chubbybrown 0 Posted November 14, 2004 WHats the shipping going to be to get the car to Oz ? and did they have corrados there ? cheers for replies
carpoid 0 Posted November 14, 2004 Shipping costs are gonna be about £1100, but i can fill the car with stuff at no extra charge. The Corrado was never sold in oz, but one forum member has a 16v G60 4WD home build out there. What is the going rate for a respray? £2000??
A20 LEE 0 Posted November 14, 2004 What is the going rate for a respray? £2000?? for a poor to average job.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted November 14, 2004 Oh give it a rest. Not every one wants show standard paint. £2000 is plenty adequate good quality spray of the same colour. Carpoid, try Rick Kerry at Ipswich Accident Repair Centre. They're very good and do most of Ferrari UK's paintwork aswell as VAG and BMW etc.... They use Standox or Glasurit paint which is good stuff. K
Bora Bora 0 Posted November 14, 2004 Gotta agree.£2000 is more than enough to get a good job done.
A20 LEE 0 Posted November 14, 2004 Sorry, just speaking from experience and knowing a few decent painters and what they charge.

theRuler 0 Posted November 15, 2004 my mate works at a bodyshop that repairs bmw's and mercs. he said allow a grand for a good respray (unless you want lots of bodywork doing too) someone charging you 2000 is just lining their pockets. and taking the piiiss. Guest Posted November 15, 2004 theRuler, wheres ur mate... my C has gone into shop today... get sun roof resprayed £150 ek but there works good
chrishill 0 Posted November 15, 2004 my respray cost me £700 and i got loads of dents taken out too, its not the best job in the world, you can see some spray lines in stong sunlight, but generally it looks spot on. i got quoted anywhere between £1500 and £500, but decided to go with the guy who had a newish jag parked outside waiting for work and as proof of the quality of his work he showed me his newly sprayed escort RST which looked spotless. my advice is to see their work before you part with the cash, just because they're a bit cheaper doesnt mean they're crap, they might just have lower overheads! if you look in my member gallery you can see the work i got done for the price! click the 'take a look' link in my sig. theRuler 0 Posted November 15, 2004 it's richard wrights bodyshop in stafford. should be on http://www.yell.co.uk i was having this very conversation with him the other night, he was saying about some guy who runs a garage brings cars in for a respray (which is basically a trim off, prep, mask, spray, rebuild) and charges about 1800 quid. he was saying thats how come these little businesses seem to provide the owners with a good income. obviously, they have their overheads to pay for, but that aint the consumer's fault!! anyways me mate (who is the stripper - of cars :D ) says that a 1000 is the ballpark figure for your average hatch / small saloon. and that much still provides the body shop owner with a healthy profit. paying 150 quid for your sunroof is not too bad, but it's gonna be shiiit hot quality no doubt?!?!?! and for your metallic blue corrado, your probably looking at 25 quid for paint (and that'd be a 1/4 litre of TOP quality paint. more like 8 quid for cheap) and some laquer, that you just buy in bulk and most body shops would have it on tap. i've sprayed a few cars in the past, and sprayed loads of wings and bonnets etc. my brother taught me, he sprayed powerboats for 12 years (thats what my dad used to make). theRuler 0 Posted November 15, 2004 just because they're a bit cheaper doesnt mean they're crap, they might just have lower overheads! bang on. i'd charge people 300 quid to respray, say a fiesta or metro. it'd take me and me mate a whole day to do, knocking out dents and stuff, but we'd both get a 100 quid apiece for what was on the large part enjoyable to do. we didnt have to pay for overheads though. usually the higher the cost, the higher the "overheads". but when the overheads are the business owner's hot car and big house, it's not really fair. there are obviously exceptions to this, where paint is expensive or special in some sort of way, or particular effects are being done. always check out the actual cost of the materials. if you are taking your car to a local bodyshop, try the local paintshop and see the different prices for different grades of paint. just so you know where your money is going. a good sprayer needs to be paid for too. but you could pay him 30 quid an hour, and he'd have a prepped car sprayed in an afternoon, or less. Guest Posted November 15, 2004 paying 150 quid for your sunroof is not too bad, but it's gonna be shiiit hot quality no doubt?!?!?!. I hope! I have seen the guys work before looked good! I hope they get the colour match, worried i go back and it will be a completely different blue lol
theRuler 0 Posted November 15, 2004 metallic blue is a sum'bitch to match. if they get a spot on match, then thats what you are paying for. you can get the colour spot on, but use a different shade primer and its out. but i presume they are doing it on the car, and they will hopefully mop the roof too so it all blends in. A20 LEE 0 Posted November 15, 2004 think of it this way, if a bodyshop quotes 2k. If they charge the going rate of £37 per hour that allows for about 50 hours to do a complete car, thats with no paint, no window rubbers and they'll skimp on the masking. As for Kev's comment about show quaity paint. Theres no such thing in my book, theres either a good paint job or not.
