  1. More than enough to keep you busy then Sean . I had some help with mine when I did this job . I would never attempt this on my driveway again though, at least you have a garage. Great news about the sub frame coming out without any sheared bolts mate .

  2. I have mentioned about the deluxe underlay. You chaps may be ok with OEM carpet?, I can’t say for sure. I bought the new carpet which I think is thicker, or maybe it’s because it’s not 20 odd years old, but I couldn’t move my seats backwards or forwards with the deluxe underlay.

  3. Funny you should say that Hasan , someone one the CCGB fb page said about using a fog machine to find the leak . For me it has to be the grill gasket. There is no water on top of the ducting at all , I’ve run my hand along there and it’s dry . Surely if it’s dripping from the housing directly under the motor and by the floor vent it has to be inside the heater ducting and running along it ?.

  4. An old trick for finding water ingress is to shake talc or baby powder around the floor then look for tide marks after a storm / hosing down

    Been doing this Dox .

I’ve removed the fan cover today and replaced it again , just to be sure it was on right . I’ve soaked the screen 5 times with a hose . Finally 4 hours later it starts to drip through. It has to be the new gasket not sealing properly. The fan motor housing is dripping and so is the joining piece of the blower conduit near your feet in the passenger side .

  5. Great info , thanks Hasan .

I put my old carpet in the washing machine and it came out lovely.

The new carpet which I bought from Heritage is not only thicker (hence you cannot use the deluxe underlay)

The seats cannot move backwards or forwards), but also it’s all one piece which makes it difficult to fit .

  6. That horrible stuff will never dry out mate . That’s why I threw the oem stuff away and the new stuff that got wet . Even if you did dry it , it will smell . I did think about my matrix , but I would have thought that would go under pressure, not when the car is just sat on the drive. To me the water looks clean as well it’s not pink . If it is the screen they will be doing it for free and paying for damages too !.

  7. I haven’t tested the sunroof drain yet . But you can see where the water has been coming out of the hole under the pillar. So I don’t think it is blocked, it also drains down the wing as it should. I also think the headliner would be wet as the water would fill up and back up , up the pipe as it can’t escape like it should do .once I’ve removed all the bits so I can get my head up under the dash I’m hoping to see where it’s getting in . I just hope I don’t have to remove the dash as well in order to find it . It’s not the ball ache of doing it , it’s time . I’m self employed and tend to work Saturdays . I don’t want to leave the car in my mates garage and out stay my welcome if you know what I mean.

  8. Hi keyo , yes I have a cassette holder. They come up on eBay sometimes. Now I’ve removed some plastics I can see a wire hanging down , I think this is the illumination for it . They may have been a small optional extra at the time I’m not sure .I think I’m going to have to contact my mate who has a double garage which I’ve used before to get jobs done because of the weather. I can see me removing the heater motor and ducting so I can find out where the water is getting in . It’s no fun trying to fix stuff on my drive. I just can’t understand how you can pour water around the suspect areas and nothing comes in , a small amount of light rain and in it comes .

  9. Bugger, hope you get to the bottom of it Rob. If you remove all the carpet and sound deadening etc from the passenger side, dry it all out in there and blow some talc around to see if you can trace where it's coming in mate

It’s all out Sean , it was soaked. I can’t put picks up so I will describe it the best I can .If you follow from the heater motor along the blower ducting and then down to where the Bowden cables are that’s where it’s dripping. But I need to get my hand right up the back of it and see if it’s wet at the top of the ducting. I still don’t know where it’s coming from . The weather is so bad. I’ve put flour down and you can see where it’s hitting the floor pan but not where from .

  10. Be a shame to get rid of the soundproofing Rob especially after all the work.

Once you've sorted the leak, and if it is still feasible i would replace the cloaed cell with open cell foam of a good density. I think there's a bit of a myth floating around about ccf vs open cell for noise reduction.

Hi Hasan . I will take on board what you are saying about the cell foam . Unfortunately I can’t save the new sound proofing I installed, yes I started to dry it out but it stinks, I think even when dry it will still smell .

  11. Seems to be the way everyone is going Rob, me included. Can't bring myself to remove all the Storm bits, but I've got everything required to change it back should I ever want to. House is all good thanks mate. Just got to finish the garden off which is just some turf, a bit of fencing and a large wooden gazebo to house a hot tub and a bar, then it's complete! Well... apart from the kitchen but that's being done in about 2 1/2 years time.

Is it the rear plinth you're referring to?

Great news about the house Sean . Yeah it’s the rear plinth. I think I will get some new number plates at well . I checked on the car today and the water is coming in still . I poured so much water around the new gasket and nothing came in . And then plenty down the windscreen and still nothing. We had a small amount of rain and in it comes . Looks like of got some more investigating to do , which isn’t easy in this weather on a drive.

  12. It is a terrible design Sean . I’ve been buying a few new and old parts recently. My mrs has got me the number plate holder which is on sale here and I bought a set of door handles off of Bill on here . So I will be removing the colour coded parts and going back to OEM.I think I will be buying a Mk2 scuttle as well, that will cover the ECU , another terrible design. Hope all is well Sean and the house is nearly done .

  13. For the past few weeks I’ve been battling with a leak on the car . It’s sorn at the moment. I noticed condensation inside the car when going to work in the morning. At first I put it down to it not being used . I inspected the car after a few days and found the carpet on the passenger side was wet . My first thought was the heater blower cover as the dripping water was directly under the ducting for the blower that leads to the matrix and the air feed for your feet .At first I had to do a make shift repair with mastic to stop the water, that didn’t work . The new gasket quickly turned up from Heritage ,having replaced that now and water tested it all seems to be well. Having said that I’m waiting for the rain to start again to make sure it’s water right . I’ve had to Chuck the new closed cell I put in the car and the new sound deadening. At least the new carpet was ok . I’ve had a dehumidifier in the car for a couple of weeks now. I hope I’ve solved the problem.

  14. I don’t think the rear ashtray ever illuminated. My heated seats switch lights up fine . I have some plastics off at the moment due to a leak . I can now see the brown wire hanging down . I’m not sure if this is for the front ashtray or the cassette holder that should also illuminate.
