Riley 0 Posted May 12, 2007 I really dont know what to do with my corrado :( Some probably know (and probably sick of hearing about) the problem ive had with it for over 12 friggin months :( ...But it seems NOBODY can help. As a last ditch effort to sort it,im gonna possibly have vince at stealth look at it...and maybe rolling road it? to try and diagnose the problem so that i can fix it myself...depending what it is. Ive no confidence in the problem being found but its worth a shot. If the problem isn't found, then i want rid,or i did initially. But then ive got a couple of valver lumps sat here,1800 and 2.0 also a set of 45 webers that i bought brand new and ran on the mk1 gti for a short time. But,is going from original G60 to 2.0 16v on 45's a bad idea? Surely it will devalue the car.But at least it WILL be reliable and responsive without any hassle. Dunno...just thinking aloud really. Andy665 0 Posted May 12, 2007 If the rest of the car is sound and you would keep it for a good while and not dispose of the original engine then I'd say it would be worth swapping over
Riley 0 Posted May 12, 2007 Aye,the shell is solid...I bought it for that reason really...wasn't fussed about what engine it had. But if im honest im not a massive fan of the G60...especially after owning this. Everything works except the spoiler is intermittent now and again.Even the sunroof works fully as yet! Its never wanted for anything, and its always had more than needed when it comes to replacing parts/servicing etc Its just this ongoing problem thats grinding me down,i dont know how ive stuck with it for so long tbh.
_leon_ 0 Posted May 12, 2007 I still think the same as what I posted before. You should bite the bullet and take it to a specialist - not your local VW specialist - but a 'tuning shop' and leave it with them for a week - get it back and have the problem fixed. You WILL enjoy the car a lot once you get that problem fixed. I had a few things I wanted done on mine - and I settled on the idea of getting a good garage to set the car up and do other jobs regardless of the cost or length of time to do it. I knew it was in good hands and that they're totally fair. Now I have it back - got a fair sized bill - but the car is superb - back in love with it again - I'm now able to start booking track days instead of thinking of problems etc. Sounds like you need to do the same and overcome your issue with it. Besides - whos to say swapping over engines won't bring its own host of issues - potentially more - and again, wasting your money.
Riley 0 Posted May 12, 2007 Aye,see what ya saying Leon... Thing is...i have no income  Im in a lot of debt...so ive been holding back as long as possible before taking it somewhere.I am probably going to just take it to stealth though regardless... But i don't want to be leaving it anywhere really...Just want someone friendly to have a look/listen and give their opinion on possible cause. And then take it from there...labour charges? etc etc...i need to know a rough idea of cost with not having any 'cash' so to speak. Neil.
_leon_ 0 Posted May 12, 2007 I also see what you're saying! But to be perfectly honest - thats more likely to throw money away. I truly think what you need now is to hand the car over to someone who will find the problem AND fix it. These sorts of garages really aren't as expensive as you think. In summary, at Star Perf I got the below done; - fit center section of exhaust - fit mocal oil cooler - fit suspension with top mounts etc - wheel alignment/tracking etc - set up timing, fuelling - rolling road - mot/2 drop links/rear wheel bearings Got it back, running better than it ever has done (in 2.5 years) and a bill of £670 inc vat. Yes the amount is a lot - but I don't think its too unreasonable for all the work done. The worksmanship was great and I can't complain. And now I can enjoy the car - not see it as a burden and drain on finances. Hopefully that will persuade you! Even get yourself a cheap set of wheels to claw back some cash to pay someone to fix it. Mave 0 Posted May 12, 2007 If you're in a lot of debt mate, take it off the road and buy a banger or something. It's only a car at the end of the day.
Jim 2 Posted May 12, 2007 I think you've just done too much to it to get rid of it mate. I'd do what Mave says.. take it off the road, store it somewhere (you can get a lock up for not much per month) and buy a shed to get you round for a while. Then you've got the Rado waiting for you when you have the time and money to finish it off! :)
_leon_ 0 Posted May 12, 2007 I did that for 11 months - drove an old estate car that cost me £270. Its now scrapped and I got £40 back for it. Meant I could do some work to the G60 without costing me loads, saved money, then at the end paid the cash to get the final stuff done by a specialist. Now I have my car back and it rocks. MK1Campaign 0 Posted May 12, 2007 If Vince cant fix it then no one can lol Seriously get it to Stealth. It could be something really silly that wont cost much at all.
Riley 0 Posted May 12, 2007 Cheers guys...I think i do want rid of it.Just need it sorting first... Its just been soooo unreliable, ive only covered 11k miles in it since ive had it (2.5 years) and its supposed to be an everyday car. Ive spent more time in the g/friends lupo and my old sportline with it forever being off the road  Ive emailed vince to see what he can do,hopefully i wont have to leave the car with him as he is quite a distance from me. Today ive used one of the colourtune spark plugs...each cylinder is burning blue with the odd flash of orange. All the plugs are evenly burning, slightly sooty. Im just so p|ssed off with keep having to think about it,and trying to sort it.Its consuming my friggin life man.
