I own it now

I saved it from being broken up 18 months ago from a guy who owned it Chatham.

Nothings really changed on the car apart from Ive fitted a double din head unit and modified the

dash, and its got a Cat1 alarm and immobilizer and a 17" team dynamics wheels in black.

I have no plans to sell it at the moment actually I'm planning a bigger turbo install and

02j diesel gearbox the current 02j ratios are far to low, and a set of Porsche front brakes.

Its in v good shape for a 20+ year old apart from rust around the top of the windscreen.

Thats being sorted soon and looking into getting rid of the sunroof and having a carbon roof fitted.

The sunroof has failed twice and leaks.

Ive been stopped and offered money for the car on the spot more than once

Awesome buddy, really glad it's still alive.

The gears were way too short, rapid off the mark if you learn to get the power down.

The sunroof was a pain in the ass to do, sealed (or not) with heaps of silicone.

I saw it with the team dynamics on and must admit I'm not a fan but if your happy then alls cool.

The brakes were all up rated after the engine conversion but only to what would fit behind 15 inch wheels.

How are the arches holding up? The liners were removed when they were flared and I used to spend ages every week clearing them out.

What engines in there now? The guy who bought it replaced it I think?

Any chance of some pics?

Wow man sounds great, so glad it’s lived on. Ko4 was always my intention but I couldn’t keep focussed on 1 part of that car so nothing ever got finished properly or didn’t have enough time spent getting it right.

It was a pretty erratic car to drive when I had it and never felt all that fast tbh. I think the guys that did the conversion ran outta time a bit, I was always supposed to go back and have them adjust the map and finish a few things.

I’d love to take a look one day if you’re ever near Dorset. Failing that get a build thread up on here so everyone can take a look, sure plenty of people would wanna take a look at a proper 20vt conversion!

Its getting there.

I must admit there was some wiring issues that made it run awkwardly when i first got it

over boosting limp mode cutting out while hot, and not restarting for a while

The first ECU crapped out after a short to ground somewhere

it wouldn't run the injectors properly after that and never worked again properly.

The MAF wiring was not at it best it looked as if someone had spliced the loom somewhere

in an attempt to fault find.

Its about 90% how i want it, the wheels need a refurb and it'll need a blowover at least.

I'm looking to refurb' the rear beam get it powder coated and stiffen it up with antiroll bar polybush's etc.

The 4 pots at the front with 300mm discs are much better, the G60 set up was good, but I Baked them more than once

on a track day, brake fade scares the **** out of me so out they came.

It still has issues with over heating its a very cramped engine bay now and 1.8t's I've known always run very hot.

This is being addressed by experimenting with extra ducting If I cant find a Carbon bonnet I've already got a late shape one Ill put extra discrete vents on it and fit that.

If I could source a stronger or reinforced front engine and gearbox bracket than the G60 one I be more at ease as I've broken 2 of these before

on a different car with extra horses, the engine then rocks about, in this car it would probably damage the Rad' and this would

be the difference between either limping home or calling out the AA.... again.

It is a diffrent car to when I acquired it, the then owner was going to break it up (he was more into bikes)

It looked like it had sat for a while.

It will be a pretty rapid car when all sorted, but saying that I've already broken 2 inner CV joints (Near Side short drive shaft both times, the cage broke apart)

so ill probably have to find stronger CV joints

Hats off to you Foster for the work and love you put into this car, Ill sort some photos soon

Funny as when I had it I had no problems at all, in fact it’s the only car that’s never let me down... ok well it did destroy the old G60 but once the conversion was done it seemed fairly solid.

I think the guy who bought it from me changed the block as it overheated. But I can’t be sure. Glad it’s gone to someone who’s more familiar with a spanner than me.

How are the arches holding up? Have liners been fitted yet? Always worrried after I’d had the arches flared that they’d rust through without the liners.

The guy who did the bulk of the conversion had a pretty immaculate mk2 golf with a VERY tidy 1.8t Bam conversion, looked pretty much factory fitted. I think he also did someone’s r32 conversion on here. The local vag specialists were always really keen for me to Revo it as they though the map was a bit manic. They uprated all the brakes after the conversion, I haven’t got a clue to what though. (Check the old build thread maybe) but I rarely used the car in anger so they seemed to haul up fine and were the best we could squeeze behind the bbs rms that were fitted.

Look forward to seeing it when you get a chance ;)

Thanks mate, car still looks great. Gold wrap in the engine bay looks great against the blue. Also dig the front with the eyebrow and grill. Must be pretty rapid now too! Stoked it’s being looked after.

underneath the heat shield at the back is a relentless manifold ceramic coated.

I had to cover it after ragging the car for a bit it was glowing cherry red and was staring to melt the washer jet pipes

and damage the paint.

The picture is fairly recent but has changed a bit since, its running almost how it should be

after months of experimentation.

I shall be tidying up the engine bay and fitting custom made pipework. There's a bigger intercooler in the slam panel

I had to cut the panel a little to accommodate the fans.

Because of how close the Rad is to the intercooler it was suffering from heat-soak on hot days

so i put a thin vented heat shield between the two. The Rad is stepped back as far as it will go and the fans blow in the front of the intercooler

and two fans suck air on the back of the Rad' with air feeds into the space inbetween rad and intercooler.

Also I'm in the process of sectioning off the air filter and cold feeds to that also

All the extra fans, double din head unit, amp etc was taxing the charging system so the alternator is now upgraded to 220 amps

The gearbox is an 02j EBF (diesel box) and is much much more comfortable on a motorway now, actually its 2nd one as the first disintegrated

6 months after i put the new engine and turbo in and got a bit heavy right footed with it. It destroyed 2 cv joints also (both the short drive shaft inner cv joint)

It is faster car now, the throttle pedal almost feels hard when you press it(its not harder of course its DBW)just it feels like only a smaller movement is needed

now to make it react a lot more. Ive driven a Subaru Imprezza P1 before the Rado in the dry feels as quick as that.

After a near miss with a mobile gatso I purchased an Aguri laser and radar detector, although I dont advocate speeding or reckless driving :-)

Ill put some more pic's up another time
