Regarding respray Sean remember you can only get passenger scraper seal's now driver's are obselete ( I got one of the last one's) I would make sure you have one incase you need it. Looking Braw by the way keep it up :thumbleft:

Got the repaired bolsters back last night and set straight to getting them back on the seat frame with new bolsters. Quality of the material and stitching is very good, but they are slightly off shape/baggy in a couple of areas I think. The guy did say if there were any issues with fitment he'd pack it out with a bit of wadding, as obviously the old leather would be slightly stretched and he didn't have the seat in front of him to make any adjustment. I don't really want to start packing it until its had a little time to settle though, and I don't think its all that bad tbh anyway.

What I mean't by it was if your taking the glass out of the door's and scraper's then they will probably bend so you will need new one's if your not doing a glass out no need to worry :thumbleft: I thought you were a :geek: Sean :lol::grin:

Just been to get the tyre fitted to the wheel that had the puncture, and the fitter spotted what I didn't, a crack! :pukeright: Ran around and managed to find someone who'd repair it. He stuck it on a rotating vernier gauge thing, and luckily its not buckled, so left it with him for repair. Contacted the guy who I bought them off, and he refunded the price for repair without hesitation which was good of him. Said he didn't realise, but the fact he didn't argue would suggest otherwise. That and the fact I know where he lives! :2gunfire: :lol:

 

Should have it back early next week for the tyre to be refitted, so it'll still be on the car and sorted in time for taxing at the end of the month, which is what I was hoping for.

Wheel back and on the car. Trying to adjust suspension height which is proving harder than I thought it would be as it obviously wasn't set correctly when originally fitted. Taxing next weekend after thinking about laying it up for the winter, but deciding I want to actually drive it! Trip to Brooklands for the VR6oc national day ultimately decided it, as I'd love a pic on the bank. Just hope weather holds off so I'm able. Maybe I'll give it a break next year...........

 

Since I got a set of front calipers thinking they were 288s, I've always been a little unsure. Found out last night that they are not, and are actually 280s after reading a post on ClubGTI.

Going back on ebay shortly and I'll try to find another set. Guy I bought them off said they came from a 97 Golf VR so assumed they'd be 288's. Apparently not. Hey ho, less than £20 delivered though so shouldn't lose out.

Corrado to the Rescue!!!!

 

Missus was supposed to be going down to Plymouth with the kids tonight, in readiness for a Wedding tomorrow. I have to stay back until tomorrow lunchtime because of work, so was getting a lift down.

Unfortunately, the Saab decided it didn't want to do the trip, and died on her on the way home from shopping. She managed to get it started again, but the engine warning light was on, and she had to crawl home in limp mode.

 

She was gonna take it down to a specialist today thats only a mile or so away, but it wouldn't start.

When I got home, the car that had been sat on the drive for the past 8 weeks came to the rescue!!!

I managed to jump start the car, and she drove it down to the specialist who can't get it on diagnostics until tomorrow, and who knows what it'll throw up. Sounds like its missing to me, so ignition related.

 

This therefore means that I've had to Tax the car today, thus loosing out on three and a half weeks tax, and we all have to travel down tomorrow in the machine! Not ideal, but needs must. To the rescue again!!

 

Is it weird that I was hoping to have to tow it to the garage, just so I could get a pic of a truly rare occurrence! :lol:

 

I actually spent a couple of hours trying to sort the ride height out yesterday too. Managed to get it all within 5mm each axle (as such), but it doesn't seem right as one of the rears is to the top, the other is about a third of the way down. Car is also pulling quite a bit to right which is gonna play havoc with the tyres no doubt, but I'll have to grin and bear it for the time being.

Not an update on the Corrado although I do have a proper set of 288s now.

 

A local guy from the Saab forum came round to read the codes for me today. It was coming up with low fuel pressure, and egr valve out of tolerance. I cleaned the EGR last week so that may of had something to do with that, but he cleared the codes and none of them came back. Still running like a fat bloke with asthma though, and he asked the question if it had recently had fuel added. I said no, but then the missus chirped up "yeah I put fifty quid in at asda. Oooh, it started happening just after that actually!" She obviously felt quite chuffed with herself for her input, until me and the guy both looked at each other before dropping out heads! "What" she says. I open the fuel flap and have a wiff, and yes you guessed it, strong smell of petrol! I then proceeded to fill her in on her "mistake", to which she replies "I don't think I'd do that, diesel is the Green one isn't it!?" :shrug:

Need to drain the tank and replace the fuel filter tomorrow. Hopefully that should sort it. :scratch:

You read my mind mate! I was even thinking of putting some sort of extra flap that she has open behind the filler flap, with a big "Black Nozzle" on it just to help her along! I've read a few horror stories about petrol in modern common rail diesels though, so I'm praying she hasn't f***ed something up good and proper!

Last update on the Saab I promise! Drained the fuel by disconnecting the filter (which was the only place as the filter is on the engine bay bulkhead) and kept priming it until it all came out. Replaced the fuel filter and topped up with 25l of DIESEL! and it fired up and idled fine straight away! (Thank f... for that!). It was booked in for MOT four days after the missus did it, so put it back in and it failed on rear beam brake imbalance. Swapped a caliper out for a recon pagid item from ECP and jobs a goodun!

 

I've now just gone and spent £500 on parts alone to sort it out and hopefully turn it into a car that'll last a little while. DMF, Clutch, CSC, Cambelt, waterpump and lots of service items which it sorely needs.

 

Wish the missus would let me spend that sort of money on MY car though! :(

As previous posts suggests, I've been concentrating on the daily a bit this month. I have sourced a few parts for the C though. None of it should really be priority, but most have been bargain buys so were hard not to! Rear Corrado Script badge to replace my very worn one, top door card trim to replace my very cracked one, driver window reg to replace my very slow one (although its got better the last couple of days), all red rears, clear jewelled side repeaters, and a few other odds and sods.

Exterior list is now almost complete apart from a splitter to replace my very broken one, and original aerial to replace the stupid shark fin thing thats on there. Its just paint then really. Interior is not too far away, just pillars "cough cough James"........ :wave: and furniture clinic kit for the leather. All that's left that I want to do mechanically is 288mm upgrade at the front. Got the calipers, disks and pads now, just need conversion hoses. Not sure if paint is gonna happen in the next few months now though due to the loss of car club for an unknown period, so nowhere to do it myself. Will just have to save a bit more and get it done properly. In the meantime, I'll probably start tearing the car down to get underside bits stripped and painted/powdercoated. I know I'm kidding myself tbh, it never really stops does it!! :shrug::lol:

Sean just spent a few hours last night reading this whole thread, very impressive, funny thing is it's written in the exactly same style as your uncle Tris, you both have the same passion as each other and I can honestly say that if I didn't know better I swear I could have be reading a project thread on CRX-UK...lol. We need to get him into a Corrado..

So, what's the score with the car club? Bought back few memories seeing your pics, I was in Collingrad for 'Tiffs' course (96-99) and was on the Car Club committee, spent many a 'duty' messing about in that club... Happy days.

Car club is practically dead mate. Its where I planned on doing a diy respray early next year, but its been closed down for the time being and no news on when it'll be accessable again. Club manager is on resettlement so not really interested and no one seems interested in taking it on when he goes in January. I've been told I can't do it being on course.

Noticed a fairly significant fuel leak today. Ive been really lazy the last week and have driven the short distance to work, which means the car barely gets up to running temp so I sit in the car (in the warm) for 10 minutes at idle when I get there. I noticed a smell of fuel first thing this morning but put it down to cold map giving it extra fuel. Came back from work and noticed a small puddle under the filter, and on switching the car on its ****ing out of the outlet from the filter. I nursed it home hoping it wouldnt go up in flames (its quite near the bend in the exhaust) and shut off, by which time its getting dark. I wont touch it now until the weekend when I investigate further, but I think its coming from the pipe just in front of the filter. Got home to a slip through the door from myhermes, saying package was in the back garden. Thought great, all red rears have arrived! Its obvious he threw the box over the 7ft high wall, and on picking it up, the rattling pointed toward something amiss! Opened the box to find that they'd been terribly packed for a start, (just squeezed into a box with no protection) and the top of one of the lenses is cracked, and the top and bottom of the black plastic lip is now broken on one. Ffs! Not noticable when on and it doesnt affect the operation, but its not the point! All in all, not a good day today!

I had a leak in the same place sean ,least its an easy fix . As for the lights , thats crap really mate .
