sorry new to this what is VSR

Hello ive seen in the parts for sale a thread that is selling a schrick manifold and a VSR one .is this the same as the Schrick which is the better one and what are the performance gains. I take it the VSR one is rare as i have never heard of it. any help i would be most grateful.

.. The VSR is a genuine VW item produced by the factory to alter the power delivery in the VR6. The schrick is an aftermarket item that does the same job but is not an OEM part.

I thought the VGI was a slightly better design? Probably wrong though....

My understanding was that when VW couldnt be bothered to manufacture the VSR they sold the design off to Schrick who make them to this day.

 

That makes the prototypes like Chazrads rare as rocking horse poo, the VSRs very unusual and the schricks the norm but all with the same gains...

 

The only advantage of the prototype and the VSR is that the spark plugs are accessible....

The Schrick has different length headers too to make up for the asymetric design of the cylinder head. Should make it the better animal in reality.

It always looked to me like the runners on cylinders 2,4 & 6 looped further forwards on the Schrick to give a longer inlet tract and equalise overall length.

 

I had to move the rad back to fit the condensor and there's not much room in there now between inlet and fan. I've been fancying a VSR as they're closer to standard but in the end I guess I'll mod it again to squeeze a Schrick in.

VW couldn't justify the expense. The standard VR6 was already an expensive car and didn't sell well.

 

It was Pierburg who designed and produced the VSR manifold. Schrick did their own version of it later on as we know.

 

Yep, only the schrick has unequal length runners to balance the air flow in the rear cylinders, which was an obvious oversight by VW, but Schrick are engine designers in their own right, so were able to correct it.

 

VW later realised the error of their ways and adjusted the injector duty cycles for the rear bank with OBD2.

Aye, it was all about the money. The VR would have cost another 500-1000 notes with the VSR fitted, and bearing in mind that at the time it was already treading on the toes of a nicely specced BMW 325i, price wise, and they simply didn't think it would sell.

They were right - it's all very well for us lot spending £4-6k ten+ years later, but the Corrado VR6's new price in 1993 was equivalent to about £35k now... Another 1k at the time would have made that £37k now ... That's a whole lot of cash for an uglified Golf missing it's rear headroom.

Oooooh I dunno.... the Corrado was a lot better looking than it's Golf cousin. The IROC on the other hand *is* most definitely an uglified Golf ;-)

I bought my valver in '95 the same time as a mate of mine bought the same. A year later the local dealer had two used Storms in the showroom, one with 25K on the clock, the other with 40K on it. They were both priced at £25K which was more than new??? We both swapped the valvers about the same time in 2000, me for the VR I have now and my mate for an M3 because he said he could not justify the £13-14K price tags I was looking at just for a VW.

 

Shame they didn't go ahead with the VSR when originally designed but as you say, it was already too expensive a car that didn't sell very well.

For a couple of badges, a colour coded grill and different wheels at that!

 

I bought my Classic Green VR from Autotek in Surrey in Sept 2000 as he was something of a specialist at the time having 12 or so Corrados on the forecourt at any one time. When I went to collect it two weeks after doing the deal there was a green Storm for £500 more than I'd agreed for mine which really tempted me but in the end two young kids and a cream interior swayed us towards the one we'd settled on already. Of course if the Storm had Recaros..............................
