Blackberry Corrado (R32 powered)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, new to Corrado ownership! Although not new to Vw's :) (had various polo g40's, mk2 & mk3 20vt golfs etc)

Bought this Corrado last week off a friendly Corrado forum member!

Parked next to my current Mk2 20vt that I recently finished converting. N/A vs FI!

Overall the bodywork on the corrado is really good for the age, so I'm happy there. But there's various rust bubbles/ parking dents etc that I wanted to rectify.

IMG_3625_zps324ccadd.jpg

Rust broke through the paint and left the metal porous/ dimpled. So a few blobs of weld, and a good de-rust meant I could fill it properly. It's now in paint but I haven't polished it yet

There was a large dent from some ice? on the bonnet, so I scoured out the paint, straightened the bonnet edge line and filled it properly. Has since had finer grade filler, along with paint! Again, just need to polish & blend it in (Fun! :thumbleft:)

I am currently working on the back left arch blemishes, along with the front left arch parking dents. Have managed to get them out fairly well with the dolly & panel hammer. So should need minimal filling!

General plans to do in the next week or so are to tidy it up, re- underseal, re-wrap engine loom (have some proper vw stuff) and a few other bits. I am wanting to get rid of the Beige leather/ plastics from the interior if anyone wanted to swap for a black interior with black plastics?

Cheers, Patrick

Great work! nice to see a thread with work already underway considering how short a time you've had it. 8)

I was in discussion with Mic about the car before it went to you so very interested in seeing what you do with it, looks like it's defo got a good home :salute:

Glad to see this car has gone to a good home and amazing that you've done so much already! Always good to see rados getting the attention they deserve, especially blackberry ones! Welcome to ownership and the forum. Hope you enjoy...

Thanks! Hope to continue at this rate til I move back to Leicester in a few weeks. It is definitely with a good home, we've almost finished our garage so it'll be nice and dry too!

I had abit of time this evening so I did the A pillar plastic covers, and the map light surround in black faux suede. Trying to gradually reduce the amount of beige! :thumbleft:

Going to do the B/C pillars tomorrow if I have some spare time. Tempted to try my 9j borbet T's on, but I really like the standard speedlines- so may just put some spacers on!

Cheers mate, I'm really enjoying working on it. Yeah I love my mk2, always good fun and surprises alot of people! It used to be a vr6 before I converted it, so it's nice to have a car with the amazing vr soundtrack again!

Hey Pat, welcome to the forum!

Friendly bunch on here, some of them are even pretty knowledgable.

Loving the work on the car so far and looking forward to seeing what the interior ends up like.

good work so far, although the combination of cream leather and blackberry paint I find to be really very nice. I'm sure it will look superb when you finish though.

Thanks Mic! Proving to be a very friendly forum already! :) I do see what you mean Fla, but it's just abit too much beige for me haha. I'm hoping when I finish with the plastic trims, and centre console/ handbrake cover etc it should give a nice contrast between the beige leather & black trim whilst freshening the interior up. I could be completely wrong but we'll see! I'm just used to/ prefer black or dark interiors

Don't suppose anyone knows what spacers you can get away with on the rear with standard speedlines & 205 width tyres? I have some 20mm ones but think I'll have to machine them down more?

Mine has all black plastics/carpets etc with beige seats and door-cards and I can assure you it looks great :) I agree that all beige is way too overpowering!

Haha glad I'm not the only one then!

Managed to finish the plastics in the black faux suede today. Just have the centre/ handbrake cover to do to match the dash!

Must admit Pat, the pillar trims etc look excellent in black against the cream interior!

Hmmm, food for thought!!!

Thanks Sean! It's actually quite hard to make it out properly, it looks alot nicer up close in person :) Here's a better pic, I agree though I'm really pleased with the outcome!

I take my words back Pat - that really does look good. How did you stick the faux suede to the plastics - did you use any base material?

Cheers! :thumbleft: I left the faux beige leather that was already on the plastics and roughed the surface up with 320 grit; it just helped the glue adhere better!

Not much of an update as I'm living back in leicester, but popped up to my parents at the weekend to sell my mk2 20vt.

Tried on my 9J borbets, but way too much tyre poke and I don't want to mess with the arches! So I put the standard speedlines back on & fitted some 10mm hubcentric spacers on the front, and 20mm ones on the rear. Also finished polishing the bonnet where I got rid of the dent :) Going to refurbish them in gunmetal grey or similar colour as they've got corroded areas and paint defects.

Next things on my list to do are, lower abit more & sell the leather interior. Got a cage & buckets lined up for when it's on the road in summer. I'll also be removing the engine to clean & paint the block/ gearbox & a general clean of the bay :) Bought some vw loom tape to do the wiring as alot of it is bare in the bay

Cheers

How much will you be looking for the leather? I may be interested in taking it off your hands.

Cheers lad, love your thread by the way. Was scouring it for ideas  Bet you can't wait till it's done! Looks a great job.

Yeah it is running (apart from it's killing batteries, need to figure that out) but it's up at my parents in north yorkshire unfortunately so won't be at the RR day :( Hopefully there will be one in summer for me to bring it to! Might just bring the dci almera to the RR, show you all some real power :bonk:

On my first one the Boot Light was staying on after closing the tailgate for some reason so just took the bulb out - Might be worth checking?

Looks good on the spacers mate!

I've got some 25's and 12's, can't put them on yet though because the rear beam needs moving over!

Thanks GlosterOx I'll check that when I'm next in yorkshire! :) Cheers Chris, hopefully gives it abit more stability. But yeah happy with how it fills the arches in!

Did you put a new rear beam on? I hated re-aligning it on my mk2 after a put mk3 rear beam on..

No I've not changed the rear beam, only had the car a year and I didn't even notice it was so far out until I went to fit the spacers!

Long overdue update time;

So in march I got her insured and taxed etc on the road. 25 miles in this happened..

IMG_5018_zps42ee422c.jpg

Clutch pedal wouldn't come back up and also the crank pulley weight came off so it was vibrating alot. Had to try glue it on to limp her back home after getting recovered.

IMG_5039_zps8612236f.jpg

Thought clutch slave or master had gone as it was displaying those symptoms, So I replaced both with new units.

IMG_5053_zpscb02c752.jpg

So after I replaced them and bled the system about a million times with no effect, I was abit ****ed off as it was a new clutch. So i drove it with a slipping clutch for a while, got an oil leak so sorted it. Was the pressure sensors.

IMG_5087_zps32802982.jpg

Got the DDI dials working properly again, bad connection,

IMG_5090_zps106aaa8b.jpg

Got rid of the (not to my taste) 80's pornstar beige leather interior. Got a black cloth replacement, much better!
