Recommended Posts

Nice one Matt, appreciate the effort youre putting in. Definately interested in the fibre glass, though prices of each will be when the ultimate decision is made.

Someone needs to give Dogger a big poke one this one, as I also would buy a set

Sorry but I will wait this out a little longer like the rest of you. These threads are entertaining.

sorry but has anyone tried this company:

http://www.pesch.cz/

there is a group buy on another forum and there prices seem good and the quality seems good as well. They guy has said he would make other parts but would require 3 or more of the same component to be ordered.

Dogger if your going to do a f/g bonnet/ wings and tailgate I would be interested.

I may have found a local company who specialise in cf and fg parts and do small to large batches. I'll try and get some more info from them.

It seems like all talk and no action when it comes to this kind of stuff. Between this thread and the other one on carbon fiber bits there is just talk and nothing gets built.

We can make fiberglass fenders/wings but I'm a bit concerned if UK buyers will actually buy... We have a clean set of VR donor fenders to use.

agree to a certain level dogger, in the past Ive tried to get carbon boots made up, I got to the point of having quotes made, and just needed people to commit at which point it fell over. I must admit I havent kept on top of this as Ive been busy as can be seen in my lack of forum posts lately.

However, carbon boot lids are probably not as desirable as carbon/fibre/kevlar wings. Maybe if you are able to make these you could give an idea of costs and those who are serious about having some made up (like me) will consider placing orders.

Wings/fenders will be in demand as finding metal versions in good condition is getting tough.

Do you have any examples of your previous cf etc results?

I think it's something of a vicious circle.. problem is it's a lot of money and no-one wants to commit on either side. No-one wants to commit hundreds of pounds on something they haven't seen, and similarly from your point of view dogger you don't want to commit time and money to develop a product no-one wants to buy...

Sadly there is a distinct lack of commitment these days though. I must hold my hands up and say I've been guilty of it in the past!

Personally I think carbon is ott for the car, it's hardly going to make a performance difference and the cost will shoot up.

Anything available in fibreglass though I would be interested in particularly doors, wings, bonnet etc simply from the appeal of knowing they will never rust.

Can I suggest a price list of parts and whichever we get enough interst in can be made?

Personally the UK market and this forum scares me from experience. We made RHD specific scuttle trays and windscreen trims with the impression from UK customers that they would sell. We did the initial group buy and sold 10 of each but since have sold none. It was a complete waste of time and resources.

As I stated on this thread before I would be willing to invest the time and money to make fiberglass wings. I really don't think carbon fiber or Kevlar would be the way to go. The increase in tooling costs would make them rather pricey. Whereas fiberglass we can offer at a very fair price. What has kept me from pursuing this further is people who post up saying they will make them or have a supplier to make them. There is no sense for me to make them if that is the case. We have a set of donor VR wings to use and my supplier is eager to make them.

I will get some pricing and also shipping information shortly. I think because of the size this will need to be a product that is shipped in multiples to make the shipping costs favorable to buyers.

Dogger does this mean, that RHD scuttle trays and windscreen trims aren't going to be able to be bought in a few years time? As I am building my Corrado project slowly and haven't got the funds to buy now but was hoping to buy after I had finished Uni? That said iff I needed to buy now I'm sure I could live off bread and water if needs be!!

I tell you this mate, having repaired the rust on one of my wings for the second time, I'd happily buy FG or Carbon....anything that isn't metal and keeps rusting!

Looks like I've missed posts on here for a couple of months. Our friend across the pond can't help himself with dishing out a few digs about these parts. It doesn't look good when you come to sell to people as it doesn't give them a positive impression of you. What you write is the only gauge folks have as to what you're like.

In answer to Dogger and my progress on this 'talk and no action'- I spent several hundreds of pounds buying wings, getting them media shot blasted and being sprayed in a few coats of primer. I took the risk to invest money in this venture. The carbon company I had talks with, was keen to proceed and then backed out as their business got busier and couldn't give this the time it needed. My time spent on this was for the good of the future of the car rather than material gain. There isn't much to be made from spending the required time to make it work. My day job is far more lucrative than parts supplying but I like to try and help to keep these cars going. I put in the hours and effort to help in the small way I do. I don't need cheap shots by someone who is solely around here due to commercial opportunites. The only reason people think they can get carbon products made cheaper are due to the extremel prices offered with no competition to bring prices into more reasonable lines. A captive audience and all that. At least when I sell a headlight switch, its with the best interests of the forum at heart and the cheapest I can manage.

Anyway, best of luck with your carbon work. It looks very nice. Try to limit your negative view about enthusiast's trying to keep a glorious car on the road and I'm sure you will go from strength to strength. I'll stick to my day job and not worry about seeing you touting for business on the Transporter forums seeing how VW doesn't bless the US with the T5.

Peace out buddy!

As it turns out, dogger was shown the door after making questionable comments about a member on the forum! Sorry to hear it didn't work out with the carbon work Matt - you obviously put a lot of effort into helping us keep our cars on the road, thanks to your sterling work on the headlight switches!
