    Tip Off

Not mine I'm afraid though (mine was in a much worse state than that), Mine was an M reg (M85 XEM) had about 162K on the clock, Sebrings and was (Midnight?) Blue. Still, that's a bargin for spares.... Cheers, Tom
  4. Looks nice man 8) My old valver had the rear bench as well (in fact I thought they all did  ). You get used to it and it does mean that it's possible to fit 3 people in the back (at a pinch), or 3 people total and all the gear for a week at le Mans... Cheers, Tom

    Tip Off

Not sure if anyone on here has space for parts/cars etc. however, I was wrapping things up with my insurance company today, and found out what's going to happen to the car. It's going to be sold in an online auction through Holding and Barnes salvage ( http://www.hbc.co.uk ) in the next couple of weeks. I''d love to buy it back and strip it, but I've not got the facilities (or the knowledge or the time!). So if anyone's looking for a black interior, 4 sebrings, foglights and a decent enough engine, it'll be on there in a week or so (or so they told me). According to the site it costs £25 to register for the site for a year, but if anyone on here's a member already and wants it, Good Luck! Cheers, Tom
  7. stevemac, I'm not sure about the mileage, but I'd be suprised if it was approaching 162K like my last one... :)
  8. daves16v, unfortunately it's in Tamworth, Staffordshire, but thanks a lot for the offer. It's a little too far for me to travel, as I'd have to take a day off to have a look before the weekend (and there's no chance of that  ). I'm taking the insurance company's offer of £2250 (including excess deduction), and I've scraped together a little bit more, so a budget of about £2500 for a car, and £500 to get it checked over :) If I get a couple of hundred for my Passat, that's a bonus :) Cheers guys, Tom
  9. ....but I saw this on Autotrader, and I'm thinking of buying it and would value any opinions/comments. Cheers, Tom http://www.townsendcarsales.co.uk/_tcsderby.htm
  10. Well I've got a cheque from them for £2250, and I'm contemplating accepting it. If I reject it then I have to wait 8 weeks for a final decision that I have to accept, even if it goes against me. I can't find a late model 16v with spaceship miles on the clock to compare it against price wise though (162K miles :!: ). Time for a weekend searching autotrader methinks... Cheers, Tom P.S Livedin Yorkshire for the past 8 years, and loving it :)
  11. Wouldn't it knacker the Cat as well, or am I thinking of something else?
  12. Cheers for the replies gents. The car is destined only for a scrapyard unfortunately, as it's a category B write-off (although I WILL find out what scrapyard), therefore any offer has to be monetary only. I've already sent them copies of reciepts and photos of the car just before the crash (after about 2.5 hours of washing, polishing etc!). My only problem is that I have already rejected their initial offer of £2K, and their follow up letter that said they wouldn't increase it, so I'm finally at an offer of £2.5K. If I reject this one, then my case will be reviewed for a final decision, which is conducted independent of the Insurance company, and whose decision I have to accept. Supercharged, have you seen that anywhere in writing (eg. What Car, Parkers etc)? Cheers, Tom
  13. ...for modifying the value of a car above average mileage? A friend of mine said they'd seen a formula in What Car? or the like but I can't track it down despite searching... The reason I ask is related to the insurance company's offer. They say that the car is worth £3650 with an 'average' of 80,000 miles (according to Glass' guide). Their engineer has modified this to £2500 due to the high mileage of the car (161,000). With them having tried to get me to accept an offer of £2,000 on 2 occasions now (and by lying to me on the second occasion) I just want to make sure the offer is fair before I accept it. I was trying for £3,000 tbh as I can't find a replacement for £2.5K.... Car was a 2.0l 16v 1995 N reg. If anyone has access to Glass' guide and can point me in the right direction for the price stated I'd be grateful as well. Cheers, Tom
  14. My advice would be to not touch them with a barge pole... I had my crash at the end of August, and I'm still awaiting a satisfactory resolution...
  15. Well, after taking weeks to respond having stated that they would not be offering me any more than £2K, I had a phone call this morning saying they're going to offer me £2.5K... It's an improvement, but not good enough as I'm damned if I can find a '95 2.0l 16v for that price anywhere... Looks like this one is going down the road of offical complaint to the Ombudsmen [sigh]. Why can't they stop f**king about and pay me the price that I had my car insured for? :x Cheers, Tom
  16. Gutted. Good luck with the repairs... Tom
  17. Cheers for the tip-off Scott, mine expires in May, so I shall be changing it then I think... Btw, does anyone know what happens if you have an accident but have a protected NCD with regard to getting proof of your NCD? Cheers, Tom
  18. 220 on a tank? If that's the 15 gallon tank (which I'm assuming it is) then no. I could easily get 400miles out of mine on standard unleaded on a mix of town and motorway driving. I'm not sure what other people's views on the additives are, but I ran some STP (?) valve & injector cleaner through mine and it started running much better and getting a better MPG. I can't help with the others I'm afraid, so good luck! Tom
  19. Owner of the G60 **** TFE was a sound chap called Steve. I think he's on the Club Gti forum, but I mentioned this one to him as well. Cheers, Tom
  20. Bio-diesel? The stuff I use is basically recycled chip fat (98%) and methanol (2%). There's a local company round my way that collects all the used vegetable oil from takeaways for free (which is great for the takeaway), adds the methanol (something to do with combustion), and then process it by gentle heating. They then skim off all of the crap from the top and you're left with diesel, the only difference is that it's created from vegetable oil rather than mineral oil. Actually, tell a lie, the bio gives better power, less emissions, is environmentally friendly and costs only 70p/litre :D All completely legal as long as you buy from a supplier that is giving HM government a cut... The really annoying thing is that in the rest of the EU there is NO tax on it at all as it's a sustainable fuel, here there's a 20p concession. There are 2 types of bio out there though...that which I use, and that which is 95% diesel and 5% chip fat and priced at about 5p MORE a litre designed to con 'hippie types.' If you need a supplier, check out the farmers weekly website, or if you have a garage, scour the internet for wholesale suppliers or details of how to make your own... Drop me a line if you want any more info, Cheers, Tom
  21. ...and if you stay VAG and can find a local Bio-Diesel supplier, you'll be laughing (although other marques don't mind too much either, but VAG are bulletproof). Passat TDi, £40 for a 15 Gallon tank, 650 miles per tank 8) I still want my 'rado back though  Cheers, Tom
  22. It's not VAG...but I like it. I like it an awful lot. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 30184&rd=1 (Sorry about the long link). Cheers, Tom

    What to do????

Do it! Make the switch while you can get a good price for the Saxo, and buy a car that has stopped depreciating (as I keep trying to tell my insurance company  ). Cheers, Tom
  24. Happy Birthday man! Cheers, Tom
  25. Welcome to the site man, and good on ya for getting a 'rado, you won't regret it (although your wallet might ;-)). I'm afraid that I can't help with any tech type enquiries, but all I will say is don't believe all the MFA tells you. My 2.0l 16v C used to return about 22mpg around town according to the MFA, yet on a mix of driving (Dual Carriageway, Town etc) I used to get about 400-450 miles out of a 15 gallon tank. Cheers, Tom
