Annoying anti Corrado ppl i work with

I've driven various Corrados for the last 10 years, covering tens of thousands of miles and I've never once broken down - buy a goodun, then look after it and it'll look after you, use quality parts (OEM or better) and practice prevention rather than cure etc etc.

 

I personally think they're incredibly reliable going from my experience, people moaning about their 20 year old sports coupe costing them a few quid in maintenance is ludicrous really, how many other 15-20 year old 100k mile + cars do you see still on the road let alone costing their owners nothing to keep going? it's a bit unrealistic to expect that really :)

I'd take the Corrado easily, especially as it's Rob's (Heresites) tasty example :D Where is he by the way?

 

I like the Alfa's wheels and that's it. I can't stand biege interiors and I can't stand Bangle-esque body slashes either, or the headlights! I've never seen what the fuss with the GTA was all about. I don't like it, it just looks like a red door wedge.

Gimme a 147 or 156 GTA over that any day.

 

My youngest brother has a 147 2.0 T spark and my middle brother had it before him, it's been in the family for 7 years at least and it's been perfectly reliable. Alfa's reputation for poor reliability comes from the people who can't be arsed to fix or maintain them properly. They're Italian, they're quirkly, they need specialist attention and many don't get it.

 

Corrados are what Corrados are. Fickle, crumbly, 90s VWs....but despite their humble origins, somehow captivate their owners with tidy handling and clean lines. I have no special allegiance to the car, I just like the community it attracts and fiddling with the engine etc :D

Come on Kev, (older but not too old) Alfa's and Fiats are amongst the most hollow and plasticy feelings cars I've sat in, and I used to be a car salesman and have sat in a lot of cars! Corrado feels like a Sherman tank comparatively!

The plastics are so cheap, nasty and brittle, they make even a Skoda Rapid Super Estelle's interior seem like a Bentley's by comparison. VW use a schitt grade of plastic which doesn't handle repeated hot and cold cycling and as a result, when alarm fitters and keen DIY'ers start rummaging around in there, all the key mounting tabs etc snap off with the bare minimum of pressure.

 

Sure, the mechanicals and bodywork are strong, as you'd expect from a VW, but the interior plastics are just dire. End of story! :D

I can see why people would rather have the alfa over a rado, to the untrained eye you get nice wheels, pointy italian bodywork (in red makes it reminiscent of another famous italian sportscar), a lovely looking interior with stitched leather and modern dash....easy choice really, i too have looked at these in the past and thought how much of a car you get for your money.

 

But, i love my corrado. Theres just something about these cars that everytime i sell one i pine(sp?) after another untill i get one again. I love the interior of the later rado's, teamed with some nice leather recaro's would give the alfas a run for its money. I like the curve of the dramatic swage line down the side that only i am able to see out of all my family for some reason....."dunno what your looking at tbh stu..??"..... :lol: .....i like the flat chisel like front end, i love the spoiler and the fact it goes up and down :grin: ....i love the maclaren F1 mirrors ( :lol: )....but most of all i love driving it....and hearing that vr howl on full chatt, theres just nothing like it. :luvlove:

If ever I see another one on the road it just makes me smile...and I always wave if I'm in mine. Tried waving at other times too when I haven't been in the Rado forgetting and I get some strange looks....haha.

Can someone point out this 'awkward styling' the Corrado has at the front end, I just dont see it.. The corrado is a thing of beauty.

 

I like the Alfa, but i just cant see myself loving it. Though to be fair ive never driven one.

One drives a Rover 25. Need i say more.

 

One drives a Ford Fiesta

 

One drives a Caddy :grin: (he doesn't rip the Corrado)

 

One drives a pea coloured Focus with a duc taped door.

 

One drives a 300 odd brake Focus RS (TBH i think hes got the edge on me :lol: )

Im the same ive never got the whole Alfa fascination and again dont agree with the notion that you cant be a true enthusiast blah blah blah. I like them, i just dont have that passion for them that others do.

 

Though i do particularly like the 159 and even the Giulietta.

 

I try not be too narrow minded when it comes to the Corrado and VWs in general. I like other cars and other marks, but I will defend the Corrado where necessary. :D

A true engineers car is always going to be the best manufactured. This is without doubt a VW.

The Corrado is a car with aesthetics in mind...... it's timeless and unique... the other car cannot compete.

from my point of view the alfa exterior looks max powered.. but that is how they are standard isnt it?

if you did to the alfa some of the things that make the corrado so good looking (single glass headlights, rear spoiler blended into the bodywork, more subtle chin spoiler) then it would be a lot better imo.

I keep looking at mine when i'm walking back home and thinking that the headlight symmetry with the grill is really what makes the front. everything follows everything else on the C, it just works together.

that said, i'd very happily have the alfa's interior, the corrados is understated but the alfa's echos cars that are far more expensive.

Yep, the one pictured has a CUP body kit - big wing, side skirts, front splitter ........ but is in actual fact not a genuine Cup as they came from factory with half leather Recaro's - only 500 Cups were made and were produced in much the same vain as a certain Storm i.e. run out model to boast flagging end of line sales !!
