  1. Just noticed if I display the lower temp with the ignition off and turn the engine over with the lower temp reading being displayed it will continue to read the lower temp, switch of and start the engine with out the oil temp being displayed and it jumps back 18-20c.

  2. Right just been out and had a steady 120c I have not had the car over 3k revs with a reasonable amount of traffic, just got on the duel carriage way and the oil shot Upton 144c pulled over and it instantly went down to 132c did the on off trick read 104c off and 124c when running, could an oil blockage relate hot spots?

Strange that I have changed the sensor and it has got worse, would an auto electrician be a good bet ?

  3. Hmmmmm that's roughly 10c difference, my mechanic has stated that there tends to be a 10c variance or tolerance with these sensors any way and that they are not 100% accurate, I will do some tests tomorrow as I have a day off and hopefully the rain holds off and the new sensor arrives.

  4. I will do a volt check on the alternator although I'm sure it was a 120 amp unit but I had put a larger pulley on it so would of thought it would not produce quite so much power, the display had burnt out wiring due to some dodgy electrical works but was fixed last year, I will have a look at that although I don't think I can get my hands on a spare display that easily.

  5. Was only £5, I have just found this from a 12 year old thread, still not quite sure what to make of it????

I'm a newun to this forum and VR's by the way!

If you mean that the reading is different when the engine isn't running, I'll give you a clue - the alternator stops charging when the engine stops, what do you think happens to the voltage across the battery terminals?

Another freebie : a high post count around here doesn't necessarily indicate an expert, especially with VR6s.

  6. Not really played with it as of yet, I can tell you driving it was like running on fumes and times it by 20, May order some brown pants just for Corrado driving.

I will have a play over the weekend and maybe change the sensor after cleaning the connectors, I remember someone else having a similar problem but unfortunately all my googling powers couldn't unearth anything.

If some one gets a chance could they test their Corrado go for a drive and see if the oil temp is the same with the engine running and then off?

  7. I have had concerns about my engine oil temp getting too high, today it nudged 120c so I pulled over and turned the engine off and checked the temp without the engine running and it read 20c lower, start the engine up and it would read 20c higher, I did notice temps below 80 read only 10c lower.

any ideas on the possible fault or correct temp and how I could find out the correct temp without the Mfa.

    Cheers Ben

  8. Are you getting fuel? I have just recently sorted mine which was not running although I was getting no clicks from the relay, I had a damaged pipe to the fuel regulator on the fuel rail and also found the regulator when wiggled the car would start.

  9. My fuel pump has stopped priming, the engine cranks but get no movement from the Rev needle, I have replace the relay twice, each time the car has stared and gone for a blast no problems when going back to the car for round 2 we have the same problem,.

I have checked the two used relays with a volt meter and don't get a reading but with a new one I do.

    Ideas any one

  10. Right then, seemed to have discovered the car wouldn't start due to faulty crank sensors which have now been replaced twice as a new one was faulty.

I have also had the head off again as there was a lot of oil being burnt and also I was getting poor fuel economy, on inspection it turns out the valve guides I had replaced were not replaced ( yes I be rather annoyed)and these had a lot of play in them meaning the valves were not seating properly as you could tell from the pitting an the poor job done on the lapping.

so at a guess the head was leaking oil and the valves were not closing properly so we weren't getting a decent burn,bi have the head back now and hopefully it will be back in on Sunday.

Oh and two months ago a drive shaft bearing case broke leaving me stranded, all fixed now but this car is testing me

  11. I was with Adrian flux for 6 years every year the renewal was higher, I would then every time go on confused find a better quote and they would match it, I think they just do this as it's easy money considering how many people I know that don't bother to get a better quote and just go with the renewal.

  12. Does any one know the emission values that these cars were meant to produce and what the figure is that vw are getting slapped for? Can't find anything on the Internet and I bet it still better than a lot of vehicles on the road!

What I find amazing is that the engine is made separately to the rest of the car and the engineers with the remit of making an eco vehicle pretty much decide lets go to the pub and lie!
