I hate the damn Corrado...

Recommended Posts

... it's too bloody addictive!!! I had a limit of around 6000miles a year (for insurance purposes along with other things), which mounts to around 100 miles a week (plus 800 "spare" miles), in the last 3 weeks I have already done 300 over the limit

Firstly, I'm still not working yet so can't really afford to keep running the car with around 200miles a week getting less than 20mpg (I cant help but put my foot down), and secondly, I spend waaayyyy too much time in the car, it just makes me feel so damn good, I don't want to get out of it, I dont want to stop driving it...

Is it just me, or is it the "Corrado bug"?

I think there's 5000 people that feel the same way on here mate :D

I have to say this week is rather fun - I'm working at a tiny place out in the middle of nowhere with some fantastic B-roads going to/from it :D :D

Yeah its a bug alright. Look at me.. i've owned two, sold two, and am already thinking about getting a third!

I used to lock my car and ALWAYS look at it over my shoulder as I walked away even late into the ownership of my second Corrado, and I never used to drive home directly on an evening.. i'd always drive past my road and carry on off to find some fun roads to drive up and down just because I loved to drive in the low slung, sporty position with plenty of horses under my right foot and with a great engine note that just used to make me laugh every time I gave it welly.

One of my fondest Corrado memories was driving back from a CCGB rolling road day at Stealth Racing in.. hm.. spring 2003 - it was early evening, the sun was low but it was warm, I had the sunroof and windows open and had my favourite music blasting out of the stereo and was in my old blackberry valver - everything was just right with the world and just remeber driving along thinking "This is great!" :)

They just get you like that. Its nothing unusual :)

Well put indeed jim . I can't wait to get another one...very strange cars, you really have to own one to understand, even my wife was saying last night that she can't wait untill she can have a purple raddo, once driven forever smitten lol

EDIT-- Oh, and Dinkus , a VR6 , bendy A roads, and you enjoying yourself behind the wheel can be a dangerous combo...whatch those pylons

I must admit i thought my girlfriend would hate it... as she's always slagged off Dubs. So when she drove it for the first time I was shocked to see her eyes light up.... now she wants to borrow it while I'm in Munich....

Hmm.... how can I make her hate it again ?

Answers on a postcard to....

Bypass the g-lader whilst you are away with a shorter belt. The G60 without the supercharger hooked up is apparently slower than a 1.4 non-turbo diesel :p

Hopefully to be kept instead of sold

Said bug affects me most in my Mk1 Rocco. Driving my Mk1 is totally addictive, apart from in town, with all the pot-holes, lumpy idling engine that just wants to go instead of waiting at round-abouts and traffic lights  But out in the open, it's pure pleasure :-) Sad but true: Not yet had that feeling in my Rado.

Mostly around town mate, with a few back roads on the way home.

Jim, that almost brought a tear to my eye.. :) I always check over my shoulder when I park, sometimes twice.

Everyday of Corrado ownership is like the first day, lots of love, very protective.. oh and a new problem every day as well ;)

So right Jim. I swear i spend as much time looking at it as driving it. They do make you feel good. Timeless shape, something about the way the line goes up at the back and they have such an agressive wide stance at the front, for their overall small car size. Like a bulldog on steroids with a touch of class.

I even just sit in it sometimes and wonder why!

Jim, really well put.

They are just so addictive ( and it stresses me everyday to look at it now and d not being being able to drive it, its now over a month now since the last time i drove it properly!)

Im not an attention seeker but I cant help looking at my rear view mirror when i go past some peeps to see their heads turnin so they can get a look in!

I dunno what it is about these cars, they just grab your heart and dont let go, even when they ike to bust!

True what Jim said about taking the long way home! Going home there is a left turning to get to my house, or if you go straight ahead for about 15 seconds there are about 10 dual carriageways and a bypass complete with roundabouts :D , bet ya you can guesss which route i normally take!

I'm the same mate. Really i'm not an attention seeker - i'm not loud, not a flashy dresser, anything like that. But I must admit that I used to love driving past people and seeing them turn around to look or see people in cars at the lights sneaking a look or reading the badging on the back! I remeber some lads in an Escort getting really excited in traffic one - I could literally read their lips as they read out 'supercharged' and the TSR logo. It was great.

Just goes to show that you don't need to buy a ridiculous X5 and stick on chrome spinner wheels to get attention. A modern classic with some subtle, tasteful styling will do the job 15x better and not make you look like a c*nt with it! ;)

My girlfriend calls it 'Lovin' the Corrado'. She looks out for people staring or double taking and she says 'Ooh he/she's loving the Corrado'... I am of course not an attention seeker either... :)

You're not kidding mate :-) LOL, only messing....

Well said mate :-) God I hate those things..... the spinners AND the X5!

Know what X5 actually means? It came from BMW's accountants when they were pricing up the car...... "Pick a price for the UK market, X it by 5 and the badge snobs will still buy them" Bet you never knew that, eh?

Back to Corrados again..... I really love them on the right wheels and ride height but standard ones I no longer find interesting to look at tbh.

Lol, I think the reason I cant really relate to what he is saying is because I havent seen a totally standard Corrado up close and personal, so really dont know the difference between a standard one and a non standard.

Either way, I know Kev is a major C nut, lol, no doubt about that :)

And boy am I glad you all are just as crazy as I am

I love standard Corrado's.. to be honest i'd happily have a nice unmodified VR6 on Speedlines than a heavily modified one. All i'd want was a mild suspension drop and an air filter perhaps and that'd be it. I'd even keep the Speedlines.
