snotrag 0 Posted August 3, 2006 Im just looking for a new car for when I turn 21, been looking at all sorts, budget 2 to 3g's, Been mainly looking at things like Seats, Mk1 focus, golfs, newer hatches/saloons. The corrado is much older, however this offsets the style of the car. Anyway, is there a buyers guide anywhere? Im gonna be looking at info on buying and insurance, however, Its midnight and my eyes are square from a monster ebay/autotrader sesh. So Hey, thanks for any help, and ill post back tomorrow! snotrag 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Great stuff guys, really usefull. Looks like a good close forum over here! I've got a few good mates who are big on the VW 'scene', ( guy with a 16v G60 mk1 )I was supposed to go down to the meet at Squires near me last week, didnt make it in the end. Wish I had, got dusted by a silver VR who was on the way there! I'll have to tag along and see if i can have a poke around one. Don't know anyone whose owned one unfortunately. Few Questions - MPG, better on the G60 than the N/A models? Also, the figures for the 3 N/A engines are very similar? Is there really much difference ( at std spec ) Bascially, a Corrado is gonna cost me a lot more to insure than other stuff I've looked at, which means I've got to adjsut my 'ratio' of buying/running costs... However, im thinking an average/not a shagger, not a minter type corrado, is gonna be a whole lot more enjoyable to own than a newer hatchback.. And Insurance can be paid monthly aswell! Guest Posted August 5, 2006 would have thought G60 MPG figures would have been lower than a valver. sensible/slower motorway cruising (70mph) etc can see me get high 30's from my VR 8)
Mave 0 Posted August 5, 2006 snotrag, welcome mate, nice name too lol :) MPG is rather close between all of them, going from least to most thirsty: 8v, 16v, g60 and vr6. BHP wise: 16v=136, G60=158, VR6=190. The G60 can have some small mods to help it keep up with the Vr6, eg smaller pulley, stg4 charger and chip. 16v isn't that quick to be honest, but you can do some mods on the 2.0 16v 9A to boost it's BHP up a little bit, as with the 1.8 16v KR, options are limited, although turboing one is good i hear! Few of the Vr6 boys have Supercharged them and I've never heard a bad thing about it! But yeah, they're a biotch to run, but when they're running fine they'll never fail to put a smile on your face :)

snotrag 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Thanks, the name/tag Ive had for years, when I first got the internet ( Remember that!? back in the 90's!? Dialup! ) I signed up to a forum, not a clue why I chose that, but now years later, Its stuck, and If you ever see 'snotrag' mentioned anywhere on the web I pretty much guarantee you its me! As for the cars, I had a period where I must have been turning into my dad, ''Ooh shall i get a diesel estate car, shall I get another ford, shall i put my standard HU in cos its easier to use...'' Now I've got a little bit more money ( Student, doing an industrial placement! ) and I've had a moment of clarity, I dont really give a rats ass about sensible, I want something thats gonna piss my mum off, something thats noisy and fun. Fast, well, im only jsut gonna be 21, Fast cars will come later in life, but a Corrado is looking more and more promising for the time being..!
Guest Posted August 5, 2006 where abouts are you based? peeps on here are always happy to take you for a spin to show you what the Rados are all about
snotrag 0 Posted August 5, 2006 I live East leeds, Garforth in fact right on the end of the M1. I'd be interested in getting to some meets if you guys do that kind of thing? Do you have like Are Reps and things like a lot of forums/clubs? ( Edit - I would be happy to park the Ford round the back! )
andyVR6 0 Posted August 5, 2006 people prefer there own different models i wanted a g60 to start with, test drove one and didn't like it but then again it was standard all though it was stated as havin a stage 4 charger. i then found a VR and loved it. if you look hard you'll get the insurance for around £1100 on a VR. dont worry about the miles either as most will tell you just buy one with good history. as for meets there was one last week in sheffield there should bve one coming up soon think squires is last thursday of the month. found my VR on here http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=
snotrag 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Cheers for the link, ill be looking at forums a lot, tend to be the cars that have been kept well at realistic prices. It'll be a 16v that im looking at, trust me 130brake is gonna be faster than my car now! I reckon if i've got 2 and a half I should be able to get a pretty nice one!? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/92263.htm Just my luck, bit too early for me, but it looks pretty sweet, FSH, and nearby! Just done a few quotes, looks like your about on the money with that, considering Ive jsut paid 750 for a group 7 car this year, im pretty happy about that. Im in no rush to buy ( Im waiting till im 21 end of the month anyway ), so ill see how it goes. Lastly - any other corrado/vw forums I should be checking? snotrag 0 Posted August 5, 2006 I guess I have to put a pound in the swear box now, but... 1996 1.6 Zetec Si. Now now, don't be so quick to slag... Its not exciting, but, im a student, Its done me fantastic. Cost me 750 quid, Its fantastically reliable, mint inside, outside average for age. I keep it clean, put petrol in it, service it once a year, and thats it. Im changing because Im earning more money now, I have more NCB, and will be 21 very soon. The world is, relatively, my oyster! On 84k now, and it will be a perfect first car for someone when it goes! Stan - cheers! I know about the Harewood thing, will be going up with some mates who have various Veedubs. snotrag 0 Posted August 5, 2006 Sweet, The Squires thing Ive been meaning to go to the past 2 with said mates ^, its about 10 minutes from my house...! Which is great except on a sunny wednesday evening you cant drive anywhere without being swarmed by bikes! Also means that if I do turn up, I can show you all where some good roads are nearby ;) And the escort, yup, i thought someone would have a heart in gob moment, but as I say, im not gonna slag it off cos its done its job explicably, and you cant say fairer than that.
