junkie 0 Posted July 26, 2010 Yep they used to run 4.4 bar boost, they literally just got the old blocks off a pile and built the motors up.
Jim 2 Posted July 26, 2010 Jeez... did they not bother with a headgasket and head bolts and just WELD the head to the block?! :)
rado2 0 Posted July 26, 2010 missed it last night but saw it tonight was really enjoyable the veryon was amazing. and senna is a god and the f1 cars were the the best in f1 history in fact all the best cars were built in the late 80s to mid 90s but we already know that .
corozin 0 Posted July 29, 2010 LOL, I think p1ssing on the engine blocks is a myth BMW engineers use to wind people up with, but it's true their 1500hp F1 engine was indeed based on the humble M10 lump out an E30 3 Series! But reduced to 1500cc with a monster blower attached. I saw Nelson Piquet qualify the Brabham running that qualifying engine at Silverstone. We watched it through Copse, and then wheelspin up the hill in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Apparently the Brabham engineers had to clean the car out afterwards as Piquet had pissed his pants driving it. About 3 months later Autosport revealed the engine had been dyno'd at 1480bhp before they fitted it the car. It was truly an impressive sight on the track Interestingly though, it wasn't the fastest qualifier. Keke Rosberg beat him, setting the first 160mph lap at Silverstone in the process. His Honda engined Williams only had a piffling 1350bhp in qualifying spec. What a load of rubbish eh :?
coullstar 0 Posted July 29, 2010 Is it just me that wants Hammod to go. He's an annoying little man. Great F1 piece. Snowmobiles at the start would have wasted him. Ive ridden one in anger in Canada and it was one of the best days of my life, they accelerate faster than a R1!!!
8vMatt 1 Posted July 29, 2010 Snowmobiles at the start would have wasted him. Ive ridden one in anger in Canada and it was one of the best days of my life, they accelerate faster than a R1!!! I've been on the back of a snowmobile also in Canada and it was frighteningly fast  So only having one person on it would be even quicker, incredible machines
coullstar 0 Posted July 29, 2010 If I lived there that would be my hobby. Ones we had were 800cc 2 stroke  Anyway back on topic, just watched it again. The guys racing F1 in those days needed the big turbo's to carry there balls about :notworthy:
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted July 30, 2010 Is it just me that wants Hammod to go. He's an annoying little man. Great F1 piece. Snowmobiles at the start would have wasted him. Ive ridden one in anger in Canada and it was one of the best days of my life, they accelerate faster than a R1!!! He's not as funny as May and Clarkson it has to be said. He's likable though. His engineering connections programs I thought were pretty good. I went on a Snowmobile for the first time 2 years ago in California and it was immense! Incredible speed and agility you wouldn't think was possible on snow! Autosport revealed the engine had been dyno'd at 1480bhp before they fitted it the car. Amazing, and that was 2.5 decades before the Veyron's puny 1000hp! And from a 1/5th of the capacity. Mind you, it did need over 4 bar of boost to achieve, which is absurd :D
KADVR6 0 Posted July 30, 2010 Is it just me that wants Hammod to go. He's an annoying little man. completly agree, the stupid face he makes after he thinks he has been funny just makes me wanna punch him. and the reason he was hired in the first place is clarkson wanted somebody short as a co presenter so it made arse licking easier for them, so hammond got the job. Slimg60 0 Posted August 1, 2010 Now thats how I like to see an Astra GSi :D
CorradoVR6-Turbo 0 Posted August 1, 2010 I cringed when they brought that MK1 into play.....thought they would have killed it like the XR3i and the GSI but they didn't mark it .... phew!
Jim 2 Posted August 1, 2010 And there goes the only decent thing on TV for another few months. Not a bad show. Changed my opinion of the 458 now - thought it was pig ugly, but seeing it pound round the track made me appreciate it for what it is! And the £5,000 car challenge was pretty good.. whatever you say, those guys have good chemistry and the cheap car challenges are always good fun :)
Portent 0 Posted August 1, 2010 I sooo want a mk1 GTI. That looked like a Campaign to me. My first car was a silver mk1 Driver... it looked like a GTI outside but had a 1.3 engine and normal seats, etc. Loved that car.

Still would rather have the 997.2 GT3 RS than the 458 though.
Danny B 0 Posted August 2, 2010 Last nights show was a good one to end series....... Ever since the first 458 pictures were shown I always felt it was the best designed Ferrari since the 355.....absolutely love it and almost as fast as an Enzo Really enjoyed the UK car tribute, felt a bit sad with the TVR factory though, real shame they are not made anymore...........but Clarksons number plate joke was so good, had me in stiches  !! Kevin Bacon 5 Posted August 2, 2010 The 458 is a stunning machine and looked fast as feck in a completely effortless way. I want one :D TG always end the series on a poignant note, but they failed to mention the UK is still the world leader in race car preperation. F1, Rallying, off road, Karts and general design and manufacture of specialist components, we are the best at it 8) As emotive as the final scene in the warehouse was and I know what they were getting at with that piece, but I'm sorry, most of those cars were terrible. The British public wanted better quality at the end of the day. Britain and cars - imo, the biggest shame of all is how a country that had such a strong interest and talent with cars has been systematically beaten down to a nation of car haters by successive arsehole goverments and local councils. Only in a country that spawned F1 will you find 1000s of speed cameras....the f'in irony of it all.
