    Pushing the boat out, kev?
  2. Looking forward to finding out if you get a new steering rack on, and if that sorts a few things out, kev!
  3. I know where you're coming from chrishill, but the £N thousand for an M3 doesn't go very far in buying helicopters... As for £20k scoobies, they're cheap as chips by comparison. Buy ten, it's still not going to buy you a decent police chopper, and it'll certainly not pay for the fuel/insurance/pilot training/maintenance required to keep it in the air every year.
  4. You mean buckled or the rim's dented? If it's buckled (i.e. not running straight) then it's almost certainly impossible to repair properly.. :( If it's just a dent in the rim, should be fairly easy to straighten out.

    VR6 vs 330Ci

What's the recorded wheel HP on your car then? Not saying you're spouting BS, just curious how the figures pan out. Given the nature of wheel dynos, and the way they extrapolate back up to the crank through your drivetrain, it'd be interesting to see...

    VR6 vs 330Ci

That's what I mean. Despite VW's best efforts to produce another average 2.9 VR6 lump, they freakishly produced a car that's 20bhp up on "norm". Hell I'm pretty chuffed with 201bhp, even with the Schrick on my 119k miler anyway.

    VR6 vs 330Ci

No, he just has a freak engine from the factory, apparently...
  8. It's not ideal, cos they might have variable damping rates, which means that running lowered puts you into the "stiffer" damping range of the shock by default. Dunno, it all really depends on the details of the damper. If the manufacturer says they're ok to be used with the lowering that you're running, then it'll probably be fine. 30mm or so isn't a big drop anyway, so isn't a big deal, I think.
  9. Didn't think the pedal position sensor was anything more than an on/off switch? But it's still useful for the ABS system. If you have uneven road wheel speeds, and it doesn't know whether you're braking or accelerating, it doesn't know whether to ABS or attempt to lock the wheel..

  11. Sounds like you need a new aux belt tensioner... That and the water pump are the most common failings on the aux belt components. It might also be worth sticking a new belt on there, to see if you've just got a glazed belt slipping somewhere.
  12. The new 1.8 mondeo is no power house (0-60 in 10.5!).. But 130 horses it is, and that's at 5500 rpm, not 7000 rpm. Catch your C off-cam and it'll certainly embarass you, given the relatively small weight difference. (Coupla hundred kg.)
  13. Mileage is about 80k I think, from last time I spoke to Asim. It's a nice motor, no question. Personally I'd take the steering wheel and the rims back to standard, but it does look excellent anyway.
  14. Italian cars. That's the way they are, unfortunately. A mate has a Cinquecento Sporting. Yes, a very cheap, small, easy to look after car? NO! Almost as expensive as my VR6 to run! He's had to have the gearbox rebuilt after 53,000 miles..
  15. A lot of people have said that the 3.1 overbore is a little close to the limits, and can be a bit unreliable. Up to you, but if you're going that way it's something to bear in mind. Cheapest fix is definitely to pick up a 2.8 and rebore it to 2.9 and re-use your existing crank/pistons and 2.9 head.
  16. Unbelievably the insurance on the GTV is EVEN HIGHER than the Corrado VR6. Better make sure you're 30+ yrs old and have a million years no claims...
  17. I suspect VW might have stocks of new ones, after all, it's the same motor as the later cars, IIRC. But most third party people only deal with recon units, yep.
  18. The missus 206 picked up a nasty bit of paint damage on the bonnet about 6 months back now from a turd that hadn't been removed in about 30 seconds. (Damn the paint is thin on Pugs!) She crashed it and got a whole new bonnet on the insurance in order to fix it... ;) ;)
  19. Jeez.. Did you GSF the starter motor? They sell genuine Bosch refurbs for around £100. Very good quality stuff.
  20. I was interested to receive a quote from a guy at an "RAC approved" accident repair centre where they'd put the paint colour down as "metallic black". Which was wrong, for a start.... Find a local place that gets business by word of mouth, never trust your insurance company unless you don't care... As for reversing into things - Corrados have absolutely *abysmal* rearward visibility - the back end is so high...
  21. It's the subtle, disappear-into-the-background, camouflaged ice-grey-violet paint job, isn't it! NOT!
  22. Renault and Peugeot both had similar troubles with their big V6 engines a year or two ago. I don't know where the blame was placed in those cases, but same thing, spontaneous stalls resulting in loss of brake, steering assist and numerous other electronic/assisted systems on the car. They did get slapped on the consumer programs about that.
  23. Pity you didn't get a Storm...! Ha! Not! :) But if you ever wanna sell her... Give me a shout.. :)
  24. I have to say I prefer the OE oval...
