Which is "around 1.1mm". Depending on how "around" is around.

Couldn't tell you exactly how many turns there are on the standard wheel/bolt/hub set-up but I can tell you that subjectively it seems to be a lot more than just 5!!
-
There's two separate circuits - the run-on circuit will probably trip the same relay as the ignition-on circuit, but it'll source it's signal from a different point in the system. Hence the run-on works as expected, but the ignition-on doesn't. Sadly I don't really know any more than you about where to start looking for problems with the ignition-on circuit, but it'd be a good place to start by going through all the fuses in the box and making sure they're all ok.

I think most people have the same thing - a connector with wires in it, but no contacts in the tubing... Mine certainly has, and mine is the later type of inlet manifold (solid tube with bellows). I've heard it's something that was only necessary in extreme climates, so it wasn't active on the European VRs.

You're based in Reading too? What colour is your VR? Maybe I've seen you about? There's a coil that sits inside the steering column, near the ignition switch, that reads the RFID tag (equivalent) in the key - if the key transmits the right code back to it, it unlocks the ECU and the car will run. If not (i.e. wrong key or no key at all), the ECU will kill the engine and prevent the car from being driven. This is exactly the kind of thing that would show up on VAG-COM. These things are common failures on pretty much ALL the cars they were fitted to, after a few years of use and abuse. Where did you take the car to, btw? Ridgeway (I hope not!)?

k738 bud ?

I was toying with the idea of offering him £5 for it...
-
Presuming you meant "found" not "foing" I had the same thing a few weeks back. It wasn't just me, all the cars up one side of the street had their wing mirrors folded forwards (towards the front of the car) on the *pavement* side, so clearly not a car... No damage done, so no worries really, but it's a bad sign...

There's a brembo kit on ebay right now... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/ebayISAPI.dll? ... 2479256986

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 2245560567 Possibly the most desperate attemp to inflate the value of a normal plate I've ever seen... "Great number plate for all you VW VR6 fans. Here is a great chance to personalise your car with. The number plate is L6RVW, which reads VR6 backwards and also has the nice touch of reading VW at the end as well."

Sorry, only repeating what other people have said - I've not done it myself, but from what I'm told you have to undo the top rad hose, and fill by pouring the water into there, leaving the lid off the expansion tank at the same time.
-
She works the spoiler...?
-
I've heard that you *HAVE* to fill up via the top rad hose, rather than through the expansion bottle. (Counter-intuitively.) That's the only way to avoid airlocks .. in the top of the rad...

I would say that if they're drastically different, he'll know pretty quick in the handling that it's not right. If they're pretty similar, it's probably not worth changing them unless he wants to upgrade or they are looking dodgy. As a general rule I don't think anyone around here would advise fitting mismatched shocks on a car, so god knows how they wound up like that!
-
I think the trick is simple: fit new front/rear bumpers just before you sell the car on. Otherwise just drive round with scratches and scrapes...
-
Presumably they'll have different damping rates. Handling might be a bit "interesting", but I doubt it's more dangerous than 10-year old shocks, as long as everything is good, and not leaking/bouncy etc etc.
-
Is the coolant circulating? If you leave the expansion cap off and run it for a few minutes does anything weird happen..? (From a cool engine, obviously.) Could it be the thermostat? Is the rad getting hot all over?
-
Not if one brand is SACHS and the other BOGE, as they're made on the same production line by the same people...
-
Show me a Corrado that's appreciating at all!! And no, I don't have a storm.. :)
-
I've seen about 10-20 RX8s now, just around the Reading area. Too common for my liking.. Mind you, there's a similar number of Corrados too. (Though not that many of them are VR6s.)
-
Perhaps it indicates the colour of the traffic lights you go through on? ;)

There were rumours that optimax was reformulated at a lower octane rating a short while back. I've not looked at my plugs, but I tend to alternate between Optimax and BP Ultimate, so that might not be a good indication of anything anyway. Good news on your cylinder bores though, let's hope mine holds up the same way!

They are getting a bit too common - that puts me off... They do look good in the metallic grey colour tho... :)

Arse! my insurance is up for renewal next month.

Unless it burns... FC is almost worth it for replacement windscreens to most people! -
There's four tatty ones on a Golf GTi in our company car park... No locking nuts either... ;) ;)
