GUS 0 Posted July 19, 2016 As the late type VR6 grills only have one open vent, has anyone tried cutting out the other two to aid better cooling. Good to get some input before I butcher mine with my Dremel.

seanl82 23 Posted July 19, 2016 There are 2 types. The closed ones are for the cooler climates to aid in warm-up, and the open ones obviously for warmer climates. Have a search as its been asked before, but you may find one for sale that doesn't have them if you don't want to cut it up.
Jim 2 Posted July 19, 2016 Available from VW Heritage - though may be worth confirming they're all open-slat as per the picture! https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/corrado/535853653A/front-grille-late-type-corrado-genuine-vw/?crumbStartPage=1&crumbStartRow=
GUS 0 Posted July 19, 2016 Will give Heritage a call, but if anyone has a spare one knocking around let us know.
p0l1wrath 10 Posted July 19, 2016 I cut mine out years ago, can't really remember if it helped that much in the end to be honest. Quite easy to cut with a dremel and a bit of patience
subcool 0 Posted July 19, 2016 I recently bought one from Vw heritage and was the open type 😊 Sent from my HTC One M8s using Tapatalk

fendervg 33 Posted July 19, 2016 Probably worth addressing any general issues with the cooling system before butchering the grille! Check out the "definitive VR6 cooling" thread on here. What issues are you trying to address?
GUS 0 Posted July 19, 2016 No issues, just thought the more air flowing through the better, especially on hot days like today.
fendervg 33 Posted July 19, 2016 If it's on the move there should be more than enough air getting to the radiator. When sitting in traffic it's down to the cooling system and the fans. One slat more or less won't make a huge difference.
Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 20, 2016 i prefer the closed one as i think it lets less dust/dirt into the engine bay  Probably all in my head though
