Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 21, 2006 I need to replace the numberplates on my corrado not sure what kinda style to get, have seen the german style but don't wanna get stopped by police anyone got pics of different styles, with border, no border, raised letters, 3D effect letters etc etc
vr6storm 0 Posted August 21, 2006 pop past yer local VW dealer and you can get Dealer-branded plates with a little VW logo and border pretty cheap.........but very subtle
Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 21, 2006 i don't really want any slogans etc, just not sure whether to get a border or not also how do i get them off??? can't see any fixings on the car, no holes in plate, if i pull it half the car is gonna come off
vr6storm 0 Posted August 21, 2006 they just have the Dealer's name on them.......in my case mine read Specialist Cars,Aberdeen with the VW logo next to them get some fishing line or dental floss behind the plate..........they'll just be stuck on with the number plate pads
Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 21, 2006 ta, i have plenty of fishing line :D
Phil K 0 Posted August 21, 2006 If you can't see anyfixings then my guess would be that it's on with pads... may be worth heating the plates to soften the glue before trying to pull them off... As far as borders go I think they look good with and without - my current ones are with out but may try a set with next time! Pic of mine with tinted plates... Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 21, 2006 i think i've decided to go without borders, avoid cluttering the car too much :)
herisites 0 Posted August 21, 2006 Sorry to butt into your thread 3corsameal but i also want to change my numberplates. Where do people get the german style plates from and how much are they usually? Are they road legal? Thanks. Rob. P.S sorry again mate
StuartFZR400 0 Posted August 21, 2006 I got mine directly off Sigma (the people who make them); for a reasonable price (less than Halfords). I added a boarder and Euro sign and Carbon letters. Plates cost about £12 each; plus sticky pads. Being Sigma, I know they are road legal. I was worried they would fall off, but have not yet. They bent just fine to the front bumper, as seen from link on sig. No water marks yet either, over 12 months old now.

herisites 0 Posted August 21, 2006 Cheers mate, so these will be legal then im guessing because they have GB on instead of D?
Bendy 0 Posted August 21, 2006 German style plates are as far as im aware illigal Rob, regardless of what country marking is on them, something to do with speed cameras not been able to pick them up!! But i've got a rear one on mine, never had any issue's with the :lcop: over them, not even on crimbo day when i got stopped for a lack of front number plateage!!! just depends on what you doin at the time they see you with them i guess, drive like a loon there gonna do you!! G60SC_Stoney 0 Posted August 22, 2006 they have to be in the official typeface that 'normal' cars use, therefore any other type of letter style is illegal...but ive got german plates on and never been stopped, as said above if you drive like a goon its just something else to have you on! drive normally and they wont even notice
Goldie 2 Posted August 22, 2006 Another tip i was told was if you do get stopped by the police for them they may not allow you to drive the car until legal plates are back on so stick your original set in the boot just to be sure. Could save alot of messing about on top of that £30 fine!!
herisites 0 Posted August 23, 2006 I will probably just leave them then, my numberplate has 3D effect lettering anyway so dont look too bad, but they are looking a bit worn so wanted to get some new ones, i might get a set at some point though
