To be fair, that's a good price IMHO... I paid nearly £300 to have my car corner weighted and that was purely labour costs at a local specialist garage... :| £165 for that little lot's not bad at all... 8)

was that the first time or have you had it done again sinse the rebuild??

I can get access to corner weight gauges remember, if you fancy getting it done a bit cheaper next time??

£633 is a lot of money to me - regardless of how much work was done.

I must now change both wishbones and the "big" part of my exhaust (apparently) has a hole in it, and is not secured properly. SSteel one? Any recommendations where to get it?

All of this will take the bill over £1K - "hefty".

Any recommendations on SS exhaust systems welcome.

first time, but I've had it checked and tweaked for free since the chip was done 'cos the guy wanted to have a drive and see what it was I'd built and he'd MOT'd and set the suspension up on! ;) 8)

I may well take you up on the offer soon though, 'cos I'm thinking of changing the suspension set up to something a little different... ;) 8)

Genuine VW rear and centre exhaust (they're all one piece, by the way) from the lovely GSF: £155 + VAT.

Is your exhaust actually blowing? The boxes are dual-skinned so a hole doesn't necessarily mean anything.

No, the exhaust is not blowing, but apparently, it's condition may be considered insecure due to one of the brackets not holding properly.

This would be an MOT failiure.

Gonna have a look myself tomorrow morning.

I must now change both front wishbones - any good advice here too?

Cheers :)

Why? Are they bent?

Wishbones from VAG are £58+VAT each, plus 2 x front bushes and 2 x rear bushes..... looking at about £150+VAT for the lot, plus fitting!

Just press some new bushes into your existing WBs.

GSF have wishbones for £40+VAT each -

they come with bushes on them (but not ball joint)

total = £93

How big a job is it to fit them ?

They cant be that much! Even for the Plus type wishbone surely not?.

mine were £36 each and come with the new bushes already in them, front and rear!

Admitantly, these are the mk2 golf type wishbones.

Yep the plus WBs are £58+VAT each  I don't think that included bushes, I didn't ask. But assumed not!

DtJames.....oh yeah I forgot about the GSF ones although some people have said they're not too good, for reasons I can't remember.

I will probably go with them if no-one convinces me otherwise.

I am not getting much advice on exhaust systems...I have been offered one (supplied and fitted) for £290 - Cat back SS. Worth it or should I get a Miltek? Why?

The choice is yours with the exhaust. GSF sell genuine VW parts (Leintz) if interested. You get the last two boxes for £155+VAT. The middle box is seperate. Speak to John Mitchell (16Vg60) about Milltek as he can do you a good price. Milltek are the OE replacement exhaust manufacturer for Rolls Royce and are top quality. I've heard one on a VR and you get a nice bassy idle tone and OE levels of refinement at higher revs. They are definitely worth a look and may liberate a few more horse.

Mine is holding on by the skin of it's teeth and will need doing soon. I've been speaking to John about a 2.5" big bore system (2.25" is standard) because on my MK1 16V I fitted a 2.5" bore Jetex and it boosted the midrange quite a bit. So worth a look on the VR too I feel.

GSF? You sure? My local one (Leamington Spa) told me categorically that they do not stock or order Corrado exhaust parts, and to go to VAG.

VAG wanted around 130 quid just for the rear box...

*EDIT* Just noticed Kev Hayward's post about GSF too...looks like I'll be heading down there and asking again...
