My first taste of VR6!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've had my VR6 for nearly two weeks now garaged as I try to sell Boj but couldnt wait any longer and just swapped the policies over today! After taking the car for it's first little drive I couldn't walk away and have been driving aimlessly about since 6pm - now 9pm. The car is incredible to drive - love the power and the noise yet it's so nice and comfortable driving at low speed too. It's easily the best car I've ever driven - simply amazing.

Any other people remember how they felt when they first drove a VR6?

yeah, I hated it!! no, really, it felt sh1t.......until I realised the c*nt had put 16v clocks in it, and I was actually changing gear at 4000rpm, not 6000rpm

the first time I took it to the limiter it made me grin for a solid hour. :D

I must have wasted about £20 of petrol just tooling about getting used to it - amazing experience. Really comfortable driving it as I'm used to my valver but the performance and feel of driving it was really different. I know I'm gonna love this car!

Driving 2CC's VR6 had a similar effect.. the noise and the go just make you laugh to yourself. Though I think its true of any bigger power Corrado really :)

I have to say, I was initially dissapointed with the power below 3000rpm, but in hindsight it's often said on here that the VR6 is lazy at low revs. But once I first took it over 4000rpm and that lovely engine roar kicked in I was in heaven

I now find myself taking ages to change gear just to hear the engine growl :luvlove:

I've had mine for a couple of months, and when I floor it, I still keep hitting the rev limiter in 1st & 2nd unintentionally  It just seems to hit the limiter way too soon (or maybe its because I'm used to my Golf, which used to scream at high revs to let me know it was time to change gear!)

Could see you were enjoying your wee skite by the cheesy grin filling the windcreen. Try a tenners worth of SUL from the Q8 in Fairlie to see how well it runs on 98 octane.

You cant beat the feeling, when u first try out a vr6, i must admit Golf's are what started it for me, but i had to have the Corrado version.

Roll on Saturday, 2 weeks of no car and gettin into my stealth spruced up Corrado is gonna be good stuff, may have to go home via London or Scotland in it. :D

Oh yes I remember my first run of a VR6.... it was a good friends mint Corrado Storm and was when I had my 16V.... it was a hot summers day and at first I wasnt too impressed as it felt flat but I put that down to the heat. But when I put my foot down it certainly went... was a bit reluctant to give it too much beans though as my mate is worse than me for looking after his car

Anyway thought nothing more of it till I smashed up the 16V... started looking for a VR6... inspected and drove over priced heaps ... not impressed when a few weeks later I come across a CHEAP VR6 on Ebay... contacted the guy selling it who was a trader and sold all his PX's on ebay as he is a japanese specialist he wanted the Corrado off his garage forecourt... fired all the questions at him and seemed an honest guy - even sent me more pics to show eveidence, etc...

Anyway 2 days later and £3400 (3yrs ago for a 1993 VR6 with 92k miles and FSH + 1 owner) and the VR6 was mine.... was now getting very nervous as had not seen the car...

Drove down to Nottingham with my other half and my mate to pick it up.... turned up - it was covered in mud  - not a good start - the trader apologised as they had not had time to clean it but said he was more than willing too if I left the car with them - had just drove 160miles so it wasnt going to happen... so drive it first he said... - started her up and sounded very sweet...got in with the missus and pulled out of the top of the road... let it warm up and gave it some stick through a roundabout and up a bypass.... ROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRRR... my missus looked at me and I met her eyes and we started laughing our heads off ... we were buying it end of  - closer inspected found a dodgy headlight, split front spoiler, two bald tyres and the dreaded swirl marks on the paintwork....

Paid up and drove home.... caining it all the way..

On my drive when I got home was my old 16V... ready for the rummage of spares  - so cost me nothing to fix (insurance co. were no wiser either) and spent a couple of days polishing to bring her like new...

22k miles later and I still grin like a 13yr old school kid seeing a porn mag for the first time when those revs rocket

I've long been a fan of the VR6 - but actually driving one changes everything... After I'd driven one for the first time, my mates disowned me because I couldn't stop talking about anything else...

One of my mates dad had a mint vr6, still mint now and i remember coming home from a night out in it and the car was fully loaded, even had someone lying in the back across people and it still pulled like a train and from then on i sold my little clio 16v and bought the car i have today, i still remember driving it home and it being faster in 5th than my old car could ever be in third, beauty. :D

I actually find 5th is a VERY flexible gear for some reason.... you can boot it from 50mph in 5th look down a couple seconds later and your doing 80 - 90mph!

I was pretty dissapointed by mine when I first got it. It felt slower than the heap of poo C reg 325i BMW run-around I chopped in against it. The speed of the VR wasn't really what I found appealing, initially, but more the smoothness, refinement and standard toys. I later found out the cam position sensor was out, so it only had 172 bhp when I test drove it, which explained the flat acceleration. £35 later and it was giving 200 brake and 193 pounds, and *then* I appreciated the speed
