Thanks kip, so happy with how it is all coming together! Fingers crossed it wont be long before she is on the road! The fan controller seems to be a frreat bit of kit! Gets rid of all that wiring! I got it from demontweeks ebay store http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301358361825 You can set the temp for the first fan, then the second kivks in a few degrees more...i havnt run the engine up to temp just yet, but have tested the fans using my soldering iron on the temp probe. The first fan came on at 42 degrees, then the second at 45, i will set it to about 80 when shes running, and they turned off at 35. Theycshould also do the overrun when the car is off but again i will have to test this soon when i run up to temp! Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

It aint pretty, and certainly only a short term solution but i have managed to seal up the leak - thankfully! My in line filler cap eventually turned up yesterday but has been damaged in transit so wont work, only ordered it on may 30th!!! So i kind of ran out of things i could ve doing so i had a quick clean.. . Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

Started putting some interior back in today. I have found a bit of a problem though, there is some oil leaking from around the chain housing. Going to take a few bits off tomorrow to get a better look at it, fingers crossed its nothing major! Each time i start her up, a new puddle appears on my gearbox with a trail from around the chain housing area. Will post my findings up here and hopefully someone can help me! Soooo more progress! Front end is back on! Still cant choose between the badged grill and the badgless...what do people think? I have bought my waterless coolant and flush, just waiting for the inline filler cap to arrive and that can go in so i can run up to temp. Need to get some flanges made up so the downpipe and exhaust can be made and fitted then i think thats most of the big things done...just interior to sort out properly and put back together when she runs nicely. She sits quite well too Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

All the vac lines are now sorted. Also got the fuel lines sorted, had swap out the in line fuel filter and the new filter has a built in return so i have removed the old return line and trimmed it to go to the filter instead of the engine. Maybe got a little carried away too so i had a test fit of the new radiator and then mounted the fans too it too. Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

Cheers, swapping out the gearbox engine mount so might be able to do it then. Just where that little box goes too. I have put it on the front and dont know what to do with the lines. Each valve has 2 holes, the bottom hole goes to a pipe on the box and then out somewhere, the top hole has a short pipe then a t junction with nothing. The guy i bought it off really hasnt helped by snipping the pipes and not send the whole the whole thing to me... Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

So a little bit more done, the front mount is now in place, ended up modding the front mount so the original oil cooler could be used, engine sits pretty nice now. Small problem with the driveshafts, forgot to move them into place when the engine went in so now need to remove them at the hub and slide them in to fit them. Finished off all of the lighting wiring, got it all wrapped up nicely in loom tape. Next is to start running the engine looms into the bay and sort out the vac system for the engine which no matter how many people help i am stuck with it all! Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

Going to swear now! Radiator plastic/elbow.
southerner88 replied to Rich the Chef's topic in Engine Bay
happened on my VR, I gasket sealed the metal fixing back into the plastic surround and clamped it until it dried, then gasket sealed the flange onto the radiator and screwed it as tight as I dared. The gasket seal kept it water tight and it didn't leak but looked awful! for the R32 build I purchased a new all aluminium radiator with the flange bit built in so hopefully this wont happen again! best of luck with the fix dude -
More progress! We now have all (most) electrics working..lights, fogs, indicators, horn, clocks etc etc, only things not working at the minute are the spoiler and electric windows, but will sort those out when she is running! Getting wayyy to excited for this to be done now! And have just left these in a cocktail of harmful and corrosive liquids in an an attempt to get some of the rust off! Will update you all in the morning! Sent from my LG-D856 using Tapatalk

So now it has finally stopped hailing at me, I thought it best to make a start on the wiring side things. Cut a hole in the bulkhead to run the looms from the passenger side as have now decided to run all the looms in one big bundle through the bay instead of down the chassis legs. So today's task was basically to try and get all the looms back into the car. All the main connectors are back into the fusebox, hopefully in the right place, and the looms run along the heater matrix and out of my new hole (just under where the ABS pump used to be). The battery cable is run from the boot through to the bay too. I need to extend the old lighting loom as it now runs down the other side of the bay and isn't long enough and then hook everything up with a battery and test it all still works. Planning to test all electrics on the car before moving any further with the build. IF, everything works fine, then its engine in time, if not, lots more coffee and head scratching! P.S. I forgot just how much I hate wiring looms and Corrado fusebox's

also just so you know, Russ (20vtvw on here) does engine conversions. He has done loads of them! currently building himself a VRT and helping me with my R32 build, well worth giving a shout if your thinking of going down the conversion route... http://the-corrado.net/member.php?8050-20vtvw

I think a common swap from a 1.8 is usually for the 1.8 20vT engine, (mk4 Golf GTi etc)
