Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!

Recommended Posts

Hi mate, looks good! Body kit and alloys look smart, I'd keep it all on unless you want to get gti aniversary kit on including the BBS alloys. But even then I think they would both look just as smart! Just drive the thing and spend the extra time and money finishing the Corrado!

Some black headlights would finish that off nicely.

I'm in two minds about the ABT kit. It looked good a few years ago but looks a bit dated now, especially when you compare it to VW's own bodykit (R32).

Two things about the ABT would tempt me to leave it that way:-

1) Rarity. You won't see many ABT kitted MK4s in the UK. They're a premium brand tuner in Germany.

2) Dealer fitted, so done properly and a good selling point in the future.

However, I can see why you want it taken off.....the sill mouldings don't really work imo.

The ABT kit on a black car kind of looks ok IMHO, I saw it on a silver mk4 recently and it didn't work. How you stand with insurance on this Ben, did the previous owner advise of the ABT kit? Still on for 2nite btw, I've got your heater matrix in the boot of the C.

I don't really like the kit to be honest, when I bought the car I wasn't interested in the kit, the car underneith is what I was after.. Black, all extras bar xenons, black, 33k miles.. for well under 9k.. I think the front and rear valace looks a little ott and the side skirts are not right... I like the grill and spoiler and the back box is ok too but I will sell it as a complete kit.. When I get the car I'll take it all off and wack it on ebay as a kit... It was a lot of money when it was new and Awesome Gti sell the kit for about 1k! and thats not painted and fitted.. I have the whole kit + the rear ABT SS back box as well. Not sure how much I should sell mine for though. Its not damaged at all and there are few stone chips, although someone would prob re-spray it to match their car.. I'll see how much interest I get and draw a price up from that. Still open to offers from this forum btw! Going to re-furb the wheels and get shot of those as well I think, they are very nice wheels and well expensive new, like £400 each without tyres!! but the car is going to be in london so prob will put some standard wheels back on.....

Insurance isn't too bad at the moment. Just transfered it over from my old mk3 tdi and it went up 100 quid (with wheels declared), but that was too fully comp from TPFT as well.. BUT thats under my parents address in Norfolk so I need to change to my address london which might put it up a bit more...hopefully not too much.

Time for an update I think, I've been working hard on the interior all weekend, put 24hrs in, in 2 days, completely knackered now!!

Anyway I've fabricated some sides for the tunnel and begun to mould the rear of the tunnel to fit flush with the corrado rear bench armrest. Bear in mind that it all needs tidying up so it may not come across as being very neat! I've started to mould the passengers side under tray but as you can see its still in basic form. I made a mould for a new end to the dash on the passenger’s side. I also starting making the vents, which you can’t see as, they are hidden in between the 2 parts of the dash! I fitted and modified the standard TVR glove box in the middle, but need to fit the mk4 heater box behind to be sure it will clear ok.. Anyway more to come in a couple of weeks might get near to finishing the interior with another productive weekend like this one..! Leather has been bought and the trimmer is standing by (decided against doing it myself as I wanted a really good finish to complement the car and the 4 years work!) Here are a few pics…

cheers guys, shouldn't take too long to finish it off inside.. Door cards need some attention and under trays and basically smart'ning it up. Got to find another seat from somewhere as well. Then off to the trimmers after Worthersee/Inters!

Rolex,

Thanks mate. I wish I could have it finished for Inters, but I don't have the time or the ££££ to finish it off in 13 days! Wait for Edition 38, it should be done by then! Only the interior needs finishing now, and a few bits and bobs... :D

lol you'll never make it!

well I am making slow but steady progress - just ordered my third set of rear bearings for the rear wishbones (dont ask) so once they are in the list is as follows:

Underseal the underbody (p.s. does anyone know if you can paint over shultz?)

paint up the new haldex bracketry

fit bearings to wishbones

shorten prop 70mm

locate and fit a digifant fuel pump and lines

fit fuel tank

get exhaust made up (somehow)

then get it painted

not much really

oh I forgot I have no brakes at the moment either!

I would stick my neck out and say it will be ready this year

lots to do then?

I have the following to do -

Interior to finish off, including door cards, dash, center tunnel.

Buy a passengers seat.

Full re-trim.

Rear wishbones.

Modify the exhaust.

Finish modding front + rear bumpers.

Fit new fuel rail.

Electics needs finishing.

Few other bits and then get it mapped...

Only expenses left are just the re-trim and mapping, + other bits + bobs..

Well to be honest I think it was my fault!

Basically I was following a convoy of dubs coming upto a round'a'bout on the A12 and everyone was far to close to each other, I had 3 people in the car and a boot full of luggage from the worthersee trip and basically the cars in front broke very hard very quickly and I just couldn't brake in time, so my instincts told me to swerve to the right to avoid a massive pile up, which I did.. missing the car in front by inches but obviously pulling out into the other lane and a mk2 golf just clipped my rear drivers quarter panel. If I had gone left I would have landed up in a ditch and if I had stayed in my lane then I would have been involved in a nasty pile up.. so think what I did was the best outcome, if there is such a thing! Anyway the mk2 I think came off worse than me but I want to try and not claim on the insurance as I really need the NCB for the corrado! Will see what happens… the other car was some little kiddies pride and joy, a 1.6 mk2 golf, quite tidy, he had obviously spent all his money doing it up and I felt really guilty to be honest and sorry for the lad… what can I say, these things happen..

Sounds like you did the right thing. Good/quick thinking is what makes the difference between a good driver and a very good driver.

Although you aren't an excellent driver because you would have been a further distance back behind from the car in front. I.e. braking distance

Good call though! :)

Yeah I actually I fogot to mention  that I was a reasonable distance behind the car in front, but I got distracted by a car full of women coming up on the outside of us... school boy error!

They turned out to be minging as well, just to rub it in a little more!  That will teach me a lesson!

Hopefully I will be able to get this mess sorted ok, at least the car is still driverable! Just hope the kiddy in the mk2 doesn't take the p*ss when it comes to fixing his car!
