What causes wheel vibrations?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have an annoying vibration at 70 ish mph on my rado. As with most things I like to think Logic will help me find the cause, but the usual suspects are not helping me.

I have had the wheels balanced.... Twice. Car tracked. Checked brakes.

What else could it be guys?

Worn drive shaft inner joints are a possibility Chris, make sure the securing bolts are tight too, soon... :)

My wheels were balanced and still did it. I took it to a local wheel specialist who can check if a wheel is running true or not and it turned out all 4 were egg shaped despite only feeling the vibration when over taking on the motorway. Got them trued and no problems now even when overtaking a bit eagerly.

I don't know why I think this but I'm sure that wheels are only balanced at 60 mph so more than that and the fault becomes more pronounced.

As sean said one of my wheels was buckled and caused wheel wobble at speed. Got one which ran true but still did it after being balanced by kwick fit. Took it to national car tyres and they balanced them all and has been perfect since.
