I can do it at work... We have a pro- video editing setup.. :)
-
Did you put him right by telling him that the Corrado wasn't so much a replacement as the Scirocco's bigger brother? ;)
-
The VR actually puts around 400kg on each front wheel, so that 530kg limit above gives plenty of room for fat blokes in the front of the car.. :) Interesting info that, though.
-
And you'll lose the passive rear wheel steer.... As discussed a bazillion times.. :)
-
If you've a VR, removing the exhaust altogether would still not make it sound like a Nova!! Having said that, it's OEM all the way for me. Everyone always says "it's a little louder than OE but not much." and that little is too much, imho.
-
If you're looking for a cheap diesel it simply HAS to be Puegeot/Citroen. Cheap diesel from any other manufacturer means incredibly unrefined, incredibly loud, and incredibly slow. Puegeot got it right years and years ago. And the TD variant is actually pretty pokey, particularly in a small Peugeot car - they're pretty light. Oh, and the other bonus - the insurance is almost free! Group 5 or less even for the TD.

In a none-too-subtle way! LOL

Ah yes, as soon as I wrote the above I had a nagging memory of angel eyes...
-
Why do you want to stop it happening? It was deliberate, so you don't get pulled over if you have a dead sidelight... :)
-
Not really, most VBR implementations aim for an average bit-rate that matches your requested rate. That means you get a file that overall is approximately 112kbit, so it uses the same space, but as you say, sounds better simply because it can reallocate those bits to where it needs them most. All win, no lose. This is what I'm saying - for a given bitrate, VBR is all gain. There is no drawback!
-
You can't reduce the play in the rack, you have to replace the rack... There may be an adjuster for some of the older non-PAS racks, but I don't think any Corrados have adjustable racks. The play is probably wear in the pinion bearings, or wear to the rack or pinion themselves.
-
Interesting. For the same bit-rate I've ALWAYS found VBR to be a vast improvement over fixed. Have you compared both using the same bitrate and the same encoder? Fixed bit rate always makes treble sound mushy and like it's underwater. Horrible: particularly if you're not giving it more than 120kbit to play with. 112kbit is awful, but the same files encoded to 112kbit (average) using VBR are usually much more bearable.
-
Most likely you're seeing play in the steering rack. Are you sure nothing happens though? No wheel movement at all? Not cheap... But it'll stop the car from scaring the pants off you while you drive down country lanes, so gotta be worth it, IMHO. The bounce might be normal. I've got one thousand miles on my VR's Sachs Advantage gas shocks and they do bounce in dips. (These are identical to the Boge turbogas.) I'm running standard VW springs.

Got the performance mods, but where is the performance?!
dr_mat replied to Jimbob1970's topic in Archive
Ha - the VR6 is the same. Ok, shifted up another 40lbft across the range, but still this duality. Stick a Schrick on it and you're talking though... -
Fine if you have one to hand. If you're at the side of the M40 at 2am I doubt it'll be that easy! I tried using a housebrick once, but it collapsed under the weight!!!
-
Oh and the G60 pump won't work on the VR6, and some Golf GTi models with ABS have a different pump unit too, so be careful what you're buying - match the part numbers up! (Ok they might work, actually, but they are NOT a straight swap.)
-
Did they tell you the exact fault code? The ABS systems do suffer from sticky valves from time to time. Most of the time they'll be ok, but then occasionally they'll stick during use or during the self-test. It could still be the electronics controlling the unit, or the wiring itself tho. It's a git to track down, right enough.. :(
-
The GSD2s do have a central band of sorts, but it's not a completely solid line like the GSD3s and tyres like the Proxes and so on. I will probably try some RE720s next time round (when I've hooligan-ed away the front pair of F1s..). The only drawback is I really think the F1s look cool....... :)
-
Most of us can remember snow, but we decided to stay at home and watch the test card on BBC2 that day instead of trying to get to work in the awful weather...
-
I can see what you mean with the GSD2s, Kev, but as these are the only *decent* tyres I've had on the Rado, I've not got anything to compare with. There is noticeable "wiggle" (technical term) if you push the car sideways on the sidewalls of the Goodyears, I imagine there are other tyres that don't do that. My previous car did the same thing though - it had a full set of Conti Eco Contacts on it - primarily cos that was what it had when I got it, and in 45,000 miles I only had to replace a single pair of them (I sold the car with 60% tread all round too!). They also, coincidentally were quiet and low rolling resistance. Wet grip was awful, but then, it was a Vauxhall... :)

Ah, ERR21: the drug addict's nightmare: ENONEEDLE
-
You can re-encode them, no trouble. I assume you've found such a utility? Only trouble is you'll lose more quality by doing -> 320kb wma then -> 192kb WMA than you would have done by going straight to 192kb.. :( You could of course transcode them to 320kb MP3, which will lose less detail... (but still not perfect). And there's DEFINITELY no point in using lossless encoding when they've already been squished with lossy encoding to 320kb! :) If you have the option of VBR in future, I'd definitely recommend it. Everything (even mp3) sounds much better with variable bitrate than without.
-
Mine has a full set of Eagle F1s and I've been very pleased with them. Bags of grip, even in the wet. Very even behaviour on the limit, no grabbiness, just a nice smooth break away that's easily detectable and caught... :)

205/50/15, and yeah, it's Goodyear Eagle F1 D2s only. The 3 isn't available in that size.

VR6 - Reg Plate 'M*** TRE' - Clamped in Bristol?
dr_mat replied to Krusty's topic in General Car Chat
Someone may not take too kindly to their number plate appearing on a public forum in full. Data protection, and all that. Tho we appreciate the sentiment, probably better to obfuscate it....
