Heater Fan speed 1 & 3 not working!

Recommended Posts

Hopefully this is simple to fix. :?

My heater fan works fine on settings 2 and 4, but 1 seems to do nothing at all and 3 blows very gently! They are the rotary style controls, its a March '94 VR6.

Does anyone know why this might be?

First thing I would do is remove the rectangular surround for all 3 knobs. Give the contacts on the speed control a good clean up.

Mine only worked on number 4, and this solved it.

Right O. I'll give it a shot this weekend when its not bloody dark!

Although, its not intermittent at all which I thought it would be if it were a dodgy connection.

As speed 2 works fine does this mean that its not the thermal fuse?

Hmm, i've got this problem but 4 works and none of the others do (same as Phil). Just been out and given all the contacts a good clean and bent the copper in a bit - still no joy. Contact is definately being made properly but no blow except on 4.

...Any Ideas?

triggermyson your problem is the same as what i have had.

its all down to a little resistor type thing (dont know the correct name)

in your fan which sits under your passenger side dash shelf.all you need to do is take the fan out ,its really easy pop it apart and solder in a new resistor.its happened on mine a couple of times over the years.there is a thread telling you all this somewhere im sure.

if you like ive got a spare one if you pm me your address ill send you one in the post mate.

where can i get a tf?

Got my thermal fuse from here:

http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch ... F01030&N=0

I couldn't log onto the Maplin site and I use this company quite frequently.

I have 4 left, so if you want one drop me an email, £2 each.

(To cover my costs as CPC charge £5.99 +VAT for small orders)
