Davina air con

Recommended Posts

anyone a aircon guru.

so I ran the engine last night and put the aircon on... not been used for a long time never been serviced I guess...

turned it off rapidly as their was a constant clink and clunk noise coming from the alternator area in the engine bay.. the noise stopped when the air con was turned off.... so air co related.

any ideas ? I guess the answer is it has lost all the contents of the airco system and needs a service...

anyone advice

Davina aircon, ha ha love it.

Noise from the alternator area would normally point to the compressor. Did the engine idle change when you switched it on and could you hear the compressor clutch engage? When mine was low on gas the clutch would not engage as the low pressure sensor was stopping it

Good luck mate

If it still has the original gas inside I believe its now banned? Replenishing with a newer more ozone friendly type means all the seals need to be replaced first? Its worth asking a few questions before commencing if you're looking for a long lasting repair.

I have changed a few parts on mine, but as with anything I always fit a new seal . I can't say much as I'm on the look out for a replacement evaporator, but it has always been recharged with the R134A.

If you haven't had any work done to it in a while, then the receiver drier which sits in front of the condenser would need replacing. £30 item but the front bumper needs to come off to gain access. I decided to replace my condensor (£100) and created myself a whole world of grief in doing so. It was 25 years old though !

Let us know how you get on

Do you have a contact for the parts, or maybe part numbers I could cross reference to my system ?

I'll dig out my receipts this weekend and post up for you

Struggling to sort my receipts, but...

I purchased my condensor from Autoaircon parts for just under £100 and delivered. It is a universal part SSP022301 that cross references to the Diavia item. Just be careful with the bottom hose connection....

And the receiver drier I purchased was a HELLA 8FT351199-011 OE £21.36 0ff Ebay. Again this is a universal item but I went for the branded item. I also purchased a mixed set of aircon O rings. What I am still trying to source is the replacement Evaporator.... no luck so far, but I will add to this thread when I have sorted it

Not yet. I have tried lots of places and only yesterday have left it with a different supplier to see what they can do. I WILL sort this. When I get the evaporator, I will be having new pipes as they aren't a daft price. I have already replaced a couple and was only charged 25 pounds for each one

Ok, so I have finally received a reply from webasto diavia....

We do NOT have any of these evaporators and will NOT be remanufacturing them.....

So, I'm going to contact some companies about making an exact replacement. If nothing in England then I'll even get the Chinese to help me.

If I can sort this and anyone else wants one, I will post up beforehand.

I won't be beaten

Isn't there something of similar size but perhaps different connections that could be used? I've got a condenser from a polo which is much smaller and will be getting some new hoses made for from perhaps pirtek. I guess something similar for the evaporator could be done?

I might have some good news with a replacement evaporator. Today I took the old unit to a manufacturer who is 3 miles from me... Unbelievable. He said they are going to 3D image it and get back to me. And he sees no reason why they wouldn't be able to do it.

So, fingers crossed and hopefully a sensible cost. I will keep this thread updated
