vick 0 Posted December 31, 2008 Bloody hell Riley ! That will be a bloody fun car to drive with the Nitrous !!! Can the bottom end handle 300 + bhp tho ? Let us know how she goes with the laughing gas !
Riley 0 Posted January 4, 2009 I reckon it 'should' be fine mate, hopefully anyway  Its when nitrous is 'banged in' with no subtle rise that things mainly go wrong. It should end up t least 350 brake after the other new bits planned. 8) Reyt, ive started doing other stuff as per usual  So i need to keep track. Need to sort nitrous jets/controller/bottle and mount bottle. Need to sort a boss for the new ally pipe which will house the nitrous fogger. Need to rebuild front suspension. Rebuild rear suspension. Paint mk1 golf number plate holder. Fix new black mesh to bumper. Fit nitrous solenoid brackets. Remove exhaust manifold and system. Service with oil/filter/air filter/fuel filter/breather gasket/air screw/lambda etc etc. New alloy pipe which needs a boss welding on, so i can drill/tap for the nitrous nozzle. Front bumper removed again! Bye bye to the perfectly legal number plate  If i ever do anything as silly again, i want a b0llocking off someone! New black mesh to go in its place. Mk1 golf number plate holder requiring slight 'tweaking' Holes drilled in bumper vents, for bolting up the mk1 golf plate holder. Test fitted, ive gone for a swept back mounting. Then sand blasted it in the chaps unit next door ready for painting. And thats where im up to. Neil.
Riley 0 Posted January 15, 2009 I wish id have left it now tbh...Having a nightmare with the front bumper/crap painters. :censored: Still waiting on the new coilover spring collars :( amongst other bits... Got a feeling it ain't gonna be ready for vag 2009, just not enough time man.And im really p|ssed off with the bumper, the mot ran out too. Just back from the unit having done this, bit of a rush job tbh. 4" neoprene/copper wound pipe. Created a hole in a spare air box, with a bit of platic welding (melting) And drilled a hole/inserted a grommet to sit the fuel tank breather pipe in there too. I drilled the brace for the air filter element, and tie wrapped the original outside/mfa temp sensor onto it. So the mfa will now show the temperature in the air box. Where the cold air feed/neoprene pipe comes through the carbon cannister hole from the air box (carbon can was removed long ago) Where the outside temp sensor used to sit, in the grill in the front bumper. This is where the cold air feed/neoprene pipe will feed cold air from. When i manage to cut it out.
Neil VR6 0 Posted January 15, 2009 Are you running a wet or dry kit? Will you also retard the timing slightly?
Riley 0 Posted January 16, 2009 Its a wet kit Neil. :) The timing is currently at 6deg btdc, but ive run it at 8 with no probs so ill leave it at 6 for now with small jets and see how it goes. 8) Just got back from the unit :cuckoo: Couple more of the air box modifications... Sorted a propper plug for the cossie intercooler, i didn't want it welded up as it may come in handy some time. The pipe now with the boss welded on. Tapped it, m8x1.0mm and filed down the boss. Fitted/loctited the nitrous fogger. How it will roughly sit.
CTWG60 0 Posted January 17, 2009 Nice workmanship! Should be interesting. Did you ever fit that G-Werks exhaust manifold that you bought IIRC?
Riley 0 Posted January 17, 2009 Cheers mate, the manifolds hopefully going on very soon :D Along with a new system, wideband kit 8) and some other bits, then mapping :D I want to see what the new power figure is before i run the nitrous really. 206 to beat!
CTWG60 0 Posted January 17, 2009 I've hit 216bhp with my 2ltr bottom end and schrick cam. Need to port the head really to improve the top end power anymore. :D http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3866413&page=
Riley 0 Posted January 18, 2009 Good going mate 8) Im not doing too bad i don't think? considering its only got the basic mods really? Always want more though eh  Just got back from the unit again... Fitted the brackets i made to hold the nitrous/fuel solenoids, then fitted the actual solenoids and piped the intake side of things back up. Still need to wire up the solenoids/full throttle activation switch and trigger switch, im gonna wire it all up then use the old OE loom tape again. Also need to take a fuel feed from the original after run pressure switch on the fuel rail, the fuel solenoid sits perfectly inline for it as per old pic below. I could simply take the pipe off the switch/fuel rail and stick it on the solenoid, or put a T piece in there. Also ran the nitrous line through the bulk head into the car ready to route it to a bottle when i sort one. All seems to be running sweet, and the g-lader still whirrs like a b|atch :D Im still not very happy with the original plastic c/o pot pipe...But it does the trick for now. How it currently looks, its absolutely filthy man, will just be happy to get it back on the road so i can clean it all up again!
Riley 0 Posted January 18, 2009 Another bit done on the Rado... Ran the nitrous line through into the rear, its sat in the middle of the rear bench under the arm rest for now. Made up a bracket and started on the throttle body activation/microswitch. I got the white one with the kit, but gonna see about using the black one (from a sunbed) as it just looks better. The standard looking throttle cable mount, where ive decided to bolt the microswitch bracket. Mounted. The nitrous will kick in at full throttle only...and only when turned on via a switch in the car (need to sort that yet) And here it is at full throttle.Need to tidy it up/adjust it/chop the screws etc yet. Neil.
Riley 0 Posted January 19, 2009 So here is the bracket i made up. Notice the crappy looking original bolts holding the throttle cable guide. Painted the bracket. Cut down two Red anodised allen bolts and mounted the microswitch onto the bracket. And voila!
Phil K 0 Posted January 19, 2009 Looks like some quality engineering there fella 8)
Riley 0 Posted January 20, 2009 Oh i dunno mate, just random hammering, sawing, filing, filling, drilling, tapping, painting etc  Cheers Phil :D
junkie 0 Posted January 20, 2009 Far too much time on your hands with all the pics and captions.
Riley 0 Posted January 20, 2009 I wish mate! Every spare minute of my life after work is going into the corrado and editing pics at this time of night  Just got back from the unit again! Brand new 3.5bar fuel pressure regulator. New vac line, should be 100mm long. More bits tommorow hopefully. Neil.
Super-G 0 Posted January 21, 2009 Your making good progress mate. Those anadised bolts take me back to my cycling days, were ever gram counted :cuckoo: They do look good, until you have to undo them a few times. Do you not find 100mm's a little too short for the vac pipe? Mine has to be 105mm, otherwise it's too tight.
Riley 0 Posted January 21, 2009 Yeah i've found it too short in the past too mate  But i raise it up on the fpr now as there is plenty of room while still being a good fit. Keeps the 100mm pipe then, im funny like that  Dosn't really show it in the pic. Neil.

Riley 0 Posted January 28, 2009 Brand new Ford red tops - 0280 150 945 312cc @ 3bar and 14.5ohms.
Riley 0 Posted January 30, 2009 Got some new hose clips for the intercooler hoses. All are new now and don't cut into the pipework. While fitting the red tops and 3.5bar fpr i covered the loom that runs across to the isv/over run switch and fuel pressure switch in oem loom tape. It fired up no problem, and i just had to get a vid of the noise inside the cold air feed i made, sounds mental [LOL] Neil.
