Black Metallic VR - SOLD!

Recommended Posts

Nice work Dave, how does the 'new' foam compare to the old in terms of reinforcing and density?

The foam isn't as dense as the original, it's the firmest foam I could find at short notice. The spare bolster I repaired wasn't as badly worn as the one I took out of the leather seat so I didn't have to reconstruct too much. The foam I used is ok for smaller less worn bolsters in terms of reinforcement but if it's too far gone then it probably won't be dense enough.

Just a little peek at what is happening under the bonnet.

It's a really nice textured satin Black powder, looks better in the metal, thanks to Laser Mark for throwing the powder at it.

I hate you!

Really looking forward to seeing it at National Day. Especially love the wheels- been on the lookout for some for ages now, and just can't find any in 16". There were some on Pistonheads recently, but the guy didn't bother getting back to me :( . Do you mind me asking how much you paid for them?

Looks good Dave. Since I am far away from that show, I'll just have to look at this page ;)

That textured look, is that a special application technique, or a certain powder?

Cheers,

Redfox.

Redfox, its a certain powder.

We have 3 type's of black, satin black in a flat finish, satin black in a 'ripple' finish (some call it eggshell, but it could be described as like cellulite!) and finally we have the satin black 'textured' which is what we used on Dave's manifold and looks a little like felt.

All look really nice in different applications, but Dave has chosen the best for his manifold. So much so I've now got my eye on the box :)

To compliment my inlet manifold I needed to do something with the cam cover, apologies for the poor light, it looks way better in the flesh............

Yep, I'm really happy with the way it's coming along, of course it'll be back together for Stanford.

So I gave a clue to my engine bay plans with the manifold and cam cover, now that it's back together I'm absolutely over the moon with the way it's turning out.

I wanted to do something different and it's taken a lot of thought but I think I'm getting there now.

I'm in the process of fitting my full length scuttle panel which will tidy things up some more, will post up some pics when done.

Scuttle panel is now on, fairly easy swap except removing the old 3 piece is a pain.

One thing I would HIGHLY recommend doing is refitting the heater blower inlet rain cover as I could clearly see the mesh top from the end of the scuttle panel. Now I'm not sure if the manufacturer omitted to mention this in the simple install guide but I could see rain getting in there before long. You will need to trim it though at the bulkhead side as it fouls the scuttle panel. You can see it fitted in the photo, apologies for the poor quality.

That is very high quality work there Dave!

Supremely looking but not out of this world bling bling. Exactly how VW should have done it .

Cheers,

Redfox.
