0BD II VR6 on the rollers @ Stealth

Went to Stealth a couple of Saturdays ago with my mk2 VR6

 

Spec is 160,000 mile 0BDII 2.8 with new chains/guides/tensioners, Dougherty 268 cams, 6 branch eBay manifold and Carbonio CIA,Jetex 2.5" system.

 

Very pleased with results considering vag-com logged faults with lambda probe and MAF...

 

209bhp at 6150 and 188 lb/ft @ 5243rpm!

 

171bhp at the wheels

 

Plot overlaid with the last engine ( two week wonder 2035cc 16v on Newman 272s....)

Is that a standard 2.9 other than the OBD2?

Think so, it's got a Jetex 2.5" system same as mine with no centre silencer and either a BMC CDA or Ram air 'cossie' style filter.

 

Standard cams as far as I'm aware.

Seems unusually high for nothing more than a 2.5" exhaust and air filter. In fact I have never seen a normally aspirated VR6 with more torque than power, or a 24v come to think of it!

Yeah that's true, where the torque is in the rev range wasn't mentioned, but that is schrick like behaviour to a degree, but normally you're talking 205lb/ft, playing 190hp for example......and only around 3000rpm. The the torque falls away rapidly past 5000.

i'm looking forward to seeing your results double-6s as im having a schrick mani on the group buy and am thinking of going for cams aswell - what are you expecting?

Seriously I haven't got a clue what to expect. I've got a big bore throttle body going on as well so will be interesting to see what it produces all together.

 

In my experience though........

yes was at Steath weekend before last, i got 196bhp and 214lbft

 

mods are 2.9 ABV engine converted to OBD2,

BMC CDA filter,

2.5" Jetex centre box removed and no cat,

I used to have a Shrick'd and remapped (plus t/b, panel filter, Skorpion exhaust) VR6.

 

As originally rolling roaded by AMD* it was making 229lbft and 206bhp.

 

Six years later it was making 'just' 207 lbft and 215bhp.

 

*in 1998 - having just fitted the parts above.

I tried to email dr camshafts in the us re some cams for my vr and my mates 16v twin 45'd rocco. but the email on their site bounced back. anyone got the right email for them??

 

also whats obd and abv mean re the vr6??

ABV is the engine code for a 2.9 VR6 engine

 

OBD = on board diagnostics

 

0BD1 - earlier pre 95-96ish VR6 , runs an idle speed valve as an easy thing to identify under the bonnet..

 

OBD II later 2.8 VR6 easily identified by no ISV and a stepper motor throttle body.

OBD II has a faster more efficient ECU and even though it's rated the same power from VAG the OBD II cars tend to give more power, sometimes more than a 2.9.

 

I'm sure there's loads of other bits of info on this too :-P
