  1. Hello again,

I've had two Corrados over the years but more recently been audis etc.

Anyway on a whim I searched gumtree for corrado and found my old vr6 for sale! It is in need of some attention but all going well I should close the deal tomorrow night (after viewing it initially last week). I literally can't wait to get it back. It's nearly 10 years since I sold it (it was my uncles before I had it too). I'm hoping the forum is as vibrant and helpful as it was before, fingers crossed and hope you are all well.

    Cheers

    Paul

  2. guys thanks for the help.

did job at weekend - took a while as quite a novice but all hoses seem to be heating up now and water temp behaving itself.

tested old thermostat in pan of water and did not open.

just need to sort oil leak now - looks like it may be oil cooler seals.

    perhaps try that next

    cheers

  3. hi everyone

sorry for resurrecting such and old thread but have been searching about oil coolers as i think this may be where i am getting and occaisional drip of oil. changed thermostat at weekend so feeling confident!

I am planning on replacing the seals which i think are part numbers 038117070 and the same number ending in A.

Can anyone confirm these part numbers?

Also this thread has a good description of replacing seals - basically sounds like removing cover and then cooler - refit with new seals.

I read somewhere that there is no need to drop oil as it is above sump.

What about coolant? should i drop this out the car and then remove the hoses to the cooler before i do anythng else? or can i do all the above with hoses on?

    thanks again for any info

  4. Hi everyone

sorry for going over what is probably very old ground but just need a quick answer to a question.

My Vr6 (recently bought) is running hotter than i think is normal (105-110 water and 100-115 oil temp in normal town traffic).

I have bought thermostat and coolant to change at weekend to see if this is the issue but wanted to check something first. After getting home today i felt the radiator hoses and top one is nice and hot but bottom one decidedly cold so i am guessing water is not circulating.

Any ideas?? Could this be the thermostat not opening or is a water pump or something more likely to be the problem?

Could it just be an air lock? or blockage of some sort?

    thanks in advance for help

    cheers

    Paul

  5. "That's what i'm looking for at the moment. How do you find it and what are current prices? Saw one with leather, full screen satnav and the phone kit, with 80k on the clock for aroud £8k recently - is that a good price? Not bad looking, no Corrado though..."

They are nice cars - i paid a lot more than that for mine 7 or so months ago (60k and no leather - black with 18in 5 spokes) - that is why i have decided i need to keep it a long time to make the price drop less sore.

Now the corrado is here i have something else to play with.

Audi is nice and performs well - similar power output to Vr - looks the part too!

It did take a while to get used to 2 wheel drive after 2 quattros however!

  6. From my experience - i went from a Vr to a B5 S4 2.7 TT. A very different car but great power and acceleration - also good prices now.

Was a bit big in comparison to Vr and even with quattro i was aware of its size when cornering (standard suspension).

Then i went to an S3 - much more like the Vr and quattro good too - handled very nicely. Different sort of power though - it had a slight remap - not huge increase in power but nice and smooth and very useable.

Now i need a "family" car i have had to get a newer shape A4 s line (2.0 TFSI) so not too bad but just landed myself another Vr for me to use - loving it again.

It all comes full circle or something like that.

  7. Tried the above part number with dealers today and was told that it is obsolete with no replacement part number.

Anyone know of any other part numbers that would do the job - i think i read in a search that Golf ones would do the job - any ideas?

    Thanks again

  8. Hi everyone

Quick question about the clips that push into the door that the door card then screws into.

A couple on my drivers door are knacked from when the interior was changed i think.

Any ideas about where to get new ones - or another way to secure door card.

    any thoughts?

    thanks

  9. No posts on this thread in a while.

I have also not posted in a while due to numerous car changes but feel i need to mention something here.

I cannot think of anything worse than driving in convoy - especially one more than 2 or 3 cars long. So much concentration spent on looking at whether the guy behind you is still there. Concentration needed for other things.

Also i dont know if anyone agrees but the "tip" about staying in the other carriageway to show followers that the road is clear when overtaking!! I do not believe that i have read this on such a respected forum.

I would never rely on someone else making the decision on whether i put my passengers, my car and myself in the potential path of oncoming traffic.

Surely the first rule of overtaking is being sure that you and your cars capabilities will allow you to safely get by in plenty of time - no one can make this decision for you. And certainly no one can make this decision for numerous drivers with cars of varying performance.

    Just my 2p.

If i were to leave somewhere in convoy i would fully expect to not arrive in convoy.

    cheers

  10. ok guys just to confirm- gave the car a good 25 minute run using a fair amount of revs and the water temp got quickly to just above 90 and oil temp peaked at 110. Can i confirm that this is normal so i know new belt and everything around it is working fine.

    thanks

    Paul

  11. no on the mfa oil temp got to this when just sitting at 2.5k rpm. It does not usually get near that with that sort of driving also with hot air blowing into cabin.

The journey was only about 25mins long aswell.

am i just being paranoid or what?

  12. Hope you guys can help.

I posted about a whining noise the other day only to find that on my way to work the tensioner for the fan belt (power steering, water pump, alternator i think) snapped. Got all that replaced yesterday and now it is still getting hot very quick- eg 2.5k rpm brings up 100 degree oil temp when engine is under load. That was with my hot air blowing. Any adeas - is air lock a possibility or water pump knacked?

    cheers

    Paul
