Cressa 44 Posted February 26, 2022 Just getting round to putting my steering column trim back on, now that I have the correct screws. It got me thinking.... the top part has a flap on it. Should there be something that keeps this pushed upwards when the steering column is lowered. Mine just sits flat, always has!
1xshaunx1 27 Posted February 26, 2022 There should be metal spring flap thing
Cressa 44 Posted February 26, 2022 Thar would make sense. Does anyone have a picture this.... I can't even find it on Etka 😡 Typical, that a simple corrado job kicks me in the b#lls
fendervg 33 Posted February 26, 2022 Have never noticed the spring loaded flap before - this is at the back of the top cowling?
Cressa 44 Posted February 26, 2022 ha ha, yes. On the late modesl with the adjustable height steering rack. I assume it must cover below the speedo dash area when the steering wheel is put at its lowest position and the flappy bit stays up..

Cressa 44 Posted February 27, 2022 Clam shell.... ha ha so true .I can't properly see the top adjustable part on the pictures And it's a shame they are NLA as i would happily replace them I assume if anything makes the top flap stay up it only comes complete with a new item. Unless the flap is supposed to fit into the bottom the dash somehow. I'll keep googling. Cheers for looking 👍
seanl82 23 Posted February 27, 2022 It's just a thin piece of metal in a V shape, with one side of the V glued to the 'clam shell' and acting as a kind of spring on the flap part. You should be able to fashion something fairly easily.

I did just look in the Bentley bible, but no help on that one I will have a look through all my bits and bobs to see if I actually have the part.... Just try fitting it without, I’d have took mine to bits and photo’d it for you but mine doesn’t lift up anymore, it’s fell off or broken. If it’s as it should be it’s just another point for plastic on plastic to make noise. I was looking at mine at the weekend after you posted and thought feck it, it looks alright and more importantly it doesn’t squeak or rattle.
Cressa 44 Posted March 13, 2022 Come on people someone must have a picture of this spring that I want to replicate. Had half an hour in the garage running the car up to temperature and said to myself, " I must sort this" 😊
James. 9 Posted March 13, 2022 I used some soft foam on one of mine. Springs back and doesn’t squeak.
