OK... im getting RELAY worried now.

Got in the rado and started her up to keep her from seizing during the cold months. Had to push start her as i cant afford to get the starter motor fixed :(

Anywho, was sitting in the car and i grabbed the steering wheel and a LOAD of black rubbery crap came off in my hands... its like the steering wheel is MELTING! I've taken it out of the car and have tried cleaning it off with some soapy water and drying it off but it doesn't seem to want to "dry". I dont remember spilling any solvent on the rubber but who knows what you get on your hands when your working on the car?

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

Looks like the steering wheels natural rubber coating is just reaching the end of its life... my chemistry buff friend say that there isnt anything to do when it has started to degrade. So, now it looks like i hav another thing to get it now. My list of things to fix is just getting longer and longer and longer....

Hang in there Alex, it'll come good in the end. Did you manage to secure a roof for her for the winter?

no

My dad was going to buy me a cover for her but im worried that where i live, if i cover her up ppl will think shes fair game and smash in the windows or something :(

I did find some place about 30mins away with a locked roller door and power but the boy wanted £50 a month plus bills :mad2: no chance

Right, for those of you that havn't herd the rado has taken another set bk since christmas in the form of cash flow. The money i has been saving up to buy new Kw's, brakes and started motor has now been spent on getting a new second car after some pillock drove into the side of my Polo. :mad2:

However, there is some good news in the form of a lock up and a load of internal trim that recently arrived (thanks Novastrike!) so... in the absense of anything constructive to get on with im going to sort out the internals!

today and a few hrs yesterday has been seats removed, handbrake trim removed and steering cowling removed. I also tried to get the ignition switch out today but i don't have a screwdriver small enough to get round the bk. Spent about 3 hours on it with a bigish one that i bent for the task but after and hour of sqeezing i tried to bend the screwdriver tip another few degrees and snapped the end off :brickwall:

ohh well... at least with the seats off and the new trim sitting in the car i can at least work on the car now!!!

that garage looks.................. cosey...

ohh im sorry it doesn't meet your high standards KRIS! we can't all steal our mothers Garage!

It is a little small though. However there's a good few meters at the bk of the car so enough room for a bench and tools etc.

OKEY DOKEY

All the interior is out now, carpet comes out tomorrow and im in the process of restitching the damaged cloth and cleaning the floor pan and greasing up the gear knob! :camp:

Unfortunately, My camera although working fine has ran out of battery and i can't find the battery charger ( ) so you'll have to take this all on faith at the moment as i dont even have a camera on my phone!

Next month is off to buy a new heater matrix and continue on the now almost forgot project of cleaning the alloy wheels and re-spraying them. Photos will be up as soon as i can find the battery charger!

By the way, while I'm on here i was wondering has anyone got any good recommendations for cleaning the fabric on the seats without removing it? also something good for the internal plastic trim would be good too. :)

Hey all, just a quick note to let you all know the new story of my loverly C.

Got thrown out of the lock up so for the past 4 months she has been sat idle on my drive. Shes under cover and had the rusty bits covered with hamerite until I can fix them up properly.

My trouble is getting the space to rip the slam panel off (not to mention the weather). Council lock ups are to small to work in and my drive is not much better. Still I have BIG plans as soon as I can get crimbo out of the way. Then it's all hands to the pumps! Check this space

PS here's a photo to keep you all going... Best I can do in the circumstances!
