Dutch24V 0 Posted March 28, 2006 PhatVR6, Don't suppose you know where I can get a second hand 4Motion downpipe? Finding it hard to source one over here and they cost 480 euro new from VAG (ex vat) Thinking about it would a RHD downpipe be different to a LHD one? 24V Renshaw 0 Posted March 28, 2006 I know it took Paul a while to find one for his MK4 and even then it was an S3 one. I would imagine the RHD one is different as it has to go round the steering column UJ..... Jay
Dutch24V 0 Posted March 31, 2006 Thanks, though it might be but wasn't sure. Bollocks...
antera309 0 Posted April 7, 2006 So just to recap, to do an R32/24v conversion on a VR6 the minimum you need is: Engine Engine bay wiring loom wiring loom for clocks (same loom?) ECU Clocks & ignition key (plus transponder ring as well?) Collar for one of the engine mounts (size?) Fabricated-from-scratch downpipe Mk4 fusebox, to use as an adpter for the wiring (good tip, there!) Drive by wire throttle pedal possible remote oil cooler to replace the stock one due to clearance problems. Is there anything else needed? (All Existing VR6 parts, new clutch etc. taken as read.) Air con pump will be coming off, so does this mean I need a custom belt, or will a non-aircon VR6 one do the job? For the DBW throttle pedal, do I just need the pedal and its sender, or will I need the pedal box it attaches to (or a chunk of it) as well?
CoxyLaad 0 Posted April 7, 2006 possible remote oil cooler to replace the stock one due to clearance problems. I am certain this is not necessary
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 7, 2006 Collar for one of the engine mounts (size?) nor this apparently
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 7, 2006 For the DBW you will need to weld a bracket to the existing VR pedal box btw. Dutch
h100vw 0 Posted April 7, 2006 @dutchVR6. I think Andy Walker who did stan's conversion may have one. The donor car is still in his workshop, I was there yesterday. PM coming with his email address. Gavin
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 7, 2006 PM'd back Gavin. Thanks... Thinking about it further I might call him as it goes, as I could use the flanges and then just make the pipe. I presume they're the same as the LHD ones, with just the pipe itself being bent slightly different ? Dutch
Stan 24v 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Coxy did you get the MPG working on your MFA? Also, is the rev counter ok? Does it fluctuate at all? Mine does. Andy reckons the pulse may be different between the newer and older engines. That is what happens when a 1.8T gets fitted to a Mk2 and the old clocks used. There is a little pcb that can be bought for them. Anyone else know anything?
CoxyLaad 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Stan you are assuming that I do more than 20 minutes a week on my car... I havent looked at a single thing on it mate. But it seems the mpg signal is indeed incompatible. Not noticed anything on the rev counter, how and when does it manifest itself?
Stan 24v 0 Posted April 21, 2006 Not noticed anything on the rev counter, how and when does it manifest itself? All the time!! Arse :(
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Don't suppose someone can PM me the phone number for Andy at PSI? Cheers, Dutch

Dutch24V 0 Posted April 25, 2006 Cheers mate. I can get a strainless mandrel (spelling?) bent downpipe made for +/- 200-250 Euro if I can supply the flanges :) Dutch
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 26, 2006 I'm going to order a new VR thermostat housing, but not sure if it will fit the 24v crack-pipe, or will I have to order a new 12v crack-pipe too?? I have checked ETKA and the part numbers for the 2 crack-pipes are different? Also, will the VR water pump fit the 24v block? Cheers, Dutch
24V Renshaw 0 Posted April 26, 2006 The 12v VR waterhousing fits straight on the 24v head and pipe mate. So does the waterpump (I think) but I did buy a new 24v pump so can't say for sure.... Jay
Dutch24V 0 Posted April 26, 2006 Cheers Jay. Dutch

Dutch24V 0 Posted April 26, 2006 Yep, Andy is going to try and source a 4Motion downpipe for me. He reckons it shouldn't be too much of a problem :) Dutch
storm_warning 0 Posted April 28, 2006 Wow. Just read this entire thread (well, I am at work - gotta kill the time somehow!!) and I am sooooooo impressed by the level of knowledge going on here. One thing no one seems to have mentioned so far is how much the full conversion has cost them? I know my engine's going to die at some stage, so I should be prepared for the costs of getting my baby back on the road if that happens! EDIT for attrocious spelllin arrors. Stan 24v 0 Posted April 28, 2006 Just shy of £3k including engine and parts ;)
Stan 24v 0 Posted May 30, 2006 Question guys - Is a Passat 4motion engine the same as a Mk4 one? If not, what are the differences? Im assuming it would still fit in a C?
double-6s 0 Posted May 30, 2006 Aha! Great minds eh mate? Was just about to ask on here :)
