  1. If you have been told the shaft is shot that would mean a new outer CV joint as the splined bit that goes through the bearing is on that? Don't ask why I am posting this at 4 in the morning!
  2. Hmmm....assuming the rear ones? Either overdoing the torque..Ie none or there is wear on the underside of the stub axle outer bearing face.........?
  3. STORM2..........£88+ each. I won't need to worry where they came from. I have new pads and disks anyway so will try just the calipers and see what the pedal is like. If horrid will put Mk 4 pads in.
  4. V-Tech..........KILL. Lasted all of one rotation at least
  5. Took the plunge and went for new calipers from VW (Had to sit down though). Stealth recon ones from a Mk 4 1.8 GTI are the ones and the part numbers match those of a Mk 4 Tdi. These are the part Nos but I haven't got them yet so I will tell you next week if they are correct. RH Side-1J0615424F. LH Side-1J0615423D. Stealth will be getting hoses some time next week.
  6. Ok.......also saw your post about the Audi ones. Ta
  7. Kev, just phoned VW about Mk4 rear calipers and they listed several types. Do you know the part No. for them? Ta
  8. I know it was a hot topic a while ago but with all this talk of lowering our cars it might be a good time to remember to adjust the rear brake bias valves before everybody screames that their rear wheels are locking under heavy breaking!! I did a search but could not find a conclusive answer on exactly how to set it. Should it be just about to open as the car sits unladen? Thanks in advance...
  9. Classic bearing symptom. Changed a rear only to have it go again very quickly due insufficient grease. .......and a cr%p bearing to start with.......
  10. Isn't it lucky our cars all do the same thing. One thing I found when mine leaked was the fuel perished the wadding in the fuelpipe channel under the car. Bubblewrap did the trick.
  11. Don't you just love V-Tech bearings,GSF :x Road noise turned out to be a rear bearing. Oh yes, I hear you ask, the same one I changed at the start of this sorry tale. It failed as I was working my way through diagnosing the noise so when I had changed all four the noise was still there. Luckily I had not gone for the new tyre route. Toyo T1 Ss I have on are OK. Blox!
  12. Hense the 'million answers to that one' reply. Take it easy and work through the likely scenearios.
  13. Ok, great. I did swap front to rear and made no difference so will change two at a time and see. Now, what to try next................!
  14. This the first time I have used them, hense the post. They are nowhere near the limits yet and wearing down really evenly. Ice White...I will await your outcome. I had a front bearing start singing a while ago and it felt fine. Changed it and the noise went. It's not raining too hard today so under we go... :)
  15. Losing the plot here! Has anyone who has these tyres had a bad noise that sounds like wheel bearings come on gradually towards the end of their life? Got about 2 mm legal life left. No flat spots or any obvious damage. Done bearings and noise still there. Comes and goes when cornering. Drive shafts not knocking at all. Ahhh! Cheers.
  16. Welcome to VR6 ownership! There will be a million answers to this one. First will be to get it on VAG-Com to see if there are any fault codes in the Engine section. My VR did the same and it turned out to be the ECU relay, £12 from dealer. Worth changing anyway if it is more than seven or so years old. Likewise the fuel pump relay. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight= Hope this helps!!
  17. And make sure the socket has a rubber ring inside as a plug dropped in to the plug holes can find their way into some interesting places! Ahh....experience!
  18. Bit between the steering wheel and windscreen. A light smack on top with the palm of your hand might unstick it. About 20% of the time mine needs a slight bit of encouragement to wake up...
  19. Coilpack from GSF £120+. £180+ from dealers. Same part. Just had same problem, cured it.
  20. If it is stuck in the 'Ignition off position' a smack on the combing unsticks mine! Good luck..........
  21. Just dragging this back into the daylight! 94 VR6, which circuit controls the fuel pump run on system? I have not armed my alarm/immobilizer deliberatly to make sure it does not interfere with the fuel pump and it still takes ten or so seconds for the car to start from hot when it has been left for just over ten minutes. Does the fuel pump run continuously whenever the engine is running and for how long after the ingition is turned off? Don't think my one runs when the key is turned off. Thanks in advance!
  22. Engine missing? And before any smart a*&^ says, I mean a missfire :) Mine had a habit of doing it every now and then. Ignition usually the culprit. Coil pack had a crack in it. Bit of J B weld seems to have done the trick.
  23. I had to adjust the handbrake cable after changing the rear pads and disks on my vr. In theory shouldn't need to....but.
