  1. Whenever i've re-built any

vw engine i've never put back

    those two bolts hidden within

    the gearbox's bell housing

and i've never had oil leaking

    from there,the bolts are pigs

to get out,but just try gettin

    them back in again without

    cross threading the holes.

    Not worth the hassle.

  2. I've made my first corrado's

engine using a kkk24 turbo lifted off

an american spec. audi 5000 turbo,

good turbo, quick spool up and easy

to instal using a golf TD moddid ex. mani.

Then i fitted a 16v head to the PG block

and used a Garret T3/4 turbo lifted

    off a delta intergrale,exellent preformance

but quite laggy when using a large intercooler.

    Now i've built a 2000cc 9A G60.16valver,when

the car comes out of the bodyshop i'll let you

    know what differences ther are.

  3. Check the coil connections first,

(green wire),it might be the actual

    instrument that's faulty,try tapping

the cluster next time it happens,

may also be a dodgy contact on the

    back of the cluster.

  4. Right,

    attach your sling/chain to the

lifting hook located(should be) above the alt.braket

on the cyl. head then either rap it around the exhaust mani.

or directly to the gearbox mount braket.

There are no AF nuts on a corrado, those

exhaust clamp nuts are compleatly rusted on,go get

    oxy torch...

Yes,you can jack the front up from that

position, use a block of wood to spread the engine/gearbox

weight and keep an eye on the engine's mount,

once while i was jakin up my G60 with a hyd. engine

mount,it came right out, spraying smelly hyd. oil

all over the back of the engine!.

  5. The difference between the

4x4 and 2wd cosworth is substantial,

    50% increase in in size,but there's

an even BETTER 1 than that,Get 1 off

    an escort cosworth,inter/charge cooler combined...

    No worries about inlet/outlet diameter,i

was pushin nearly 2 bar absolute turbo press.

with previous engine,Don't use crap intercoolers

simuler to the OE corrado 1 such as Ren. 5 turbo,

Fiat uno turbo, golf single pass rubbish, above 1,3 bar

    the ends pop off.

!6 vaver golf turbo's can use the Lancia delta intergrale

intercooler because of the smaller water radiator fitted.

  6. Be VERY carefull when timing

up the cams with dots as markers,

sometimes they may SEEM to be aligned

when in actual fact their out by 1 tooth,

result, the engine turns over by hand when

you check but when you start the engine

it sounds like a diesel engine that's been timed

wrong,The valves kiss the pistons but doesen't

do any damage, the pistons will be only lightly

touched and the valves don't bend(1 tooth out,2, goodbye valves..)

It sounds heartwrenching,How do i know?,First hand experience....

  7. I've fitted an Iveco TD

Daily van intercooler to my corrado

when i had the turboed' 16valve motor,

compared to the previous Lancia delta intergrale

intercooler there was a significant pressure drop, quite

    noticable.

It's not an easy swap, one has to modifiy the front

valance, move forward the radiator, shift the batt. to the

boot, cut some framework...all in all not really worth the major

    hassle.

    1 intercooler i tried was ok,it came off a Renault 21 turbo,

I connected it under the car with minimal fuss, the 1 itercooler that is

exellent is the sierra cossie 4x4 intercooler, but is quite difficult

to find, over here in Rome that is.

  8. Allright peeps,

I've just removed all the glass

from my corrado,i noticed on the

    windscreen about 5 small plastic

    spacers inbedded in the screen's

mastik, does one have to re-use these

    fragile afterthoughts??,chime in anyone,

    Cheers,Andrew.

  9. Hi alan,

    Right,

    The blue/white wire normally

found near the dist. is a spare

wire used for an optional oil

press. gauge, the wire goes to the fuse box.

The brown/white wire should be for

the fan/Temp. switch located on the left side of

    cam cover.

Blue wire's for the Alt. signal to dash LED.

Brown socket's for fuel temp/pressure sender located

on the end of Injector rail, hope this helps mate.

    Regards,Andrew.

  10. Up 'till now i'm on my 4th

    corrado,on all of them the

    brake pedal has always slowly

sunk to the floor when pressed

    continiosly,engine running or not

    does'nt make any difference,

the cars all had ABS,quite strange...

    Yes the systems all worked/braked

perfectly,no air in system,no fluid loss

I can understand 1 car having a defective

ABS block after 15 years but 4???.

    Anybody else experience this?.

  11. Hey potatonet,

    I've finished my

    9A g60.16v motor with a g60

    compressor,i've left the engine's

    compression ratio stock,i still haven't

had time to fit it back in my car yet.

Anyway,if your interested i've got loads of

    1800 'KR' pistons/rods+G60 piston/rods,

you could use the 'KR's' pistons and stock rods,

mill 2mm of the top of the piston to form a small

bowl shape then offset the small end bushes in the

    con-rods,you then have ~8.1CR.

  12. Has any one else had to

    change their corrado's engine

and gearbox mounts as often as me?,

this is the third bloody pair i've had to

change in little less than a year, always

the same damage, ripped open bolt holes.

Granted,my motors were often used in anger

but why always the same thing?, the rubber parts

are always sound it's the bolt holes that are found cracked...

And yes they were bolted down tight.Anyone?.

  13. Strange,i've never encountered

    any problems on other engines

when using 84mm pistons in 81mm

bores, and i'm talking about heavily boosted

    small engines,the difference with,say, a fiat

uno turbo engine(1301cc) and a Vw 8v block

    oil ways,coolant galleries is not a lot,their

    quite similer.

One could say that about trying to turbocharge

    an M3 bmw(new shape),that can't be done

because that engine's bores are maxed out already, one has to use the

    2.8 block,not the 3.2.

Anyway,if you do go ahead and use these pistons

the most important thing is that the boring work

has to be done very accuratly prefrebly using a

    heated deck plate.

  14. I've checked the clearance

with a G60 metal head gasket,

    there's plenty of saftey margin,

I used to fit Lancia Delta intergrale

pistons(84mm) into fiat uno turbo engines(81mm),

    1301cc into 1500cc,using a normally asp.

delta head gasket with no probs, exept broken

    gearboxes...

    Struan,that you mate?,

if you do decide to fit the pistons

try to get hold of a deck plate,

    heat the block/deckplate THEN

bore the block, plateau hone/flex hone etc,

You will have NO oil/blowby probs.

And the piston/rings will hold 1.8 bar turbo

    press. no problem(with correct tuning..)

  15. Drain the filter housing

first by un-doing the allen key'd

metal nut located in the center of

    the black plastic filter housing,

this avoids oil spillin out the moment

you remove the canister, the metal nut

is usually quite tight. Also check it's small

    rubber 'o'ring.

  16. ....Which reminds me,I still

have a spare gear box off my 4th

    corrado left...

If the damage turns out to be un-economical

to repair consider my spare 'box off a 16valver

that i bought that has stood 8 years still,

    66000km(32000miles?) on the clock.

I don't need it 'cos i used the engine to

    turn into a 16vg60,so i used a TD 'box,I can assure you it's perfect.

Let me know if you need it and we can work something

    out.Cheers,Andrew.
