I agree totally, these are quite simple cars to work on compared with modern stuff, every day is a school day and what you learn today you'll benefit from another day.

 

A good way of learning is to take something apart that doesn't matter if you dont put it back together again, I'd recommend buying a car to break it for spares for this reason.

Cant belive you want to sell up after all you have done, as it would seem there isnt much left that could go wrong and then, im assuming your want to buy another car to replace it? which again is a risk as that one might need money spending on. once the brake pipes and fluid have been done could you not just drive it as you would any other daily driver and not care about any small niggly faults? just trying to understand your madness ;)

Fingers CROSSED, guys that she passes her MOT!

 

I only know the rear brake driver bulb blown...

That reminds me to look at putting in a bulb for the 2nd reversing light (as I like both to work and looks nicer :o)

My C s failed the MOT :(

 

I 1/2 expected that...

 

But ...didnt expect it needed a NEW cat :shocked!:

 

 

Another £1k garage bill? :eek:

Definitely worth checking the lambda, my emissions problems were fixed by a new one the year before last.

Before you go change the cat I'm sure you had a lambda sensor fault before, had that been addressed?

 

It was replaced at 1st garage ...

I did ask the garage "are u 100% sure?"

 

They said we are "90% certain"

 

I ll give em a ring tomorrow just in case ...

Ask them to check the wiring for the lambda sensor wasn't there another bodge there?

You need it plugged in to vagcom and have a look at the measuring blocks

So many bodges I dont know which ones we fixed and which ones we created thereafter! :eek:

 

 

I ll ask if they did a vagcom tomorrow too then ..

Thats why I am always worried other gremlins might crop up! :(

 

Got a headlight upgrade loom - i darent fit it

Got a BMC CDA - darent fit that!

Found a replacement sunroof on eBay - seller sent a different one!

Always planned to replace brake fluid - weather and schedule was never right :(

First job was to replace chain + clutch - but then got hit by the £1000 garage bill ...

 

Seller said roof does NOT leak!

It does

Hopefully "touch solid english hard oak" its not leaked since i re-fitted it

Etc

Etc

Etc

 

Its the BIG costs one after another thats draining my spirit right now...

Little ones and ocassional big ones is to be expected for older cars.

 

And how long I bad mine?

Is it 4 months and £6k afters? :shrug: :bonk:

it's very disheartening Wayne.

I have owned my car for 3 years now 85k on the clock when i bought it.

It run perfect and i mean no trouble whats so ever for the first 2 and a bit years and then it started to play up with all sorts of problems. Main one was when the radiator popped a leak.

This would have been a big garage bill, but fortunately tackled it myself.

Electrical problems when i need the car at 4.30am and it won't start is not wanted (my car is my daily).

I hope you may change your mind on selling as your car has had a lot of blood sweat, tears (probably lol) time and expense on it.

Having said this it is your choice at the end of the day.

I think you will be letting a half decent car go to someone else.

Hopefully with a major service, most issues "hopefully" sorted and just the odd surface rust and now a fresh MOT - it would be trouble free for a while ...

 

Maybe trouble free for years for the new owner ..

 

Then again maybe the next big bill will hit Wayne if he keeps her any longer looking at his track record :eek: :( :( :(

I know it doesn't help you but knowing your way around set or spanners or at least willing to give a job a go saves so much cash. I've not spent 6k in total on mine, probably only around half that and it includes the purchase price of the car! Considering everything it has had done to it, that can't be bad.

Update:

 

Just rung garage ...

 

1. They do not have VagCom

2. They did diagnostics and nothing came up ref lambda sensors

3. They not plug into OBD2 port yet :eek:

 

 

 

Just to explain why I take my C to this garage:

1. The Corrado specialist garage is far far too busy and more expensive

2. Ref my own garage, the RAC said "i wouldnt leave ANY car overnight in that area!"

3. It was almost 11pm, had kids with me and we missed dinner (was enroute to dinner at 8pm) and we spent all day cleaning our old house (after moving house) - so decided to drop C off at a local garage which seems reputable...

4. Plus having sold my 2nd car (1989 Honda Prelude) literally a week earlier - I have no car to fall back on :(

 

 

 

The current garage bill now stands just shy of: £700 ...
