Expansion tank bubbling (found the problem)

Recommended Posts

Well it looks like there is gases getting in to the water so it's the head gasket. (Nightmare:()

People have said " so what are you going to do? Sell it on?? "

What I'm doing is paying to get it fixed, it's to good to let go or break just because it need money put in to it.

It might cost big money but that's part of having a car like this.

Looks like I'll be keeping this one for a long time now lol.

Should I be getting anything else done when they are doing this??

Thanks Johnny

Chains, tensioner and guides. Not cheap though! A good inspection of chain at least, tensioner and mk4 guide upgrade almost certainly as they all have to come off anyway, so seems silly not to change em whilst your at it. Or you could do it all yourself for not much more than you would pay a garage to change the HG alone anyway.........

Sorry to hear I was right !

So wanted you to prove me wrong

Thanks mate.

I trust me I really wanted to prove you wrong.

But there is a good and a bad thing to come out of this.

Good:- I know it should be fine for a long time now.

Bad:- The wheels I want will have to wait til march next your now lol.

Hi all.

I'm a happy man today. My garage just phoned me to say they have found the problem and it's not the head gasket.

Turns out the 2nd water pump is :bad-words:

So should get it back tomorrow and saved £££££££££.

I'm so happy

if you dont know the last time it was replaced i would, easy enough to do especialy with the coolant being drained for the aux pump anyway, just make sure the replacemant has a metal impellar and not plastic ,

Indeed, as replacing them both will ensure much cooler temps and the last thing you need over winter is faffing about at the side of the road. a good flush out with new coolant too will help a lot.

Like you wouldn't believe mate.

Yeah wheels are still on but not til the weather sorts it self out. So prob march time cause I know if I get them now they wouldn't last a week in my garage before they are on. Lol

I got a price from felgenfuchs.de for 2 new alloy dishes to replace the 2 damaged ones and it was 260 euros posted

The 2 damaged ones could be repaired though, a set of stainless bolts are about £120

But a set of 3pc mls are around £1800!
