MOT booked for Monday!

Recommended Posts

oh yes the audi,i was stripping things of of it with wanton abandonment.

As i said mate all your doing is gripping the base of the dizzy with a set of mole grops and turning.

Not really possible to break anything.

Worked a treat freeing mine up,and mine still had the tamper proof seal on there so it had not been moved since it had come from the factory.

Ok torque, I'll give it a go tomorrow. I can't imagine what I'd be doing right now if I didn't have you guys to ask for help! Probably sitting in a corner gently weeping!

 Oh, that's what it said. The font was so small I could barely read it.

Just joking. You know I only have eyes for you.

Well, thanks to one last effort and some comedy engine timing it works!

I tried to turn the dizzy using all my might but it just wouldn't budge. So I took the cam belt off and timed the crank shaft pulley with the intermediate sprocket and the rotor arm was still out. I just turned the rotor arm so that it was at TDC but the intermediate sprocket and crank pulley were out of alignment with each other, put the belt back on, tensioned it up, turned the engine by hand to make sure all was well and hey presto it is spot on now. When I first started it up I only had three cylinders (probably a bit choked up) but I took it for a little run and it sorted itself out and it's now smooth as anything. I don't think a car that doesn't have a Corrado badge on the back has ever put that big a smile on my face!

Thank fook! :D :D :D

I'm just putting a guide together entitled "How to change a head gasket the hard way by Sonicriot13".

Thanks to everyone for their help. As I keep saying I couldn't have done it without you lot! :D

Cheers guys. :D

Frankly it shouldn't have been that much of a faff but at least it's sorted now. I've learned some valuable lessons.

Well, onto the next job now. Finally going to fit those Weitecs to my G60. I can't handle (pun intended) that sh!tty set up (lowered on springs with standard shocks) that's on there at the moment any longer!

Thought I'd close the head gasket saga with some pics. Gave it a wash today as it was really dusty from sitting in the garage for so long. Still think it's a really nice mk2. :D

A list of what I did to it:

New head gasket

New cylinder head bolts

Cylinder head skimmed

New cylinder head flanges

New Exhaust manifold gaskets

New intake manifold gasket

New cam cover gasket

Flushed coolant system and replaced coolant

New oil and filter

New cam belt

New tensioner pulley

And replaced loads of nuts and bolts that were past it

Also here is a picture of the Rado back in its rightful place.

Never before has so much interest been generated about a blown head gasket! I'll miss this chapter of the 8v daily. :(

Edit: Berol!
