped out - front tyres split from running them underinflated - sub and amp always on -> flat battery - one dodgy wheel bearing - cabin heater thermostat broken - air intake sensor broken - horn disconnected I reckon it'll have cost me about £3k total by the time it's all sorted as I'd like it so I'm not too unhappy so far. I didn't buy it to be practical, if I had I would have kept the Lupo!

Mine's leaking too - garage bloke said it might have had the wrong grade of oil in it in the past? Stone

Thanks chaps, PM sent to Tim :) I'm also after a non-rattly mount for the ashtray and cig lighter socket (mine's very loose and neither lock into the dash properly) and the plastic gearshift surround for an auto - bit of a long shot on that one I know!

Removed the eyebrow but the front end looks wrong now... Looks like the bonnet wants to sit further forward to cover up the headlights properly, it's gone dark now but is there some adjustment on its mounting bolts? The driver's side is spot on but the passenger side is set back by about 20mm, which makes the plastic top of the headlights stick out...

Just picked the VR6 up from the garage - not too painful an experience for my wallet (this time...!) but it did throw up a fairly hefty list of bits I need. Biggest concern right now is that my temp gauge doesn't work - it flickers a couple of mm from time to time but normally just sits on the lower endstop. The garage bloke replaced the sender in the head to see if that fixed it but it didn't so it looks like the gauge itself is broken :( My MFA works perfectly so it would be gutting if I had to replace the temp/fuel/MFA unit whole...could I swap bits from a working gauge into it, maybe? Also need: A rear ABS sensor - are the non-OEM ones for £15 on the 'bay any cop? an intake manifold temperature sensor 'heater box stat' (think thats for the cabin heater?) ABS warning light - my one has part number 535 919 235BA steering column has pretty excessive (~10mm) play up and down, even when the height adjustment's locked - are they all like this? If not would replacing the top of the column sort it, and are they different for the different engine options? Can you swap ignition barrels between columns if you have the keys? (finally have 4 matching locks so not dead keen on retumbling three of them...) A sunroof motor The plastic tunnel in the passenger footwell that the interior blower plugs into - it's in two bits, top and bottom, (part number on the lower half looks like 192 319 015 / 192 319 052 A but that might be a little off!) Ideally I need both bits but I might have enough clips left to manage with just the bottom one. My boot lock has seized such that I can't get the key in - assuming I can unbolt it from inside the boot trim panel, can I just swap in a new cylinder or do I need a whole new mech? That'll do for now, any and all leads gratefully received! I do have a few spare bits taken off the car (driver's door catch, driver's double window buttons, a full set of clear/chrome rear clusters in pretty good nick, eyebrow spoiler and silver-badged grille both in Blackberry, OE airbox) which I'd happily trade for stuff if anybody wants them. Just let me know! Cheers, Stone

Hello mate, have you got an ABS dashboard light? Also after the plastic tunnel in the passenger footwell that the interior blower plugs into - it's in two bits, top and bottom, part number on the lower section of mine looks like 192 319 015 next to 192 319 052 A...(may not be 100% right!) Cheers, Stone

Late Headlight Switch....New Batch Delivered. Fit All Corrado's.
Stonejag replied to 8vMatt's topic in Forum Group-Buys
Apologies if this is a really stupid question, but did the switch connectors stay the same between old and new switches? My '96 C has an old-style headlight switch whereas I assume it should have a new-style one and it's been replaced...but it only lights up for sidelights and doesn't have the 'find it in the dark' ring lit up. Blown bulb or different pinout? If it'll fit mine I'd love one! My top tip for diffusing LEDs is to file the top of the plastic encapsulation down flat - as long as you don't grind your way down to the visible metal bits in the middle then it still works fine, and it works a lot better than black paint. I'd probably swap the red LED for another colour too but that's just me :) Stone -
Can you get the fan dials off without taking the whole unit out of the dash? Mine seems to be holding half the dash in - it's the only bit that doesn't rattle so I don't want to fiddle with it more than I need to! My fan only worked on 4, I put a new thermal fuse in (right pain of a job - previous owner had smashed the lower half of the duct the fan plugs into and it was held together with cable ties) and now it works on 3 (full speed) and balanced on the detent between 1 and 2 (lower speed). I'm not convinced the fan is the right part as it apparently came out of a Jetta - plug fits on snugly though, maybe the wiring's a bit different? Fingers crossed it just needs the contacts bent a little... Stone

Can't find 1 years insurance for under £1000, help!
Stonejag replied to Pat_McCrotch's topic in Insurance
Admiral did a smidge over £800 for me (unmodified VR6, 26yo male, zero NCB). Adrian Flux wouldn't touch me without no claims - I've only been a named driver for the last five years with Swiftcover, but they wouldn't quote because of the engine size. I thought that was pretty good - once I have one year's NCB I expect it'll come down a lot on the classic insurers though. Stone -
Good stuff, I've seen them on so many VR6s I was worried the bonnet wouldn't fit without it or something :D Once the garage give it back it's gone. Already looks a lot better without the colour-coded grille it came with - got some nice pressed ally plates too, the plastic ones were delaminating badly! Also, were there two types of spoiler mech? My replacement one had the manual twist handle on it but it only twists under power, you can't use it to crank it up and down by hand like my broken one. It was marked West Germany though so I guess it was pretty early... Stone

I've always wanted a Corrado, and now I have one :D Looked at a fair few on eBay - made a bit awkward because my other half only has an auto licence and I ended up preferring them... Ended up going for a 1996 VR6 auto in Blackberry and factory heated leather - first one I've seen in that colour! Obligatory pic: I started off with a fairly long list of niggles: - Spoiler only went up on one side - temperature gauge broken - driver's side door handle totally missing - Sunroof slides open but then takes ten attempts to get it shut - cheap, kerbed alloys, run with flat tyres so long they split the sidewalls - very low, rock hard suspension with dodgy camber setup - truly awful shiny wooden steering wheel - ABS light ripped out to turn it off - cracked windscreen - fan only worked on speed 4, taking it apart to replace the fuse I found the previous owner had smashed up the ducting so it was held in with cable ties... ...along with various spots of rust and the odd paint bubble. Obviously it needed rescuing so I bought it anyway :bonk: The gorgeous VR6 noise plus cone filter induction kit and decat pipe might have had something to do with it! Hopefully it won't need too much TLC to get sorted but it's so much fun to drive it makes up for all the bad points...fingers crossed I can get most of the bits through here though! So yeah, hello Expect all sorts of nooby questions - for a start, can I get rid of the eyebrow spoiler? I'm going to have a dig through the pics thread to find some alloys I like too! Stone
