UK2004 0 Posted June 10, 2005 My bro had Corrado in the 90's and I am now considering one, his was a back VR6 with black leather interior and front heated seats, even though I got squashed in the back it was a cracking car. I am 21 live in north london, have been name driver on dads car for three years without any accidents and no points on license. If I have to I will value the car at 2.5k or 3k and get third part fire and theft insurance, do you think one fo the specialists would insure me fully comp for a reasonable sum, am expecting to pay 1500 realistically for insurance. Also will need an auto vr6, are they easy to find in good condition? Cheers.
VR6 0 Posted June 10, 2005 You will be unlikely to find an insurer that will let you take TPFT cover. Not impossible to insure a VR at 21. I insured mine on my 21st birthday although I had my own NCB at that point.
UK2004 0 Posted June 10, 2005 Ahh that's annoying how com they dont allow TPFT? Living in London I'm a bit worried about getting fully comp, so much car theft here!
VR6 0 Posted June 10, 2005 Because it is a group 18 car and the value will usually be above £3k so they insist on fully comp as standard.
UK2004 0 Posted June 10, 2005 I see, thanks for that.
Stan 24v 0 Posted June 10, 2005 heres an auto VR6 mate: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 95107&rd=1 Its from someone on here too.
dr_mat 0 Posted June 10, 2005 I wouldn't have thought the insurance companies gave a monkey's about whether you pay the extra for fully comp vs. TPFT. After all, it's your risk if you're only TPFT. That said, I doubt there will be a massive difference (%age wise) between TP and FC, the bulk of the liability for a £4k car insurance policy is the legal requirement Third Party cover, and second in line is the risk of theft. I would expect you to be able to get insurance for around £1500 (even without your own insurance history), but you might have to accept a ludicrous excess ... It might be better, however, to get something cheaper for 12 months to at least build up your own policy history. In the long run it'll save you a fortune (assuming you don't wrap it round a tree...).
VR6 0 Posted June 10, 2005 Mat - A few companies I spoke to would not insure me on the VR unless it was fully comp. Not that I was asking for any other cover, but they didn't give me the choice.
dr_mat 0 Posted June 10, 2005 Weird, can't think of a reason why ...
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted June 10, 2005 'Cos all insurance companies are money-grabbing bastids?
blackcat 0 Posted June 11, 2005 I've just changed my TPFT insurance from my 16v to a VR6 and my insurance didn't say I had to go fully comp, I chose to though. However, I'm 24 and have nearly 6 years ncb, oh and female which always helps when it comes to insurance
Walesy 0 Posted June 11, 2005 ahhh..that might be it Andi, I am 21 live in north london, have been name driver on dads car for three years without any accidents and no points on license. unfortunatly that doesnt count for sh1t dude....i was a taxi driver for 7 years on a fleet policy..i was doing around 50k a year for 7 years with no accidents/claims and i still havent got any NCB....its stupid but thats the way it is!.... at the ripe old age of 25 i was paying 1200 to insure an 8v raddo!. UK2004 0 Posted June 11, 2005 Cheers blackcat thinnk I'll go with the TPFT f it saves a lot of cash.
dr_mat 0 Posted June 11, 2005 They will often take your "2nd driver" or "company car" insurance record into account these days, but they certainly won't give it automatically.
Stan 24v 0 Posted June 11, 2005 Check out elepahnt and admiral websites for quotes. You can do it all yourself, and will get some idea. Also, put your MUM down as a named driver!! even if she doesnt drive it, the fact she is on there will drop the insurance. seriously!!!
VR6 0 Posted June 11, 2005 The fact that she is on there may drop the insurance....
Stan 24v 0 Posted June 11, 2005 Well every company I have ever tried dropped it for me, so its worth a go. Besides on their websites, you can enter the details without her on it, then again with her on it, see if there is a difference. Also VR6OC have a deal for cheap insurance: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum ... .php?49327
Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted June 11, 2005 Brentacre will offer you a discount if you mention THE Corrado Forum too... 01792 650933 If he's available, ask for John.

Andi 2,147,483,647 Posted June 11, 2005 Chris Knott have always been beaten when I've been getting quotes, but always worth a try :)
Dan_Storm 0 Posted June 11, 2005 I was in a similar position to you when I bought my C. 21, with 4 years of driving, I was a named driver under my Mum previously so I had no no-claims bonus. I also had a company car at the time. I had/have not had any accidents/convictions. I was v.pleased with Elephant. I paid £1080 for their 10 month bonus Accelerator (Gives you 1 years no-claims after 10 months - which some insurance companies might not accept!). I've not got a 12 month policy with them for just over £800 fully comp. I have looked around at other insurance and they are a lot more expensive than Elephant for me. The other quotes were in the £1500+ range.
JimSTORM 0 Posted June 11, 2005 im 20 and have a 16v and pay £950 with adrian flux and and upgrading to a vr6 when i can find one, the only want an extra £90 for it on tpft so im sure other insurance companies will do it.
blackcat 0 Posted June 12, 2005 Chris Knott have always been beaten when I've been getting quotes, but always worth a try :) Chris Knott were the cheapest for me on the valver but then again I didn't try Brentacre, will definately be ringing them when renewal time comes round
samm_cvr6 0 Posted June 12, 2005 I got the vr insured for £800 tpft at 24 with 2 yrs ncb with Adrian flux. Some companies do insist on tpft/fully comp and will not charge much more than tpo. A friend of mine is a insurance broker and has guaranteed he will beat any deal I get next time so will post when it happens for you guys too. Anyone got the link to that thread that was put up a few months back with the best post codes for insurance? I'm going to buy my little bro who is 17 soon a Seicento for about £800, insurance group one so should get a pretty good deal.
