1. Been working on my Corrado all day today but i need a bit of advice on a couple of things, before i can pull the lump out. The main engine harness plug that is mounted just behind the coilpack, how do you disconnect it ?? ive had the motor out before but one of the lads who worked for me unplugged it, he isnt around now so do any of you guys know how to do it ? I dont want to damage it. Jimmi........................
2. Crazy dave wrote I am happy with the power mate, but it needs work on the mapping side, the curve on the dyno sheet is like that of a 2 stroke GP bike ! The gearbox has a Quaiffe fitted and a bit of a rebuild to make it fit, the Clutch is an uprated one but id rather have a tiny bit slip in it when the power was too much rather than overloading the box. The Turbo on it is pretty laggy as well so the engine is revving when the boost comes on which is a little more sympathetic to the drivetrain !!! Jimmi.......................................
3. Bad news dude, what you doing with the dead motor ? Im gonna send you a PM Jimmi................................
4. Its one of the bolts that holds the front bumper on mate, they are about 4" long, dunno of the part no. tho. should be okay driving for a while with it missing tho. Jimmi...................
5. Radostorm wrote Thats very similar to the one i have designed but i have made the plenum area more boxy as opposed to the tube that one is. Jimmi................
6. There is any amount of possibilities, but something in the middle of the length of an oe & a schimmel would make sense. you would have the best of both worlds !! And if the TB was on the side as per the pic Radostorm posted you wont have any heatsoak probs !! That one is a good idea but i would of made it a little tidier and without the TB hanging down. Hmmmmmmmm more ideas !!!! Jimmi................
7. Update time guys, Been 2 months since i posted anything in my gallery and a lot has changed !!! The turbo install was finished about a month ago, it wasnt really a bolt on job as you can imagine but i did get there in the end !!! Car is awesomely fast, and has a lot more potential in it. I ran the car for a couple of weeks on the roads to run the engine etc in and to sort any teething problems (which there wasnt really any) i played with the boost and the car went really well. Huge wheelspins when the boost came on in the 1st 3 gears and even some in 4th if it was damp !! I ran the car up on the dyno about 3 weeks ago, it easily made 360whp with a lot more boost in reserve but the headgasket blew, i was using a copper EIP one which have gave problems before ! I drove the car home as it was only a minor leak, i am not really concerned as i need to do alittle more refining to the setup as the power curve was really peaky, and it means i have a few months to get it 100% sorted now. I have cleared a place in my garage for the rado where it wont be disturbed over the winter months, my plans for it are as follows; Remove engine and replace Head Gasket. Clean and re insulate all wiring in engine bay. Design and build a SRI & IC pipework. Remove carbon canister setup. Design and build Ram air system from Bumper to Turbo. Fit Samco Hoses Remove & powder coat/paint all suspension/steering components. Paint engine block & sump. The interior, either Audi TT,S3 or Golf R32 seats are planned. Replace the awful Koni coilovers. Im sure i will think of plenty of other things to keep me busy along the way as well. Im undecided about which Managment system to use as yet but because that will be one of the final jobs i have plenty of time !! Anyway here are some foto's below for you to take a look @, ill update the thread as i go on with foto's of the rebuild. im not really a "show" person but i might head down to E38 next summer with the car so some of you may see it there.
8. Im reading this thread with interest, the management side of my car is one of the things i am 100% unsure about, which is why i need to research it as much as possible before i choose which set up im gonna use. The computer side of life has overtaken me somewhat, the computers i learnt about @ schoo, bear no resembelence to what we have today (im not old either, just turned 28) ! yeah i can do anything i need to do with my PC but when you guys are talking about programming your car it goes straight over my head !! Ive spent my working career working on sportsbikes with my hands, means im handy @ the mechanical side tho !!! Jimmi........................
9. madvr6 wrote The ISV will be retained if you wish, its only a matter of putting a 20mm vacuum outlet on the Manifold, you will need some different lengths of rubber hose to connect it up though. I want to retain my ISV so when mine is finished i can tell you exact hoses etc. My car has been blowing the the plastic box part of the ISV in half when the boost was turned up so ive made a trick looking aluminium one which some of you may be interested in. KADVR6 wrote No i havent seen a C2 one mate, have you got a website for them ? There seems to be a bit of interest in this which is quite good, i have made two plans up for making them, one uses the very bottom of the stock inlet manifold as a base, the small part which bolts to the front of the head. doing it this way will make it even cheaper,@30% but i'd have to have your part back in exchange, or you could get one from the bay or on here for next to nothing. ill post up in the wanted section to see if i can get a couple of them. Both of them will work exactly the same and i know the one that is cheaper to manufacture and pass on will make more sense !! jimmi.........................................
10. Ive designed a Short Runner Intake to fit my VR6, it is very similar to the Schimmel one but this one will allow you to use your stock radiatior fans. it will be OBD1 only and will use the oe fuel rail. It wont be some bodged together thing either, i weld motorbike frames & other parts every day and know what im doing, so the quality will be A1. I will be making mine in the next month or so and seen as Kev's Schimmel group buy seemed popular and was a good deal it was obviously still a little too expensive. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in one of mine if i was to make a batch of them, they will come finished in any colour of your choice (even metallic colours to match your body) , ill even make a decent donation to the forum for each one sold! Price will depend on quantity as i need to have the intake body flanges machined, which is expensive. if i could have 5 made (inc mine) the finished SRI's would be £300-00 including delivery. I wouldnt expect anyone to say yes ill have one without seeing one, so all i expect is for 4 or so people to say yes i'd definatly have one if the quality was right then i'd order the flanges and make mine for you all to look @ before you commited. i hope you understand what im saying, any feedback would be welcomed. This may not be the right section but if any mods want to move it feel free. jimmi.......
11. Its definatly blue smoke then ?? not greyish or white ?? Have you or anyone recently topped up or changed the oil on it ? jimmi...............................
12. Sounds like youve got a rare corrado there mate, one that fixes itself !!!! None of the ones ive owned have ever done that !!! I'd be expecting the problem to return soon enough !! jimmi..............................................
13. My Rado is my worst car, but also my favourite !!!! Use my Vito van every day durin work time, and the G/F's Diesel 320ci for most other stuff, Shopping, Pictures etc !! My cars and bikes are used purely as toys, i have no real use/purpose for them, my garage is like a great big toybox !! M3 is away until next year now and im really missing it already, Corrado is a little poorly and is due for a makeover this winter, im really gonna miss it but its gonna be worth it !!!! Jimmi.....................
14. So what do you do now ? Walk everywhere ??? You must be Nuts !!!! jimmi........................................................................
15. Yeah i also live in Sunderland and i sold it to Will in about 2001, it had done 68k & was stone mint, i think i sold it for about 10k i loved that car, id like to see it again !! I had to sell it to raise capital to start my business, it was the only motor i have "had" to sell so ill always remember it ! However i suppose it helped me move on to bigger and better things in the end though. I always said id buy another, i bought a 64k miler VR last year as a second car which ive just fitted an EIP tuning Turbo kit to so i suppose L690PBD has a lot to answer for !!!!! Ill keep an eye out for it !!!!!!!!!! Jimmi..............................................................
16. Purpley-corrado-dude wrote Yeah i was the 3rd owner of your car mate, the guy you spoke to must of owned it before me, i put the wheels, suspension etc on it back in bout 1999-2000 i also had a trip to Nurburgring in it as well !!!! Jimmi........................
17. eatthis wrote You runnin 10 psi ? watch out for the scooters !!!!! Ha Ha !!!! 24v, 12v ? if you have nad$, go for it i say !!!
18. Hi dudes i need to fit a boost gauge & an oil pressure gauge to my corrado so i need to get 3 lengths of silicone hose from the engine bay to the dash area, where is the easiest (&shortest) way to get it thru to the centre console ?? i had a right doo getting the power cable for the amp thru the main harness grommet so there is no way ill get anything else thru there. Anyone got any suggestions ??????????????????????? Jimmi..............................................
19. Cheers dudes, thats that sorted then !! Nice one Dinkus, i wont need to change wheels if i have the brake clearence which is good new cos i like them !! The rear discs are solid ones so they will slip straight on, the TT i got the brakes off had only done about 6k miles so the rear pads are virtually new, ill put them in and it'll save trying to squeeze some brand new ones in !!!!!! Lock this up now if you want, Cheers Jimmi......................................
20. Right then ive just had to move the Corrado to the other side of my workshop to get my M3 in the garage so it can be cleaned and covered up for winter, its foggy and cold today up here, autumn has certainly arrived !!! I reconnected the FPR and adjusted it so the pressure was on the minimum setting, the car fired straight up so i adjusted the regulator so it shows 58 psi @ idle, when the car is revved at stand still the pressure gauge rises by about 10 psi so ill leave it fitted it will probably rise more when under load. ill look into getting one of those schimmel ones sent across from the US. I took a quick pic of the engine bay wheni was looking @ it this morning, ill do some better ones when its cleaned and all the hoses are tidied up !!
21. Yep ive read those, wasnt keen on putting washers in on the front calipers to space them out so i machined some one piece spacers up and im gonna use them. I wanted to know hew much further "outbound" the TT calipers will be than my standard VR ones. I also need to know about the rear TT caliper fitment as well !! jimmi..........................
22. First off i have used the search and cannot answer my questions exactly !! I have been in the process of Giving my VR a little more go in the engine department, the suspension side of the car is sorted but i need to make it stop a little better !! Ive bought some 225 Audi TT front calipers, Discs & carriers for the front and ill be fitting these this week, i have one question about these, i only have about 10-15mm clearance inbetween my original 288 brake calipers and the spokes on my 17" wheel (this was with brand new pads in) am i gonna have a clearance issue with the 312mm set up ??? I also got the rear discs and calipers from the TT, will these fit straight on or will i need to make up some caliper carriers ??? Cheers Jimmi.....................................
23. kevhaywire wrote Im running external wastegate kev, the kit came with an EIP exhaust on it, you can see on the picture below, you can see on the picture where pipes attatch to it, so if i leave the top one to atmosphere but then the side one to a vac, ill find out if its pre throttle or not today. Ive put a picture of the FPR below, its the yellow pipe (smallest one) im trying to find a home for, i think it will go into the side of the inlet manifold just like the stock regulator which is on the fuel rail. The dump valve mounts to the inlet pipe about 10" away from the throttle body it then has two inlet/outlets on it, ive pictured it below i need to find a home for these. Boost controller, i have a mechanical one for now where will this plumb into as i thought it would go into the top of the wastegate. ill see what the driveability is like with it and if its a bit fierce ill buy an electronic controller. Ive found everything pretty easy going up to now with all the mechanical side of it it makes a change from working on bikes thats for sure !! everything is sorted and fitted to the car now all i need to do is work out where these pipes for the boost pressure etc go and the car can go back on the road. weather is foggy up here today so i cant do any painting so im having another day on the car. it might be on the road today ???? Jimmi........................................................
24. Hi car cleaning fans, ive got a quick question for you guys. Do you know of a product to polish a vehicle quickly ?? its not a prob with my cars as it only takes 30 mins to wax/polish (i use AG super resin or Meguirs NXT) them its more for my van, its a dark metallic blue and leaves loads of watermarks on the paint if i just leave it to dry and it never really looks shiney if i just chamois it & leave it so i always end up giving it a coat of polish which takes around 90 minutes because of the size of it !!! my last van was silver and i could give it a quick onceover with mr sheen and it wouldnt show the scarms up but this one is near to black and it scarms real bad !!! What would be ideal is a multi surface product i could clean the whole thing with, (its all colour coded so there is no bare black plastic) i can remember using something called zoig years ago which was ideal but ive never seen it for ages. 25. Kev Haywire wrote The Strange Rover (picture below) definatly isnt a daily driver, its a 3.9 V8 with straight thru pipes, hideously noisy tyres & 5" suspension lift. Its "interesting" to drive on the roads as it wanders about like nothing ive ever driven before !! But i keep it taxed so i can use it when i fancy terrorising people, it is unbelievably capable off road and ive had some good days out in it. peoples faces are a picture when its cruising around the streets covered in mud !!! Oh and as you can imagine its not that hot on juice, the worst mpg was £120-00 in one day, i only covered 180 miles, (140 cruisin @ 45-50mph rest off road) !!!! I built it up myself from a standard green RR Vogue last winter, they are horrible, horrible things to work on and i dread anything goin wrong with it because i dont want to use whitworth sockets ever again !!!! Still undecided on which car too buy, been usin the M3 today and i dont really want to have to put it away for the winter, i wish i lived in the states or somewhere !!!!
