maff 10 Posted December 5, 2004 Had a bit of a play with one of these the other day on way down to south london, we both come out of a roundabou onto a dual carriageway, me behind him and he goes for it, so do i and there was nothing in it up to top of 3rd gear im starting to reel him in and forth definatly gaining, reckon i could of inched passed had the road been longer, i was two up and full tank he was on his own, i thought the old corrado did quite well! :D
chrishill 0 Posted December 5, 2004 thats impressive! i bet it gave him a bit of a shock  just goes to show the C can hold its own against the young guns
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 5, 2004 Good going, those Focuses are reputed to be damn quick..... I've said it before and I'll say it again - get two cars with around 200 brake and there is nothing in it. To pull away convincingly, like a car length every 5-10mph, you need 100 bhp more. Wasting something from a standing start is easy....beating something easily at speed takes a lot of grunt.

On. a Rubbish. Dump! just cos its the RS it is still a ford focus at the end of the day! usual Zetec engine with a turbo on it too so not at hard nailed as the traditional RS's with Cossie engines! fragile flaw springs to mind?
Jim 2 Posted December 5, 2004 I dont really think Fords deserve to be the butt of the jokes any more.. they do make some really nice cars these days.. Focus RS is definately one that I wouldn't say no to!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 5, 2004 I agree Jim, the Zetec units are very good. Drive a Mondeo ST220 and you'll see what I mean....a great all rounder. The Noble has a Duratec under the boot lid and is fractionally slower than a 996 turbo 4x4 point-to-point! Ford have thankfully shaken off their Escort and Sierra image now, and they were truly ghastly cars.

vr6storm 0 Posted December 5, 2004 Ford have thankfully shaken off their Escort and Sierra image now, and they were truly ghastly cars. well tbh Kev m8..........the "original" Sierra RS Cosworth and Escort RS Cosworth still float my boat
Jim 2 Posted December 5, 2004 Yeah - they are truely great cars, but I personally wasn't referring to those. More the period after that when things got a bit ropey for quite a few years before cars like the Focus came out and saved their bacon and reputation. And Kev - rather partial to the Mondeo ST220 as well :)
sambo 0 Posted December 5, 2004 Just like most of you lot on this forum i hate fords and its drivers, but deffinitely wouldnt say no to focus rs! Its a blinding car, remember when jeremy clarkson tested one, he disclosed that ford was producing these cars at a loss of around £4k! Still cheap advertising tho
joebloggsVR69 0 Posted December 5, 2004 Hmm ST220... I had some baseball-cap-wearing chav right up my arse a couple of weeks ago.. He certainly couldnt keep up with the VR6, but whenever we stopped at a roundabout he'd try to make a point of it by getting within inches of my bumper  He eventually had enough of seeing my badge and decided to overtake me and the car in front, narrowly avoiding an oncoming car :silly:

goodridge 0 Posted December 5, 2004 Focus RS:- had one traded in at work not so long ago for a Golf V6 4Motion! Oh and how many other cars do you know that are starting to rust after 5000 miles???? This one was!
corradovr6sc 0 Posted December 5, 2004 I've raced one in my s/c vr and they are quite quick, probably slighty quicker than a standard vr but not enough difference in performance to really leave the vr trailing behind.
samm_cvr6 0 Posted December 5, 2004 The RS seems to be a bit quicker(see figures below), nice car but the money is better spent on a nice Cupra R for 15k, rather than a nice RS for 18+k. 1992 Year 2002 1240 kg Kerb Weight 1278 kg V-6 Type S-4 12 valves total Valves 16 valves total 2 valves per cylinder Cylinders 4 valves per cylinder Normal Aspiration Turbo 2861 cc Displacement 1988 cc 187 BHP 212 181 Torque (ft/lb) 229 150.81 Power to Weight (bhp/ton) 165.88 0-50mph 6.40s 0-60mph 6.30s 17.70s 0-100mph 16.40s 15.10s 1/4 Mile 14.80s 93mph Terminal Speed 98mph 27.50s Kilometre 26.20s 145 Top Speed (mph) 144 FWD Drive FWD

Would be interested to see how it might have gone round the twisties! I wouldn't expect it to be hanging around then.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 6, 2004 I thought the Duratecs were the V6s? Could be wrong though...... Yeah Focuses do handle well. Of all the rental cars out there, that is the most entertaining to thrape around 8) I've managed to make my VR as chuckable as a Crocus now with some choice geometry tweaking
samm_cvr6 0 Posted December 6, 2004 not tto keen on that LSD intefeering, I've heard there's a lot of torque steer and can be a bit of a nhandful at times to keep in a straight line! definitley a drivers car that RS, just wish it had a bit less technology and was a bit hardcore. I read somewhere, can't remember about all the wires and if you put all the wires on the RS end to end it would be something like a mile long! yea, the C VR6 may have it in top gear but I wouldnt' fancy racing one of these things off the lights thats for sure.Especially as there are probably quite a few kicking about now with that 285bhp upgrade!!!!
