Is the oil warning light showing on the dash and any warning buzzers going off?

If not and it's only showing low on that gauge it could just be faulty wiring to/from the gauge

No none of the above are going off, only sign is the aftermarket gauge is reading low. Checked all the wires behind the dash to the gauges and all are connected.

Whereabouts would I find the oil pressure sensor on a 1.8t engine to check the wires the other end?

The sensor should be on the oil filter housing where the filter screws into

there should be a t piece to allow the two mk2 sensors ( temp and pressure) to fit the 1.8t filter housing

that's how my old one was but I didn't run a pressure gauge I'm presuming your gauge will be plumbed in round there too

Does the oil pressure light work on the dash? Ign on it should flash? and go off when running?

Yes it works as it should which makes me think it's just this cheap aftermarket gauge playing up

Plugged in a different gauge and all works so it was just a faulty gauge. Also been speaking to a lad at a garage I know who's mate has had 1.8t's, G60's, VR6 turbos and the current S3 engine in his mk2! So may have to have a chat with him about future mods

After saying yesterday "this golfs brilliant its the only thing I've bought that hasn't leaked oil on the driveway". I got in from work this morning to discover a plentiful supply of dead dinosaur juice on the drive.

Had a quick look underneath on my back and it's dripping down from by the bell housing. I'll stick it on the ramps later and have a proper butchers.

There were two oil leaks but tightened a joint up where the oil pipes connect and now there is only one, looks to be the sump gasket?d01730582914b79282b831cede6d134d.jpg183d19213aab486ad782a5bfaf3b27b9.jpg

There's no gasket on the 20V, its sealed with goo. Not too much otherwise it eventually breaks off and blocks the oil pick up.

Well you learn something new everyday, what sealant would you recommend?

Sump resealed and I've fitted new bushes and painted the GTi axle ready to go on, now just need to make up some brake lines.

The seal around the top of my oil pressure sensor has now decided to fail and is now weeping oil. Though can't find one similar and it's not a stock part as it's for an aftermarket gauge. Any suggestions best place to try?

The sender will be matched to the gauge so one from a different manufacturer will most likely give an erroneous reading on the gauge

Currently blanked the hole with a small bolt of the same thread to stop it spewing oil out and relying on the dash pressure light to warn me of any mishaps. Popping down to a place local to me in Buckley who are "VAG Remap specialists" to have a chat about mapping the golf. Planning to take it off the road come the end of the month as it's pretty pointless driving it in the wet as it spins up at every oppurtunity. And I don't fancy getting my chassis covered in frozen road slush left the grit wagons as its currently clean and I'm planning to waxoyl it regardless of the fact it doesn't see water.

Just been down to Ecotech and he reckons 210bhp+ on a stage 1 which I'm happy with dropping the car of with him Monday. This has got me thinking about brake upgrades, currently got 280mm brakes up front and will be swapping a GTi axle onto the back as it's currently drums, will this be sufficient for a young ruffian like myself to stop safely?

What brake upgrades are available whilst staying 4 stud as I've got 288mm brake discs, calipers, carriers but they're 5 stud.

Also I've noticed recently just how long gear changes are taking, so wondering what short shift kit would fit as it's a MK3 GTi gearbox but not sure what shifter tower assembly is.

Also got myself some TT wishbone bushes to fit.

Took the car to be mapped this week and found out it was overboosting and had a split in the PCV hoses. I was advised to replace the aftermarket eBay special dump valve with the OEM diverter valve and to replace the hoses and boost control solenoid.

Replaced the Boost Control Solenoid and hoses, currently waiting on an OEM DV so took the opportunity to swap my axle whilst I wait on parts. Started last night, all brake pipes disconnected and handbrake cable also. Just need to remove the bolts that mount it to the car itself then put the other one on and make up some brake pipes.

Been awhile since I updated the golf so here it goes:

After fitting my rear axle w/new wheel bearings/discs/pads and fitting an OEM DV I took the golf down to be mapped. Picked it up the next day and happy to say we've gone from 167bhp to 215bhp and 240ft/lb. The car properly flies now and is bordering on the dangerous side.

Not planning for any more power until acquiring an LSD as it does sometimes struggle to put the power down if my right foot is a bit too eager.

If money was no object it'd be getting an LSD, forged rods, K300 bbt turbo and a 3inch turbo back exhaust but currently I've got other things draining my bank so maybe next year.

Swapped out the cracked clear indicator lenses for some new amber ones.

Also painted the rocker cover with some VHT black paint. Planning to order some lengths of silicone pipe and replace the old hoses as some are looking rather tired.9b7c3767985d91b4fb097e89fdb21739.jpg

Allright Matt,

Exact same golf as mine mate, same colour, but mine was a '91 16v golf.

My 1.8 KR 16v mill was pushing out around 380hp running Weber/iaw injection around 15/16 years ago, I was still on the original brakes too..

Never forgot bombing down the motorway entering Rome's ring road at 4.00am and having to slam the brakes on hard 'cos a TIR pulled out..i was going at 240km/h.. I **** myself..

I reckon the max. you can go on 15" is by using modded Vauxhall meriva cdti 4 stud 280mm disks and Girling 60 calipers, 4 pot Brembo calipers would also be ideal.

I made my own 3" exhaust, front to rear, the difference between 2.5" and is very noticeable.

I don't remember If the golf g60 had the same gearchange as the corrado, my 16v had the older awful rod system, if yours has got the same cable system like the corrado, why not swap over the newer golf 4 set up?

The shift tower would fit the CBA(?) gearbox fitted no problem.

380hp?! That sounds mental! I've currently got 280mm brakes from a G60 so it's not too bad had a few brown pants moments before I changed from drums to discs on the back though.

I'll have a look-see at what sort of gear change system I've got tomorrow as not too sure. The cars abit of a Frankenstein with bits and bobs from everything.

Also not sure if I'll keep this gearbox as 60mph is at the very very end of 2nd gear so I'd prefer something like my VR which has nicer longer gears.

Also need to have a look at my loom as I've just turned the headlights on and the engine started to stutter and smoke appeared from the headlights switch which is v concerning.

Yeah, quite a handful..without any LSD in the original 020 2Y gearbox, which lasted 3 days.. Then a 4T off a gtd golf, fine once you stopped spinning but wiped out 2/3rd in no time.

Def. Get the electrical issue sorted mate, sounds dangerous.

In regards to your question about removing the corrado wing, just cut up or down the bead of sealant present along the inner edge of the wing. Don't worry about damaging anything as it's only the sealant present, no wires or other stuff that can be damaged.

I've tried to upload a few photos of a wing I have already dismantled so you can see where to actually cut the sealant, the photos are too big so I'll have to send them onto your email.

Send me it again mate.

Aye I'm leaving the Golf at home today taking the van instead last thing I want is it bursting into flames and causing chaos on the A494.

I'll look into it this afternoon, I've had a Google and it brought up a similar problem with the Corrado headlight switch which was solved with 200ma in line fuse I think.

I'll pm you my email now
