Critical_Mass 10 Posted December 21, 2007 Its Standard. Its the points i have thats killing me, i have 3 years no claims with having a bump in 2005. I was a month short off 5 years without having a crash then got points and a bump in one smegging year :( Although im only 3rd party, with Adrian Flux im still covered to driver other vehicles like you would be able to on comp, apparently they do it on age (25) rather then cover type. CazzaVR 0 Posted December 21, 2007 Renewed today. Adrain Flux quoted me £380 to renew, which was up from £330 last year  Shopped around and got back to them. They dropped to £309 fully comp, protected no claims, £300 excess, inc ANY mods! I can turbo it and they won't up the premium! Well chuffed in the end, although I wish they'd just give you the best price in the first place...

martinb 0 Posted December 24, 2007 Flux are a sister company of HIC so have access to many of the same schemes anyway. Threads like this achieve very little as there are soooooooooooooooo many other factors other than just age/car so comparisons in this way rarly give any accurate guides as to what you should be paying, other factors such as where you live, occupation, driving history, annual mileage, vehicle value etc can make a huge difference. next time you want any help with a HIC quote though drop me a pm and i will happily see what i can do. HiAsAKite 0 Posted December 24, 2007 I use these chaps.. http://www.harringtonadams.com/ - very helpful and professional and if you are in their area (central London) you can go and see them in person which makes a v. refreshing change for a myriad of call centres etc.. They're brokers but got my around £450 for the VR. I managed to get one slightly cheaper quote than the one I went for with the above, but that had rather restrictive covenants around how much money you get back if you cancel mid-term (eg if sell/swap the car at some point)- ie not the usual pro-rata job.. Summary of stats for comparison purposes (As someone said there are so many factors that can affect quote) '93 VR6 import (left hand drive) Modified brakes kept garaged in Guildford Me:- 31, IAM, 3 pts (speeding), 9 yrs NCB, no claims
Jim 2 Posted December 24, 2007 I'm sick of car insurance in this country to be honest, and specifically fed up of how much it costs to insure the bloody Corrado. I appreciate martinb's help this year in getting myself a much more realistic premium but its just daylight robbery! Probably not helped though by all these personal injury claims and crap like that all the time. But why does it cost so much for a Corrado? For example, I just did a quick online quote and its cheaper to insure myself on a £25,000, 2 year old BMW 330ci than it is my old 2.0 16v.... essentially a £1,500 POS old Volkswagen. Go figure. Why is that? Isn't the Corrado really due a reclassification?
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted December 24, 2007 its more to do with drivers aids, better security and not having obsolete parts that would make the BMW cheaper to insure and repair. I was paying 450 fully comp for my VR6 turbo....adrain flux.
Jim 2 Posted December 24, 2007 that would make the BMW cheaper to insure and repair. But then.. I seriously doubt they would ever green light repairs on a Corrado that cost £2,000 - £2,500 as they'd claim it was 50% of the value of the car, and then write it off. By the same rules they'd approve £12,500 worth of repairs on a BMW costing £25k... How can the Corrado be more expensive to repair? Even if they were writing Corrado's off every time, it'd still be cheaper than fixing newer cars in most situations.
Walesy 0 Posted December 25, 2007 Good point Jim, and I agree - insurance in this country is a complete piss take. I got myself a quote the other day from HIC and it was literaly laughable  - they padded out the policy with extras that I neither asked for or wanted and then told me they wanted over a grand for me and my wife to be insured on a poxy 16v
nocrap 0 Posted December 26, 2007 The other thing i can't understand is how they can Group the 2.0 16v as 17 and the 1.8 as a 15!
Jim 2 Posted December 26, 2007 I got myself a quote the other day from HIC Well to be fair my best quotes have been with HIC and they do agreed valuations for like £18 or something which is pretty fair. At least you know you'll get a decent pay out in the event that the unthinkable happens!

We ALWAYS disclose all/any add ons and fees on the policies we offer and explain if any are optional, it is an FSA requirement and our calls are audited to make sure we are doing it so if the operator you spoke to did not do this then they where not doing their job properly, again if you feel this was not the case let me know, all calls are recorded so i can check and if necessary remend the staff member tha this needs to be done. martinb 0 Posted December 29, 2007 Probably not helped though by all these personal injury claims and crap like that all the time. That is VERY true. This was one of the main reasons we stopped doing short term cover as there seemed to be a huge amount of personal injury claims etc - many fraudulent. We had people taking a 1month policy then having several claims on it and claiming whiplash on all etc. I just did a quick online quote in my experience i have found online quotes extremly unreliable (hence why we currently have stopped offering them!), most companies (particularly aggregators like money supermarket/confused etc) will ask the bare minimum required amount of questions and then base the rest on assumptions so that often when you try to accept the quote you find there are additional questions/fees to pay. Also it is so easy to click the wrong box etc and completly mess up your quote and a computer is not able to underwrite a risk so will purely give you the rate its programmed, you dont get someone experienced who can where necessary say "hmmm this bloke is an enthusiast who has owned the car over a year and has full ncb £1000 seems a bit steep" and then go to some insurers and get you a deal. I agree Corrado's do still seem very expensive to insure (i have to insure mine!) but its swings and roundabouts really. If you want cover for mods/agreed value etc then you have to get specialist insurance which tends to cost more or you can go to a mainstream company and possibly save a couple of quid but pay the price if you have a claim and get "book" price or want to modify the car. The fact many Corrado's are now old enough for Classic insurance should help reduce premiums a lot now in some cases. I got myself a quote the other day from HIC Well to be fair my best quotes have been with HIC and they do agreed valuations for like £18 or something which is pretty fair. At least you know you'll get a decent pay out in the event that the unthinkable happens! Unfortunatly, as hard as we try its impossible to win them all, HIC are a broker and the actual grouping is done by the insurers we use. The agreed valuations cost £15.75 (which reminds me, i still have to get mine done, i renewed over a month ago!!!! ) Martin :)

If you're a club member you can get even more discount, just a thought in case you haven't already tried them.
steve_16v 0 Posted January 25, 2008 Renewed mine the other week, HIC renewal price was £1100ish with £250 excess, so I got a quote from Brentacre, £830 with £350 excess, rang HIC and the best they could do was £909 with £450 excess, strangely both were underwritten by Highway. No brainer really. 28yo, license for over 10 years, Class 1 business, 16,000 miles (6,000 business, 10,000 social, domestic and commuting), 3 years no claims, medium risk area, 3 points from an SP30 in 09/06, 50/50 claim in April 2005, all mods declared. Brentacre also automatically insure it up to 150bhp (136 standard) ... so I bought a magnex cat back last week, Brentacre didn't even charge me for changing the policy ... which was nice! dinkus 10 Posted January 25, 2008 I'm with elephant which is again the cheapest place I've found for me by far. Plus my premium dropped by over £100 this year! Wooo!
KipVR 1 Posted January 25, 2008 I've been with HIC, Elephant and now with Brentacre and can honestly say, that with the small difference between the prices, on the occasions that I have had to sort something out, it's much easier with Brentacre, because there are only a couple of them there. I had to make a claim with Elephant and it took forever, speaking to a different person every time I phoned, having to explain it all over again etc.....HIC were similar, you can't help it with a big company. I can't reccomend Brentacre enough, and they beat the HIC/Elephant quotes.
steve_16v 0 Posted January 25, 2008 I've been insured with Elephant in the past but when I was looking this year their quote was about £1400  When I had a look on comparethemarket/autotrader/moneysupermarket the quotes ranged from £700 to £1800, without declaring mods, so Brentacre were the best by a long way.
