dinkus 10 Posted December 7, 2005 dinkus....seems like a well engineered car to me?? http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/chevroletc6z06.html Blimey, how much does it look like a 360 in that top pic! Well it's got lots of fancy materials in it, but if the tolerances are a couple of inches and it's put together by a chimp, it's not going to make much difference  Plus, I know diddly about what the latest suspension setups are for supercars, but if I did, I'd suspect the 'vette uses something that's at least a decade old... And I wonder how much of the trim falls off within the first year? Well I think I got all the sweeping generalisationd and accusations I can in there, so gonna click Submit now  Ooh, no. And the steering wheel is on the wrogn side. Now I'm done

chrishill 0 Posted December 7, 2005 when i say modded i mean a car that has been modified to increase performance from it's standard form....so you can't compare a CSL or FQ400 to a factory vette or viper.... do they do uprated factory versions of the viper and vette? I'd argue that the FQ400 is to the evo what the R32 is to the golf and the cossie (back in the day) was to the escort, it depends where you draw the line. I could say my VR leaves an impreza for dead... which it would if the impreza in question wasnt the beefed up STI or WRX, but a lowly 1.6 non-turbo estate, gotta compare (factory) 'best of breed' for a fair fight! catch_twotwo 0 Posted December 7, 2005 you guys are great!!! dinkus....i'm not the biggest fan of the americans but i thought this would be an interesting thread to start... 8) chrishill....when i say modded i mean a car that has been modified to increase performance from it's standard form....so you can't compare a CSL or FQ400 to a factory vette or viper.... So equally you'd say that anything that is created after amk1 release isn't considered. These changes are an evolution to the original and although some models take things too far, they're all sold to the public and are road legal. Take AMG for example. You want a Merc, but you buy the AMG tuned version as it's faster and better looking. They're still valid cars in my opinion unless you buy a car, then roll it into your local tuning shop and get the thing pro-tuned just for kicks..... I must admit to never being driven in a US car.... but having seen a few hurting around roundabouts in my area I must say some really do look like they'd make me sea sick. dinkus 10 Posted December 7, 2005 If it comes from the factory like that, it classifies. And yeah, the 'vette doesn't look bad from the front (i.e. it's almost identical to a 360 but a little less refined), but the back is still pretty ugly. And it looks like a phallus from the side
chrishill 0 Posted December 7, 2005 And it looks like a phallus from the side funny, i saw an old balding gentleman driving one a while ago... i did think 'c*ck'

dinkus 10 Posted December 7, 2005 Oh yeah, thanks guys  I have to say, my general bias against yank cars is due to the number of them I saw in Canada. The new yank cars are just soo far behind anything European or Japanese. No wonder they don't try and sell any of them outside their own borders
catch_twotwo 0 Posted December 7, 2005 Yes.... thank god they don't. They'd never fit down our roads anyway. did you see the Top Gear review for that Ford pickup

chrishill 0 Posted December 7, 2005 chrishill.....not factory uprated option but they do indeed....compare this to a FQ400!!! http://www.fast-autos.net/lingenfelter/ ... 7comm.html impressive as that is... £75,000! if i bought me a fq400 for what, 40k? i'd have 35k left to hand over to noris designs... i'm sure given that amount of wedge they'd make something special... dutch 0 Posted December 7, 2005 dinkus...to do agree....the average yank car is light years behind Honda and most European car companies....
Neil VR6 0 Posted December 7, 2005 Yes.... thank god they don't. They'd never fit down our roads anyway. did you see the Top Gear review for that Ford pickup  That was an F150 although it was a non Ford approved RHD conversion hence the poor build quality. The LDH versions certainly aren't the be all and end all in build quality but they're not that bad. Moreover, it's a huge American supercharged truck. It's kind of been taken out of the environment for which it's designed. This was emphasised by Clarkson driving it past fudge shops and tea rooms in rurul England. He was making a point. In it's element it's perfect. Oh, and you've never felt air conditioning like that which is fitted to the F150!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted December 7, 2005 dinkus...i disagree...a Vette or Viper would walk an EVO on any road ....the age old argument that American sports cars don't handle as well as their European or Japanese counterparts is long over....maybe back in the 80's that argument would work but not nowadays They're getting closer......but Europe and GB moved away from Leaf springs in the 50s..... I see the 'Vette ZO6 *still* uses them.....and that's a £60K car! A nice 60K car tho :-) I personally think the Americans are among the best engine tuners in the world...... Brits and Japs might be able to extract tonnes of BHP from sewing machine sounding 4 pots with no torque (Noble excluded, he's my hero!), but when it comes to good old fashioned grunt, none of us Brits complain about using Vortech chargers, EIP turbo kits, BahnBrenner chargers etc etc.... all of which is American. I love the sound of massive yank V8s, the tonne of torque and lazy column shifters etc etc. Who wouldn't want a 60s Mustang drop top?? It's called character and relaxed driving..... if you want a car for going round corners like some drugged up road runner..... by an Evo. With roads as long and dull as some in America..... why rush? Soak up the rays and get a tan ;-) I doubt most of the people running down American cars have actually driven one. I've driven a Hemi 300C and that is actually a very good car 8)
catch_twotwo 0 Posted December 7, 2005 Well I'll give it to the yanks.... they do air-con better than anybody else ;)
dutch 0 Posted December 7, 2005 Kevhaywire.....exactly!! drive one people before you knock it....before i left Canada my company gave my a 300C SRT-8 to kick around in....i was very impressed with the advancments they have made.....and i'll tell you guys something....there nothing like hitting the pedal at 1500 RPM and having the car just pick up and hull ass!!! Neil VR6 0 Posted December 7, 2005 Quite, which is what's more important in an American car in America. ;)

catch_twotwo 0 Posted December 7, 2005 So are we moving the goals here ? Are we talking about European cars being better in the US (where they're not designed to be) or better in Europe ? Big difference.....
dinkus 10 Posted December 7, 2005 Oh don't get me wrong, I love the sound and laziness of an American V8's... but we (were) talking about tuning and performance cars...
