  1. Does the 16V have a lower crank sensor or flywheel sensor or something similar thats reasonably low down on the engine? It certainly sounds to me like there's a minor problem with a critical sensor (something like those I listed above!) thats causing the running issues. Possibly water in the connector or some freak of water pressure has pushed the connector off. Have you checked the lambda sensor connections? It doesn't sound terminal and doesn't sound particularly major - do you have a code reader you could plug in, or vag-com?

    ABS rings

www.vagcat.com says yes - I cross referenced the ABS ring for the valvers against the ABS ring for the mk3 Golf (I went for 94 models on both), and as long as the Golf is 4-stud then yes it will fit.
  3. I wouldn't say mine is uncomfortable, but I can't get the steering wheel in the right position! The perfect position for me is with the wheel right in the middle of two notches on the adjustment, think it might be time to go for a solid column and shim it to the right height. I've got leather and the seats themselves are great, plenty of adjustment but as has been said they do 'hug' you quite well so I find it best to take my coat off once I'm in the car - may be a bit cold this time of year but it soon warms up with the heated seats on :)
  4. 8V's are great, I can confirm that as I bought one as my first Corrado back in September. Apart from the usual lack of maintenance by previous owner issues, its all great, and in fact I'm just in the process of replacing most of the front suspension to make it even greater! If its the white one in Wales that I'm thinking of (with the white chin spoiler?) then it might be worth doing a HPi check on the car. I'm sure I saw a thread around here recently (can't find it on the search) saying that a white 8V on eBay was actually a cat-D write off which hadn't been declared by the owner in the advert. Now that doesn't mean anything particularly bad as cat-D is generally light cosmetic damage such as bumpers, lights etc - enough of an expense to the insurer to not be cost-effective to repair, but not bad enough damage to take the car off the road. Bear in mind that with used car prices at rock bottom, the trade price of a Corrado 8V is probably in the region of £500-£1000 maximum, so it wouldn't take much to write one off if you factor in the cost of replacement parts + labour + any paint etc. I think it could be a great bargaining point if it is the car in question, I just think it'd be worth doing the HPi check to be sure. Hope that helps, sorry to sound like a bit of a doom-mongerer, wasn't my intention! Let us know how you get on :) Tom
  5. Sorry, I didn't make myself exactly clear as I got mixed up between my male and female connectors (ooh er) Anyway, the wiring to the fan has three wires - slow speed, fast speed and earth. The fan itself only has two spades, and is only switched on when the sender units activates the 'fast speed'. I think as temporary measure I'll just swap the wires over before they get to the fan plug, so the fan comes on earlier rather than later. Not that its a major problem at this time of year anyway, but for the summer months I'd rather have it coming on sooner.
  6. Hey, Its been worrying me for a while that my fan only seems to have one speed, and it comes on at about 108 (ish) degrees on the gauge. I thought I'd test to see if the switch is faulty by the normal trick of bridging the wires. Took the plug off, bridged the wires, and the fast speed was working fine, the slow speed not working at all. Checked continuity at the fan plug, and all had continuity - so checked the female side of the fan plug and there was only two contacts! Which kind of explains why I only have a single speed fan  Anyway, does anyone know if this is standard on the 2.0 8V? Its obvious to me that it should have a 3 speed fan but I just wondered if anyone knew? Also, I don't suppose anyone has a working three speed fan they'd like to part with? :) Thanks Tom
  7. OK guys, thanks, always good to get other opinions. I will leave them as silver! It also seems pretty pointless ruining a brand new set of G60 steels too  Yes, the car was registered in March 1996, hence it being an 'N'. I guess it was sat around for a while before being registered, obviously not a factory order!

    Whats this?

It looks a bit like a throttle damper, basically designed to stop the butterfly snapping shut when you let go of the throttle quickly. However I'm not 100% sure!
  9. Hey, I've now taken the Castellet's off, as I want to refurb them over the winter. I managed to get hold of some G60 steels cheaply from eBay, they are brand new and I've now got them on the car: I know the arch gap is huge! One day I'll hit it with the stick but for the time being I want to enjoy decent ride quality and also not ground the car out on the way to work. Anyway, I was wondering, should I paint the steelies black? I'm trying to picture in my head what it would look like, and I think it would look good, but as I haven't got a clue when it comes to photoshop I can't really decide. I've got some sherry pearl paint, and I was thinking of going a bit OTT and putting a sherry pearl band around the outside of the rim as a sort of colour-code, been as though they're just my winter wheels. What do you guys think? Any help/advice would be appreciated. I know at the end of the day its my car and I can do what I like, but its always good to get other people's opinions :) Thanks Tom
  10. I've had that happen in Alvaston too :( I wasn't in the Corrado, I was driving my Mini through there on the way to Chellaston. A group of kids were on the side of the road, saw me coming and threw a handful of pebbles at the car. They legged it before I had chance to stop, luckily they didn't do any damage (all little rounded pebbles!), but it still made me sooooo p*ssed off, especially as I'd done a bare-shell rebuild and full repsray the year before. Really sorry to hear that its still happening, must be an Alvaston thing!
  11. I was actually there again yesterday. Ended up speaking to the owner, he's been trying to get it to start for 5 days! Its had an alarm/immobiliser fitted which has really buggered things up, he can't trace the wiring for it and therefore it won't start. It won't even crank as the immobiliser is on not only the fuel pump feed but also the feed to the starter solenoid. I told him its probably worth about £500 in that state, and he agreed, so I'm awaiting a phone call :)
  12. I thought all Corrado's had cable operated throttle's rather than drive-by-wire? If so, this device wouldn't be of any benefit!
  13. Nice, its good to see the breakdown services making an effort to repair what in their eyes would be an 'older' car rather than just recover it. Make sure that you've still got a decent concentration of antifreeze in your cooling system now though, or preferably flush and refill it with G12+....you don't want any cracks in the block when the cold weather comes!
  14. Yes I'm always surprised, the other cars in my car park are a Ford Focus Estate, a Citroen Xsara, a Mk5 Golf TSi and an Audi A6 Avant and literally all of them dwarf the Corrado! And mine isn't even lowered  I'm sure it will appreciate some flowers :)
  15. Lol, to be honest I don't think anyone would bat an eyelid! We've always got people in and out, delivering flowers etc. Its usually parked in the corner trying to look inconspicuous :)
  16. Looking really good! I actually had to go into where you work on friday and had a quick look at the C, it really is as good in the metal as it is in the pictures, proper spot on job!
  17. It is an early/late thing as Polo's are the same, the switch only illuminates when the rear fogs are on (second stage of a two stage switch), so there's visual way of telling if the front fogs are on! I was glad when I got a late-spec C and was able to tell :)
  18. Thanks, I really did get it wrong didn't I  Still, at least I know now, and if I can get hold of some 280mm calipers and carriers then I'll be able to compare them to my 256mm set-up and I'll know the differences then :)
  19. Ah right, so me describing them as 'G60 calipers' wasn't helping matters either  Thanks for that, always good to know what options there are available regarding brakes.
  20. Fantastic, that all makes sense now :D Thanks for the quick answer too, much appreciated!
  21. It was also this thread that prompted the question: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=73871 They are advertised as G60 calipers yet appear to be Lucas/Girling 54, so therefore the calipers are the same, or they aren't actually G60 calipers but instead are the 256mm type...
  22. Hi, I've searched and searched and read and read but still can't find the definitive answer to my question! All I want to know is whether the G60 shares the same calipers with the 8V/16V cars, as in the Lucas/Girling 54 type single-piston sliding caliper. Can anyone tell me? I know that the carriers are different to accomodate the larger 280mm discs, but it looks to me like the actual calipers themselves are the same...but I can't be sure! Thanks in advance for any help :D Tom
  23. Fixed them both now, took about 10 minutes to do each one so now I have an illuminated heated seat switch and also an illuminated heated rear screen switch so I can now see if its on without going and breathing on the inside of the rear window
  24. (for the TDi conversion keep reading down, you'll find it!) Hey, Thought I'd start a thread on my Corrado - a 1996 'N' 2.0 8V motor in Sherry Pearl. I got it a month ago in a straight swap deal for my (knackered) Audi A3 1.8 20V. I hated that car and had always wanted a C, looking at quite a few around the country until I found this one just 6 miles from my house :D It's quite highly specced for an 8V, I guess it must be one of the last off the production line being an 8V and also first registered on 01/03/96. Amongst all the normal Corrado stuff its got a full black leather interior with heated front seats and also 15x7" Castellet wheels, mirror polished, which were I believe an optional extra and are listed on the build sticker in the service book and the in the boot. Since buying it I've done a few things to it, mainly a good clean, fitting some headlamp protectors (from Chris aka shawshankkid) and making a list of the things that don't work/need attention. All I've got so far is that the heated switch doesn't illuminate and the heated rear screen switch doesn't light up when its switched on. Apart from that everything works! There's going to be some maintenance needed soon, I want to replace the front suspension bushes and maybe whip the subframe off for a coat of paint. I'm also going to sort the brakes out with new fluid and rebuild the calipers, but for the moment everything works so it's all good. Here's a pic, I'll get some more when I can and update this thread as an when - hope you like :) Tom
