chazrad 0 Posted October 6, 2009 Good on you, Karl. I'm really sorry to hear about all the hassle you've had over the ECU. Like others say, I hope it'll be resolved soon. You won't regret going down the 12v turbo avenue, matey. Its cost me alot of money but that's because I've had it all done for me and I've tried to tick all the boxes. There is definitely a cheaper way to do it, and you deserve to find that way, what with the various bits of bad luck you've had automotively and domestically over the last 12 months. :? Once mine's run in matey, I'd gladly take you out for a spin if our paths cross. I the mean time, good luck with growing your VRT parts collection. PS. Have you got a spacer plate (to lower compression) yet? I may have a Dubpower (8.5:1) one for sale shortly, if its salvageable once Tim has cleaned it up. edit: I meant to add that I saw the Oak Green Mk2 Gti with your R32 engine in, at the Phirm Open Day last Sunday. The install is a very neat job. It now needs the mapping sorted but Adam was there also, and he seemed happy with it.
KADVR6 0 Posted October 6, 2009 cheers Charlie, if the spacer gasket is ok i will most def take it off your hands mate :salute: and yeh tim had told me that the r32 was running kinda ok but just needed some final fettling, as for the vrt conversion i have spent a grand total of £870 and all i need is a spacer gasket and some form of cooling?? but i'm just going for an intercooler as i'm not going to pay for the cost of using a chargecooler. and yeh i would just love a go in yours when its properly run in mate :D
KADVR6 0 Posted October 15, 2009 well tomorrow i'm gonna be putting all the engine bits back onto the block, thats if i can remeber where everything came from  ALL the componets have been soda blasted and then powder coated, then they have been clear passivated so they will stay shiny for a long time i hope. this is the only pic of the bits so far as the rest is sitting near the engine waiting for tomorrow. so wait for newbie type questions about where does this go??

KADVR6 0 Posted October 15, 2009 They definitely go at the back, underneath.... yeh thats what i thought also, why do vw originally put the sump at the bottom?? looks much better on top
Leonard 0 Posted October 15, 2009 Looking good. But what the hell is clear passivated :confused4: LOL
KADVR6 0 Posted October 15, 2009 Looking good. But what the hell is clear passivated :confused4: LOL its like a lacquer but has brilliant resistance against salt/oil etc etc, when i worked in a Automotive/Aerospace manufacturer, about 90% of all metals used had some form of passivate coating on them to protect them from the elements. That sounds interesting. Is it easily attainable?
KADVR6 0 Posted October 15, 2009 yeh Matt, you just need to find a good platers that does "specialist" plating, i use a company called century plating in birmingham, they didnt even charge me for doing it, but i did get them there biggest customer some 15 years ago. any platers that do zinc plating will do the passivation process. CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted October 15, 2009 hmmm...nice 8) and even better once you have the car back on the road!
Philmo 0 Posted October 16, 2009 Isn't passivation like acid etching, which is recommended on galvanised surfaces to neutralise and etch a key prior to painting? In the old days the acid etch was done with a "mordaunt solution". Or am I totally on the wrong track here?
KADVR6 0 Posted October 17, 2009 here ya go Phil http://www.metalcolours.co.uk/capability.php
Philmo 0 Posted October 17, 2009 here ya go Phil http://www.metalcolours.co.uk/capability.php OK - thanks Karl, though unfortunately Metalcolours have now failed! I found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passivation also http://resource.npl.co.uk/docs/science_ ... oating.pdf It seems passivation and zinc plate prep aren't quite the same. KADVR6 0 Posted October 19, 2009 thought it was about time i put some pics up of the new BM, its older that what i was looking for but it has massive service history plus it had a new manifold fitted last year, as these manifolds are prown to breaking the swirl flaps and throwing the broken bits into the engine. all was going well with the BM until i noticed the waterpump had a tiny leak, so decided to fix this ASAP, while changing the waterpump which is a complete B***H of a job i dropoed the pump and split the rad :censored: but alls well. and as for BMW saying there cars ar the ultimate driving machine?? lets just say there engineers never drove a corrado vr6  couple of pics, look at the MPG in the pic also, not bad for 220bhp/385lb 8) (yes i have had it re-mapped)
coullstar 0 Posted October 22, 2009 Spooky, just been thinking about getting one of these but petrol 328 or 330. Anything to look for that you know of?
KADVR6 0 Posted October 22, 2009 Spooky, just been thinking about getting one of these but petrol 328 or 330. Anything to look for that you know of? do it mate, i'm really liking mine at the moment. With the 328/330 descion its fairly easy as the 328 is not as powerfull/smooth as the 330 but the 330 is better on petrol, and also alot faster.
