My 993

Recommended Posts

haven't actually got a gallery thread for this one,the background to this is that in January 2005,my Mother sadly passed away very suddenly,so I was left with a 3 bed semi-detached house,as I was quite settled in the area of Aberdeen I stay in,me and the wife decided that we would sell my Mother's house and also our 2-bed semi and get a bigger house with at least a driveway and garage, and as all the proceeds from my Mother's house bar the legal fees would be direct to me,no mortgage to pay off etc,we sold both houses and found a nice 3 bed semi ex-showhouse on a corner plot too and the bonus was the fact it had a double driveway and best of all it had a double garage, anyway part of the deal with the wife was that we would put so much of my Mother's house proceeds into it,also put away a decent sum for a rainy day and best of all I could go and get a new car,my first thoughts were YES I'll go and buy a Brand New Boxster (the 987 model was just launched months previously) so that was what i thought would be the ideal buy,I test drove both the 2.7 and Boxster S and decided I wanted the Boxster S,priced/specced one up and it was coming to £43k!!!,then the Cayman S was away to be launched and i started thinking about one of them, but as they were £3k dearer to start with I started to get a reality check  ,spoke to a good friend who had bought a brand new 996 C4S just months previously and he asked me this question........."when you open your garage door, which would you rather see?...a Boxster/Cayman or a 911?",that was what done it for me,not only would I save money buying a 911(didn't want to spend £40k+ on a 996 when you could get into a 993 for under £30k,but it would save me losing a heap in depreciation,as it happened a customer of my in-law's was away to sell his 993 Carrera 4 that he had just bought 18months or so previously,I remembered the day he bought it and he came to the yard to pay his account in it,at the time I had sat in it thinking I wish i could have one of these, but knew I could never afford one, anyway i spoke to him and we agreed a deal subject to a PPI,all that went well and after money changed hands i owned a lovely low mile 95 993 Carrera 4 in midnight blue metallic with the RS aerokit, anyway here's pics of it

Fantastic car and in a day when good 996's and 997's are cheaper than new boxters, I'd still have the 993...

IMO it's the last of the classic 911's being aircooled etc and probably the only car i'd replace the Corrado with.

Roddy was kind enough to let me have a quick drive of this when I was up in Scotland, supperb bit of kit.

The problem is when you drive one you have to have one!

100% agree, lovely motor and definitely the best of the 911's in my opinion. Can I be really cheeky and ask how much?

I couldn't not let you have a drive after you driving all the way up to Moray Steve, although that was when it was in need of a new clutch so you didn't quite get the full on 993 experience :norty:

not a problem,i paid a wee bit over the odds at the time,I paid £26.5k for it in October 2005 at the time it had 19k miles on the speedo(alas the speedo had a documented change at 40k miles ) so basically close on 60k miles, the RS aerokit to add to an un-kitted car is easily close to £3k!!!!,so in a way it wasn't too dear

I've always loved the 993 more then any other 911, there fetching more money than early 996's and for good reason. They have a 'top second hand cars to own' review on them in this weeks Autocar if you're interested. Nice car, enjoy it!!
