shawshankkid 1 Posted March 25, 2007 Hi all, Fitting new fuel tank staps in the week, anyone had problems with removing the bolts at all ? Cheers Chris.
dinkus 10 Posted March 25, 2007 Not tried myself, but I'd imagine they'll be rusty and covered in gunk. I'd make sure you've got a can of WD40, or even better, PlusGas (same thing but way better) to hand. Douse the bolts in that, leave for 20mins, have a go then. VR6 South 0 Posted March 25, 2007 Why are you putting new straps on? Are yours shot?
shawshankkid 1 Posted March 27, 2007 They are pretty rusty vrs south . I have thought about wire brushing & hammerite painting them.
Supercharged 2 Posted March 27, 2007 Should come off ok - replace with stainless... If you do one at a time you won't need to hold the tank up, early straps are same as a mk3 as you probably know - late ones now obselete..

Can you get stainless steel ones or do you need to get them made?#
dinkus 10 Posted March 27, 2007 I'm sure daves16v would be able to make some Stainless ones for you - they're not very complicated.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted March 27, 2007 Indeed, Dave made you some rather nice leather straps if I remember rightly?
dinkus 10 Posted March 27, 2007 I think you'll find they were 'restraints'

shawshankkid 1 Posted March 31, 2007 Yeah did mine yesterday, done in under 10 mins and thats with cleaning all the tank. although it does help to have a garage pit. cost £38.54 with discount, well worth doing.

So do you think they can be made from Stainless? If so I'll have your old ones :D
