Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!
biggerbigben replied to biggerbigben's topic in Members Gallery
They are seriously good looking cars for sure! That one looks really nice. I thought about the soft top but decided to go for the GTR in the end. I am building mine myself, yes.. I think it will be a breeze compared to the corrado! lol.. All nice shiny new bits that are all designed to go togeather, unlike the corrado where I had to modify and fabricate everything! -

Would that be an AMG 5.5l supercharged V8 or the 6.3l then ??? Its funny you should say that as we've just taken delivery of a 'black series' CLK63 AMG at work. It might just be missing its engine by the end of the week ;-) I was actually thinking about an LS7 engine (from a C7 vette) with a slight tune to about 565/570bhp NA ;-) :D But they are still very expensive at the moment as a crate engine. Alternatively there's always the supercharged 720 or 800 small block chevy ;-) -

Hi chap. I have got an engine in mind but whether I will be able to afford it is a different question all togeather ;-) I went in the factory's 350bhp demo and thought it was very impressive, but its not going to harm having a little bit extra ;-) Tell your mate to finish his website ;-) -

Well... what can I say..?? The Corrado has 95% sold, house buying is on hold and the result of a planned visit to the Ultima factory today ended up with me taking on a new project! An order has been placed and deposit left for a rather nice shiny space framed chassis designed for the legend known as the Ultima GTR... I bring you 'Project Swift' :D ........... (I now have to wait 16 weeks before I get the first parts :( but fear not, it will give me time to re-vamp the website - http://www.coupehaus.co.uk ) ........... -

I'v already done the swap and sold the car  I swapped to haldex because its stronger, more capable, newer, easier to control the 4wd and its 6spd. Downside is its expensive to do. It doesn't matter how good you are with a welder or how well you do collecting cheap parts - syncro to haldex will cost you a good £2k ! I bought a rear diff for £50 and a 6spd gearbox for £110.. it still cost me another £1800 to do! Driveshafts are £200 a pop each and you need 4 off them! You have a controller to think about, mounts to make, prop to shorten, CV's to buy, prop dohnuts to replace etc etc... Hope I haven't put you off - its well worth it! Ben -

Its cheaper to buy a mainstream car like a westfield or dax ready built, but if you enjoy the build then yes I'd reccomend it. I've built 2 now, the dax was infinitley more complicated than the westfield XI but both were very rewarding and satisfying to see on the road. Only problem is they are never finished and there is always something to upgrade. I'd reccomend going for a quality kit though, some of the locosts are a bit ropey, where as Dax, Westfield, Fisher (fury) are pretty good. Thanks mate.. will keep that all in consideration! I am going to a well known kit car factory on monday to have a look around, will let you know how i get on. :)

Embarrasingly enough I was on my way to a high performance driver training day, probably the reason I wasn't driving it like I stole it. hehe.. oh well mate - glad your ok. I'm sure you'll get it fixed in no time at all. :) I'm actually thinking of building a kit car myself now the corrado is almost gone. (just thought I'd squeeze it in before I had to buy a house.. :D ) Would you recommend it? Ben

Sorry to hear this mate. But what the hell are you doing driving that sort of car in this temp ? .. Brave sole.. Hope you get it fixed chap. Ben Ben

Don't be mate - just think 'haldex' ;-) then give me a shout :)  LOL - This is torture! I will just have to make do with your engine mounts :( Just like to say thanks again for all your help, advice and parts . Good luck with everything, and hopefully see you soon in another VW guise. Thank you mate - thats very kind of you! I'll still be around to offer advice etc. I will be taking a break from the VW scene for a while although I shall be returning to Worthersee next year for a 3rd time! Ben Sukh -

Thanks guys... The house buying is a while off yet. I need to save first, which will give me the chance to do something else first ;-) Anyway, most of the parts are listed in the 'Parts for Sale' section now! :) Ben -
